My PS2 keyboard randomly stops working. Sometimes instead of this it get stuck on a letter/number (for example, it starts writing "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" non stop) and it stays that way until i reboot my computer. Even the leds (num lock, caps lock, scroll lock) stop responding. Yes, i have tried to unplug and plug in the keyboard but nothing really happens.

In most cases, after that, I'm loosing the internet connection. I can't open any website, can't ping the router (which is my default gateway) and now it happened even without any error, which really pissed me off. Logging out and back in doesn't help, I need to make a full reboot to get back my internet connection.
Under Windows 7 everything is working fine and I'm not having any trouble with the internet connectivity! I had Fedora 11 32-bit before and it was also working normally!
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP dc5100MT workstation. Sound works nearly all the time, but once in a while, the sound stops and I have no idea why. The channel is not muted, the volume is 100%, and not even rebooting fixes it. It will just start working on its own.Under the Sound Preferences panel, the output volume is 100%. The channel is not muted. I can get sound out of the internal speaker by changing the connector to "Analog Output (LFE) / No Amplifier", but not out of the "Analog Output / Amplifier" which is the green sound cable plugged into the sound card.I only use this machine as a video player using VLCNothing else.I would like to know some tricks to isolate and troubleshoot this when it happens.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy organization has been using PASV FTP via VSFTPD for some time now. We have defined the port range between 30000 and 33333 and as I mentioned, it has worked up to 20100108 (last Friday). It appears that VSFTPD is not negotiating the defined PASV port range, which we can see with both netstat and tcpdump. Has anyone here run into this before? Are there any VSFTPD hackers out there who know what mechanism VSFTPD is using to re-allocate the ports? I would think that it would release the port, and flag it as unused, or something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently noticed that my keyboard shortcuts stopped working.Things like F2 to rename files/folders, I think its ALT+F1 to bring up applications menu, however it comes up with a dialog saying Power Information. I also can not use backspace in FF to go back a page and things like that, which I find very annoying because I prefer to navigate with the keyboard and that deal.Yes I have Compiz installed however I have for a few months now without this problem which appeared only within the last fw days. I have had k at the keyboard shortcuts in Compiz and set them to default but nothing changed

The mouse is still fine. When I shut down, I would sometime notice that the "stop crash report generation" process fails. Then the shutdown sequence stops at some point, and I am forced to do a hard shutdown, power down for a while, and reboot. If I don't wait after power off, the keyboard freeze would occur again at any time during the start up sequence. I even had a keyboard freeze after manually switching to the Windows boot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 10.04 since several months and I randomly have problems with the keyboard (PS2). Maybe 2-4 times per week the keyboard stops working all in a sudden. The symptoms related to this can be- the keyboard simply does not react any more to key press- during typing the keyboard gets crazy and fills the lines with the last typed character- opened windows move to the left when touching them at the top bar, keyboard does not react any more. When clicking on a panel menu the focus line is running permanently quickly through all items, and it's practically impossible to click on any of those (so even shutdown is difficult to achieve, and I might need to use a hard reset).
In nearly all cases the problem only disappears after reboot, just very rarely a logout is sufficient to get the keyboard working again. I googled for similar problems and found quite some people having problems with keyboard (and/or mouse) not working correctly under Ubuntu, but I have not stumbled over a similar error description as I have.Just some config parameters on my box: amd64, XOrg uses an Nvidia driver, 3D and Compiz are activated
Sometimes Ubuntu 10.04 will get into a state where the system stops booting when it apparently attempts to initialize the USB keyboard (keyboard goes dead and never lights up again)(Saitek Eclipse II keyboard).
It either works, or doesn't work consistently regardless of reboot. I don't know what makes it stop working. (Or start working) Recovery mode doesn't work either. Or the saved -21 kernal.
I have an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 and have the -30 generic kernal.
I can dual-boot into WinXP just fine.
My keyboard has suddenly stopped working in Gnome (Ubuntu 10.4 LTS, Toshiba satellite laptop, P300). It works fine to logon, and with KDE.
The last thing I did before it stopped working was to hold down a shift key for too long, while I was thinking about what I wanted to do. The 'sticky keys' prompt popped up, which I killed. After that the keyboard has died - in *all* applications (e.g. gedit, terminal etc.)
The mouse still works. If I logout of Gnome, it comes alive again to type in the logon password. I had a look in messages, but without any enlightenment.
Using Gnome and openSUSE 11.2 . Ok. I changed few keyboards to see if that is a hardware problem . Obviously its not. Whatever keyboard layout I choose .. same story repeats : USA , SRB, GER... I tried to change "key to chooose 3rd level option" in keyboard preferences: right alt, right win , left alt , left win ... but nothing works .
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old dell server that I decided to try to install ubuntu server on. My problem is that my keyboard stops working after making my initial selection of installer language and install option. As soon as I select install, I receive a message stating that IRQ 14 has been disabled. Next, I am faced with a screen asking me to select my installation language using the tab, space, and enter keys. But to no avail, my keyboard no longer works. No arrows, no tab, no space, no enter, he num lock key will not toggle it's respective LED.
I should note that I'm using a PS/2 mouse (there are no USB ports on this server). I've also tried multiple PS/2 keyboards, and all act the same. I've looked in my BIOS settings, and the only option I see is for enabling/disabling the on-board PS/2 keyboard. I have not tried disabling that, because I have a funny feeling I would lock myself out of the server for good. I also tried non-graphical mode (at least I think that's what I did). I held in the shift key while booting the CD, and selected no to using graphics. At the "boot:" prompt, I just hit enter.

I recently compiled a new kernel (2.6.38.8) but it seems I forgot something. Right after grub, when the new kernel is selected (by using the keyboard), the keyboard stops working (it's on usb). When I select the old kernel everything is working nicely.
I actually used the config of the old kernel to configure the new one but excluded some modules before I finally compiled it. Now I'm asking myself which modul did I erroneously throw out?
Edit: A somewhat related question: Is there a log somewhere in the kernel source folder (or someplace else) which shows the kernel compilation process?
I tested these problems on both Linux Mint 9 and Gentoo Linux. Periodically (err... randomly) when using opera 9.80 and doing things like watching videos or testing java applets, the keyboard will stop functioning. This requires a complete reboot of the PC to get back the keyboard functionality. I guess windows isn't the only one that requires frequent reboots. :-/ 95% of the time it just doesn't work and the other 5% of the time it only.. sorta works. The buttons never work. Thats a different problem though as I have Minitube that kinda fixes the ..... problem. That is all I use flash for anyways.
I know the java applet I am testing works perfectly using appletviewer and in every windows browser I tested (IE, Opera, and Firefox) but when using Opera on Linux there is no keyboard input. The java applet crashes firefox so that is out of the question. I would open the Java console to see if there was any errors but that crashes the browser. I didn't have any problems with Java before Oracle owned it. Could be just a coincidence?
I am working on a Dell Inspiron 9400 with 9.10 installed and (thus far) working quite well. However, when I type in a command into Terminal (I was trying to install Amarok), the terminal asks for my password and the entire keyboard stops working. As in, I can hit any numerical or letter key, and nothing happens in the terminal but the blinking cursor. The specific command was "sudo apt-get install amarok", and then it asks for my password, and I'm not able to make an entry.
I've tried changing to a couple of the different Dell laptop keyboards in System>Preferences, but again, before typing the command into the terminal, everything is working fine (inside AND outside of the terminal). After the password prompt comes up and the keyboard stops working in terminal, all the character keys still work fine still outside of the terminal.
I have 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-22) and have noticed that whenever i have Rhythmbox running; the keyboard stops working in any apps. As soon as I close Rhythmbox, they work again!

I took #usb-devices and they were there also..
But #usbhid-dump did not generate anything to screen.
I'm installing slack 13.0 in a Dell 2350 for a friend. once installed, it works ok for a while then within some somewhat random period of time, just plain locks up. the keyboard stops working, the mouse cursor still moves, but there is no response from mouse clicks. i was ssh'ed into the machine one of these times to see if i could read the logs during a lockup. the machine stopped responding to the ssh session as well (actually i had an instance of mc running at the time, and the machine still responded to it. when i exited mc, i was stuck in console never-never land). the logs show absolutely nothing. /etc/messages keeps showing MARK long after the lockup. all other logs are not updated since boot. this machine has an i810 chipset, is there a driver issue here?

Firefox randomly throws up errors like "Problem loading page" whenever I click on a hyperlink. When I click on Reload, the page loads up just fine. This has been happening a lot recently..and I do not remember updating anything consciously. By the way, ipv6 is disabled in Firefox.2. The network stops working all of a sudden (usually indicated by the Firefox error). The Autho Eth0 indication is active, but I am unable to connect to any external machine.
3. Needless to say, this error is manifesting itself in apt-get as well. I get "something wicked happened" errors all the time, and am unable to download or install anything.That this is not a problem with the ISP is obvious because I also have Windows (from which I'm typing this, ironically), which is able to access the internet.Is this a bug in Ubuntu 10.10?

(Ubuntu LTS 10.4) I have multiple mail accounts on Thunderbird (TB). All worked fine with no issues whatsoever. A few months ago it suddenly started giving me this alert message related to my yahoo.fr pop3 account

Obviously I checked if these settings were somehow changed. They weren't. It should leave messages on the server indeed, but I don't use no max message size or fetch headers only options. The original settings are what they used to be and how they have always worked.
The thing is: everything works normal if I start up TB. It downloads the messages, puts them in the folders where I want them to come etc... The problem seems to appear after a while (mostly a few hours, or overnight). It just stops downloading the messages from my yahoo.fr account. When I click the Get Mail for my yahoo account the above alert message pops up.
There is only one solution really. Close TB and restart it after which all works fine again.
It might be that the problem is related to another issue reported as bug # 689453 in launchpad that started around the same time (a few months ago). That bug forces me to have to end the process through the System Monitor where Thunderbird-bin uses almost 100% of the CPU and doesn't shut down.
Obviously it doesn't avoid me from using TB, but it starts to work on my nerves to have to close down TB (sometimes through the End Process in system monitor) and then restart it so frequently.

The one thing i don't understand about these numbers is where it goes all that used memory. i only listed the top 40 tasks out of 200 in order of physical ram used, can it be that even if it "sees" 5gb it cannot use it all, just like say windows7 and usable memory? (I recently troubleshooted that one, where out of 12gb w7 reported 8gb usable, I solved that by reverting the cpu overclocking.)
I've installed the x86_64 edition of fedora 15 using the kde desktop.There's a peculiar problem that iḿ now facing.
