General :: Install Package To Convert One Unix Book Into Pdf?
Dec 15, 2010I wanted to install this package to convert one Unix book into pdf. Since I have not set up the internet in the debian, I download the .deb files in winxp and transfer these files to my pen drive and then access it in the Debian. So I got all the 'depends' packages for the chm2pdf from the Debian Packages site and tried to install. Console was still asking for more dependencies. If I have got all the 'depends' packages which are required for chm2pdf, then why does it give problems ?

So how do I do it? I have Mint on this particular computer, which is like having Medibuntu already I think.

Nov 21, 2010I installed ubuntu 10.10 using wubi installer, on win 7 64 bit system. how can I migrate from wubi install to standard install. I want to get rid of issues like free disk space and suspend/hibernate not supported in wubi ubuntu. Will LVPM help. I saw on the page it says that it does not supports wubi 10.04. Not sure what version I have, just installed the latest from ubuntu's site.

Oct 21, 2010Recently upgraded to Squeeze, and have a problem with Devede I haven`t seen before. When I try to convert three avi files to play on a standard dvd player, the finished ISO is still only 2,2 GB. It turns out only the first file gets included in the ISO, even though I can see Devede processing all files during conversion.

All such conversions doesnt produce any *.flac file. It seems flac doesnt accept minus sign for the standard input although flac manual allows to use it.
So my question is how I can use the standard input in order to decode audio data with flac?

Sep 28, 2009I have on my windows machine several hundred files that are a format of .nc .ncs for a CNC machine. I need to convert them to txt which is something as easy as opening in notepad and then saving as .txt but there are so many that this kind of action would take way too long.
The reason I am writing the linuxquestions is because I would feel more comfortable in loading a live CD and using some sort of terminal command to do this than I would to download one of the many "freeware" type programs I have found for windows (even more so since I have had a root kit before and had to start all the way over to get rid of it).
I need to know:
1. Is this possible to do with the terminal without super advanced knowledge.
2. Can one please point me in the right direction; something to read or an example

May 3, 2009I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.

Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.

Feb 14, 2010Anybody recently succeded in installing GRUB2 on Mac OSX partitions? I have to compile in un Fedora/Ubuntu/Gentoo. It work, but once back in OS X, I get this error:
./grub-mkimage -d . -o grub.efi part_gpt hfsplus fat ext2 etx3 ext4 normal sh chain boot configfile linux -bash: ./grub-mkimage: cannot execute binary file
I tried to build it in Ubuntu 8.04, gentoo and Fedora Rawhide, all fail with the same error. Look like the binary compatiility between OSX and Linux is broken in Leopard. I would love to have a faster boot, it take half a minute to get to grub, using Grub2 with EFI would take 3 seconds. As I don't need bios emulation, Fedora would also run faster. Anybody have a compiled and working Grub2? Is there a better way to use Grub2 with EFI? A working one if possible

May 27, 2011I was gathering some screenshots to use in a tutorial on how to do something in Unity. For the most part that went well... however I did find an unfortunate quirk.When I Right-Click any of the items in the Unity Launcher panel, and they bring up the submenu (for example I did the modification to add Pics, Docs etc to my Home Folder in the Launcher) I then cannot do a screenshot using my "PrtSc" key on my netbook. This only happens when the submenus are visible. Unfortunate because I wanted to get a screen shot of the submenus.

Jun 29, 2010Is it possible to view all of the entries in an LDAP Address book at one time (ie in the address book pane) of an email client? I've tried in both Thunderbird and Outlook 2003, and I get the same behavior - the mail client can auto-complete entries, but it can't seem to list the whole address book at once.
Is there a certain structure of the LDAP tree that will grant this support? Can it be done at all? It seems to me an 'address book' that can't be browsed as a whole isn't very effective...
I should add that I'm the one who set up the LDAP server - I'm just testing various capabilities of LDAP.

Nov 16, 2010I'm on OpenOffice 3.2 and have read the OpenOffice help doc concerned with this but it refers to the Windoze version.This should make no difference but it seems to, in my case anyway.In the Win version I can see the option to import the Thunderbird address book although I can't actually get it to do it! No such option appears in the Linux version.In fact I seem to be missing a stack of drivers such as SDBC/ODBC etc. Mine is a stock Ubuntu 10.04 install. I added the Openoffice database element but other than that it's all standard.
I'm struggling to believe there isn't a relatively simple way to import an e-mail client address book and print some sticky labels in Ubuntu.

Please check that the path /home/david/.evolution/addressbook/local/system exists and that permissions are set to access it.I have checked folders and permissions seem ok. Dec 25, 2010I suffered a permanent crash of WinXP. It won't boot and there's an incomprehensible error message.Anyway, I was able to recover almost all my data and move it over to Ubuntu 10.4 on the same computer. What I could not recover was my Outlook Address Book. I know it is funky to transfer it from one Windows email client to another, but transferring it across OS's seemed almost impossible, especially since I don't have Outlook's Export feature available. Even Google and other webmails needed to have those Outlook address files converted before they could use them.
What would be the plan of least resistance here for a Total Noob? Can I, should I, and how do I transfer the address book to a different computer with Outlook for export before transferring it back on the Linux side?
Ubuntu :: 1.5TB NTFS WD Book Now Shows Up As 2TB Unallocated?
Jan 17, 2011So, I have a 1.5 TB WD My Book that has been working fine since I got it. It has a 250GB WFBS partition and the remaining is NTFS. Worked in Windows, Ubuntu and Mac OS X as well as on my Wii.Now, none of my systems recognize it. Tried on two computers under Ubuntu and Windows. Tried on a third with Mac OS X. On one of the first two, tried Mac OS X via VirtualBox. My Wii will not recognize the WBFS either. Gparted will not recognize it (whether from a Live CD or full install). Disk Utility in the Mac sees it, but as a 2TB unallocated drive. The same for Disk Management in Windows 7. I need some of the stuff on there, plus I want my 1.5TB back forall other purposes. That was Ubuntu 10.10, OS X 10.6.6, Windows 7 and Wii 4.3U. [edit]So, marked as "Solved" but that is not exactly true. Ultimately, the drive was found to be a bust and I have Western Digital sending me a new one

I have no idea what the WiFi Cards manufacturer is. I have tried all I know to get it up and running but it is not working. It took me most of the day to get the Ubuntu OS put on it and I want to finish this up.
