Almost every time when I'm typing, I come across this weird thing where something random happens. It can range from the object in the clipboard suddenly pastes itself, a random thing from the page I'm on, or from another tab places itself in the textbox like I pasted it and can even go as far as to close tabs, or windows. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on an eee pc 1001p.

I'd like to have a Linux machine run what Windows users typically call a clipboard as a network service on my small LAN (about 10 machines). More specifically I am looking to have Linux run the clipboard service centrally in the LAN with both Windows and *nix machines able to connect to it as opposed to the peer-to-peer sync model that I am seeing in almost all of the applications I've discovered thus far.

Sometimes instead of this it get stuck on a letter/number (for example, it starts writing "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" non stop) and it stays that way until i reboot my computer. Even the leds (num lock, caps lock, scroll lock) stop responding. Yes, i have tried to unplug and plug in the keyboard but nothing really happens.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have recently noticed that my keyboard shortcuts stopped working.Things like F2 to rename files/folders, I think its ALT+F1 to bring up applications menu, however it comes up with a dialog saying Power Information. I also can not use backspace in FF to go back a page and things like that, which I find very annoying because I prefer to navigate with the keyboard and that deal.Yes I have Compiz installed however I have for a few months now without this problem which appeared only within the last fw days. I have had k at the keyboard shortcuts in Compiz and set them to default but nothing changed
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy keyboard has suddenly stopped working in Gnome (Ubuntu 10.4 LTS, Toshiba satellite laptop, P300). It works fine to logon, and with KDE.
The last thing I did before it stopped working was to hold down a shift key for too long, while I was thinking about what I wanted to do. The 'sticky keys' prompt popped up, which I killed. After that the keyboard has died - in *all* applications (e.g. gedit, terminal etc.)
The mouse still works. If I logout of Gnome, it comes alive again to type in the logon password. I had a look in messages, but without any enlightenment.
All of a sudden, My keyboards stopped working. It works for the login to enter password, but afterwards not.
Reboot and logout/login does not work.
A beep comes after pressing a key afterwards. I was only able to post this via links browser.
Using Gnome and openSUSE 11.2 . Ok. I changed few keyboards to see if that is a hardware problem . Obviously its not. Whatever keyboard layout I choose .. same story repeats : USA , SRB, GER... I tried to change "key to chooose 3rd level option" in keyboard preferences: right alt, right win , left alt , left win ... but nothing works .
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen an msn contact pastes a multiple line piece of text(couple of lines or more) into their client and sends it, the message fails to display in my empathy chat window. If the window is not focused there is a notification for the message, consisting of '...' in the notification bubble, but no text appears in the window. The same thing happens(or rather doesn't happen) if the window is focused but without the notification.
However, if I look in the chat history for that conversation the pasted text shows up where it should. I noticed this 'problem' in Empathy in karmic previously, so I'm not sure whether it is a bug or a feature, which is why I ask here rather than making a bug report. Using Lucid updated earlier today. This doesn't happen in pidgin, and it's quite annoying, but I would like to keep using empathy.
I have noticed since installing ubuntu 10.10 a few weeks back, that pasting into terminals no longer works as expected. In earlier releases, shift+ctrl+v would paste the contents of the clipboard to the terminal. However, now shift+ctrl+v no longer does this. According to the keyboard shortcuts window, shift+ctrl+v is the shortcut for pasting. How can I find out if another program is using this keybinding and thus preventing me from pasting in a terminal? I've looked in System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts but there's nothing relevant in there. Is there a program that I can run to see how the system responds to me pressing shift+ctrl+v? Is there anything else that I can try to fix this problem. I've grown used to pressing shift+ctrl+v to paste now, and having to remember to press shift+Ins does slow me down

Where "surface" could be several different types, which will be set during execution. Hope this is clear enough. I have tried using templates but am getting "data member cannot be a member template". Either I have incorrect syntax, or am not implementing it right. another solution would have one class containing definitions of all possible shapes, But this would take up extra memory. Other solutions I thought of seem too round-about, and seems there is a simpler solution that I have overlooked.

I want to build a bash script, which can ping a range IP adresses which will be filled in by the admin. If there is no IP-adress filled in, then the script must ping the subnet where the system is logged on. So if my ip is 192.168.1.6, then the script must ping from 192.168.1.1 till 192.168.1.255 Or else, if there is given a beginning and ending ip it must ping that!
The first part of the bash script is to ping a given range (see below). But there is one problem, how can I tell the script to ping from $begin till $end, [..] is of course wrong! But what must be filled in there???

I'm NOT asking about clipboard managers like Glipper, Parcellite, GNOME itself should let configure clipboard behaviour: package "gnome-settings-daemon" includes "Clipboard management" - this is installed and running by default.[URL].. But - where I can make settings of clipboard ?
I have thing, in "gnome-control-center" - there are many applets, corresponding to gnome-settings-daemon plugins. But I can't find no clipboard setting. Where is it ? I remember, in past (maybe it was in KDE desktop (?)) I could set, if my X selections should be added to "ctrl-c" list and vice versa or not. This is what I need.
But once again - I do not ask about installing Clipboard managers. I'm asking - where is standard GNOME clipboard setting in Lucid.

Just installed 10.10 32-bit on a Lenovo T61p laptop, and used Remote Desktop Viewer (version 2.3.2) to VNC into another system. I can copy from an application on 10.10 and then paste into a window in the VNC connection (e.g. to xterm or emacs), but I cannot do the reverse. When I try to paste, I get garbage displayed. For example, I selected "ls -l" from an xterm, which should have copied to the clipboard. When I paste this into an e-mail message, I get junk.
Here is what Emacs in hexl-mode says about that text:

It shows as "xR1" some whitespace and then a tiny graphical box symbol with 00 and 05 in it. I'll try to paste it on the next line: Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround? Another app I can use?

This same VNC connection works fine, when I use 10.04.
I make use of the clipboard manager a lot, and have just replaced Clipman with ClipIt on my Debian 8 (Xfce) host. I also have a Debian 8 (and 7) VM with Xfce, but without xfce4-panel, so no taskbar. Is there a way to make use of a clipboard manager with no panel/taskbar? I have ClipIt installed on the 8 VM, but do not have obvious access to it. It's the last hurdle to eliminating the taskbar/panel for me...... meaning eliminating the taskbar, yet keeping all the functionality.
I started using Xfce without xfce4-panel, when I decided that Openbox was a little too spartan for me...... at least without spending a lot of time to customize it, which I probably will do eventually, but for now, I am staying with Xfce.
I want to use system clipboard of vim in the termal of X mode, not text mode. But when I type reg command in vim, I haven't seen the system clipboard, And I can't copy the content of vim to other applications, such as firefox. I have a fully patched newly installed F15 x86_64 installation, with gnome-rdp used to run rdesktop to various Windows servers I manage. (rdesktop-1.6.0-11.fc15.x86_64) On F14, and most other Fedora's if I copied something on the Linux clipboard, I could paste it to the Windows server I was remote desktopped onto, and vice versa. However, on this installation this has ceased. The clipboard is no longer shared.
On a whim, I tested and found that when run from the command line as rdesktop -g 1024x768 hostname that the clipboard works. Thus the fault is with GNOME-RDP. gnome-rdp-0.2.3-8.fc15.x86_64
Seems a utility called "xclip" and "xsel" are required, but is there anything simpler, that doesn't require extra utilities, along the lines ofCode:cat foo.txt > clipboardThis would for GNOME.

In windows using remote desktop connection you can press Ctrl+Alt+minus to copy the current window on the remote desktop to the clipboard. How do you do that in Ubuntu's terminal server client? I have not found any key combination that works
