Ubuntu Multimedia :: Convert To Standard Quality In Handbrake?

Jan 8, 2010

I downloaded an HD video from ....., but my computer is not powerful enough to play it. Is it possible to convert it to standard quality in Handbrake? If not, what video converter would be best?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Handbrake - Convert One AVI But Not Another AVI?

Feb 26, 2011

I have a few live concerts in AVI format I wanted to convert to mp4 since that is the only video format the Google CR-48 currently sort-of supports. I can successfully convert a series of AVI TV shows, including a Pink Floyd concert in AVI. But if I turn around and try to convert a Pearl Jam convert in AVI format, it instantly says RIP DONE! with a 1.5kb file from the convert in the destination folder.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Convert MP3 To Standard Audio Format?

I see lots of threads on converting your CDs to MP3s, but I want to do the opposite. I want to burn MP3s into CDs that will play on older CD players that dont have MP3 support.

So how do I do it? I have Mint on this particular computer, which is like having Medibuntu already I think.

Software :: ImageMagick's Convert Utility And High Quality Output?

Jun 22, 2011

I am trying to split a PDF into component pages that are of equal quality to the original. If I use display mypdf.pdf, then the PDF is split into pages of acceptable quality. The problem here is that I have to save each page individually. If, however, I use convert mypdf.pdf mypdf.bmp, I get the individual pages of the PDF in .BMP format (which is fine, but not exactly what I want), but the quality is substantially less than the original. I've tried dozens of combinations of commands to try to increase this quality, but to no avail.

Even if I do convert mypdf.pdf mypdfagain.pdf, there is a big loss of quality. Anyone familiar with splitting a PDF into individual pages without suffering a loss in quality?
Ideally, I would just save all the "scenes/frames" from display, but that feature unfortunately does not exist (though I may endeavor myself to add it if no formal solution exists).

NOTE: I think part of my problem might be: by using identify mypdf.pdf I can see that the resolution is specified, and when I convert it the resolution is much lower. This could be a source of quality loss, but I'm not familiar enough with image conversion to say that for sure. Whatever this command does, it removes the extra layer or whatever it is that prevents OCR from succeeding. I'd really like to understand that technology.. What is it about a PDF that allows an individual to embed some meta-data into every page of the PDF so that the only thing seen, say, through OCR, or a text search function, is the embedded text?

Ubuntu :: Can't Convert Standard 9.10 Desktop Into Netbook Remix?

Feb 17, 2010

I have been trying to convert my standard 9.10 desktop installation into the Netbook Remix version.I assumed that all I had to do was add Netbook Remix Launcher from synaptic and set it run at startupAccording to the Wiki these are the packages that constitute the UNR:Desktop Switcher - Allows the user to switch between two desktop modes. Currently supports switching between Ubuntu Netbook Remix mode and "Classic Ubuntu" (two panels, gnome-like) mode.

Go Home Applet - A gnome-panel applet that, when clicked upon, displays the desktop. Used in a netbook-based desktop, the desktop-window will normally be the launcher. Go Home Applet also works in conjunction with the netbook-remix-launcher whereby dragging and dropping a file/url/application to the go-home-applet will automatically add it to the launcher's favorites section. Human Netbook Theme - A gtk theme for use with Ubuntu Netbook Remix Maximus - A desktop daemon which will automatically maximise and, optionally, un-decorate windows. Has support for exclusion lists and will work with any EWMH-spec compliant window-manager.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix Launcher - An easy-to-useprogram/places/favourites launcher which resides on the desktop, replacing the main-menu. indow Picker Applet - A gnome-panel applet that displays open windows as icons on the panel, and has integrated window title-bar functionality. Optimised for use on netbook-size screensNone of them seem like dependencies for the Ubuntu Netbook Remix Launcher itself, so I cant understand why it isnt working. Ive turned of compiz and disabled AWN.

Software :: Cant Convert Audio Files Using Flac With Standard Input?

Jun 28, 2011

I cant convert audio files using flac with standard input. I tried the commands such as:

Code:
mpg321 -b 10000 -s -r 44100 -w - file.mp3 | flac - -o file.flac
or:
Code:
ogg123 -d wav -f - file.ogg | flac - -o file.flac

[Code]....

All such conversions doesnt produce any *.flac file. It seems flac doesnt accept minus sign for the standard input although flac manual allows to use it.

So my question is how I can use the standard input in order to decode audio data with flac?

General :: Convert A Large Number Of File Types From None Standard To Text?

Sep 28, 2009

I have on my windows machine several hundred files that are a format of .nc .ncs for a CNC machine. I need to convert them to txt which is something as easy as opening in notepad and then saving as .txt but there are so many that this kind of action would take way too long.

The reason I am writing the linuxquestions is because I would feel more comfortable in loading a live CD and using some sort of terminal command to do this than I would to download one of the many "freeware" type programs I have found for windows (even more so since I have had a root kit before and had to start all the way over to get rid of it).

I need to know:

1. Is this possible to do with the terminal without super advanced knowledge.

2. Can one please point me in the right direction; something to read or an example

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Handbrake - How To Rip Whole DVD

Aug 8, 2011

How do I go about ripping the whole DVD? All Handbrake does is rip the first episode? Google gives instructions for Apple and Windows and they don't cover doing it in Linux. They make it sound like it's automatic. I hasn't been for me so far. Well at least until this DVD issue that follows. Since installing Handbrake and routine openSUSE 11.3 64 updates my DVDs are not mounted and the notifier doesn't pop up. Navigating to /media shows no DVD mounted. I realize this could be a hardware failing issue but the DVD spins up and flashes like it's scanning the DVD. A reboot to reset everything didn't solve this issue. If I stick a USB thumb drive in it's mounted and the notifier pops up.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Get The Best Performance/quality On 10.04 Box

Jul 24, 2010

I'm trying to get the best performance/quality on my my 10.04 box and i have a few questions regarding 'sync to vblank'. My first question : I see 'sync to vblank' in 3 different locations.

- In compiz display settings
- In NVidia XVideo settings
- In NVidia OpenGLX settings
What is the difference between the 3 ?

Second question : I used to have problems watching movies where the picture seemed to be cut in half ( i'm not a native english speaker so i don't know the technical term). After reading some forums, i enabled sync to vblank everywhere i saw it. That solved the movie problem. But maybe that was overkill ?

So i did some benchmarking and noticed the following :

When i disable 'sync to vblank' in compiz my compiz benchmark drops from 60 to 30. But then my movies look worse. When i disable 'sync to vblank' in NVidia OpenGlx my GlxGears framerate jumps from 300 to 36000.I didn't notice anything when changing vsync in the NVidia XVideo setting. System specs below.

Ubuntu 10.04 64b
Nvidia GT 230 1536MB
NVIDIA Driver Version : 195.36.24
