One is Ext4 for Karmic, one is NTFS for WinXP, and the other two are Ext4 where I keep all my stuff.When I boot into Karmic and open Nautilus, none of the last three are auto mounted. When I click on one of them, instead of a window popping out asking me for a sudo password, I get a message as shown below.f I try to mount via sudo in terminal it works, but the files for me are then all read-only. Again, if I open Nautilus as root, all works fine.What I want is the following:- for all 3 partitions to automount on startup;- for all 3 partitions to be owned by me and not by root.I tried editing /etc/fstab, but to no avail. Neither did running "chown" help.

May 11, 2010I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 64bit (Kernel 2.6.32-22-generic) and sometimes my /home partition is remounting in read-only and i have no idea why. Normally I only use programms like Firefox, Rhythmbox, Evolution and Netbeans 6.8. Should I switch to the EXT3 filesystem?

Jul 11, 2010I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux Mint 9 with an ext4 (sda3) data partition to be shared between both. My issue is when I go to that partition and mount it within Nautilus it mounts read only. I've searched around but I have not found the solution. I don't have a problem mounting it using fstab and mounting at boot. But, I know I have to be doing something wrong for it not to work correctly through Nautilus.

I partitioned the drive like this. Ubuntu sda1 primary partition ext4 25gb, Mint sda2 primary partition ext4 25gb and Data primary partition 56gb. I then installed Ubuntu 10.04 first, then Mint. Both Ubuntu and Mint mount that partition as read only.

I'm wondering if its possible to install Virtual Box on both OS but pointing only to 1 virtual machine.
Also if its possible to permanently mount the shared partition on both OS.

I'm trying to mount an ext4 20GB partition of my hard drive so that i can use it to store data, i want it to appear on my desktop as well as on places, as far as i know this is achieved by mounting the partition in /media. At my first attempt i used the following commands. (i named the partition ondskapt)

Jun 17, 2011I'm trying to set up my Fedora 15 installation to automatically mount (with all privileges needed for read/write access w/o a password prompt) an ext4 partition on the same HDD. Below is the output of sudo fdisk -l.

Partition table entries are not in disk order I'm trying to automount /dev/sda8, I believe. I'll check that when I've rebooted to by Ubuntu partition, 'cause that's where I know how to do it. I tried to use pysdm, since that's what I used to do the same thing in Ubuntu, but it wasn't found by the Fedora package manager.

Jul 24, 2010I have been trying to install windows for 15 days and I was finally able to do it by removing in "disk utility" the sign saying that the fedora partition is bootable... but I did it when the partition was active... It showed me a message error but i thought that it told me it wasn't abvle to do it... and now that windows is installed I cannot any more access the partition either in rescue mode and on a live cd ... what could I do to access the partition either to save all the files or to (it woiuld be the best) reinstall the grub ?

I need to mount it and read it, but mount command seems to doesn't recognize 88 type. Maybe something could be done with LVM? But I had never play with LVM. To be true I suspect that originally this was handled by some virtual partition or LVM.

General :: Mount - Disable Read And Write File Cache On Partition?
Feb 8, 2011How do i disable the linux file cache on a xfs partition (both read an write).
We have a xfs partition over a hardware RAID that stores our RAW HD Video. Most of the shoots are 50-300gb each so the linux cache has a hit-rate of 0.001%.
I have tryed the sync option but it still fills up the cache when copinging the files. ( about 30x over per shoot :P )
/etc/fstab:
/dev/sdb1 /video xfs sync,noatime,nodiratime,logbufs=8 0 1
Im running debian lenny if it helps.

Jul 18, 2011I just installed ubuntu via the windows executable and I couldn't mount my NTFS partition. I found this a little odd and I checked fdisk and it seems to think I don't have an ext4 partition as my entire internal HD is displayed as NTFS.
Here's the fdisk output:
When i try to mount the NTFS partition /dev/sda2 i get the following output:
I can't make heads or tails out of this. Anyone know what's going on here?
Windows recognizes that 30GB were taken from the NTFS partition for my linux install. It reads the max partition size as 465GB. fstab reports the NTFS partition size as 488GB.

And 50gb set aside for ubuntu, in a separate partition.To do this I need to partition the 50gb partition as ext4? then add a swap file of how big? Do i even need a swap space if I have 4gb of physical RAM?

In GParted the partition with the 10.04 system on it, /dev/sda1, has a red circle with an exclamation mark in it and I cannot resize it. When I doubleclick on /dev/sda1 there is the following warning
