Ubuntu :: "invalid Or Corrupt Kernel Image" PXE 10.10?
Dec 29, 2010
I have a PXE boot setup. It is confirmed working as I can successfully boot other kernels (full SUSE10 distro).However, when I dump the Ubuntu 10.10 kernel onto the PXE server, the client always reports the same error:"invalid or corrupt kernel image"This is with the basic "vmlinuz-2.6.35-24-generic-pae" file.1) I've installed Ubuntu DIRECTLY on the system I was trying to boot from and it works fine (that's where I got the kernel from).2) The file is NOT CORRUPT as I did an md5sum on the PXE server and the client and they have the same hash.3) All files in the base /tftpboot directory with the same ownership/permissions.<Original that works>

Using NetBootin, I am able to store iso(Open Suse 11.2) image into PenDrive. When I am trying to install from Pen drive, am getting below error message above boot prompt after selecting default option from Unetbootin Screen:
Invalid or corrupt image
Boot:
Actually during booting (after I selecting Install from USB), am Getting NetBootin blue screen in which there are options like "Default", "Linux", "Rescue" and "Memory Check". I tried with linux option and observed screens like select Language and so on. But I didn't tried it fully because am having my own "autoyast" configuration file in xml.
I would like to install suse 11.2 iso as per my config as below:
Boot: linux autoyat=usb///config.xml
Please let me know how to overcome from "Invalid or corrupt image" error

I finished downloading of "openSUSE-11.1-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso" file. I downloaded it by Opera WB. Then using Nero I burned this file to CD. But there is a problem with boot. Please, make a support to this problem. Maybe file, which is in a site opensuse.org is damaged?
After the reboot of computer this text appears:

I've just purchased HP Mini 5103 with preinstaled SLED, but I want to replace with 11.3. But I have serious problem with booting from USB. Due to problem with BIOS bug/feature, 5103 is unabled to boot using USB with recursive partition (which is created from hybrid openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso either with ImageWriter of dd). When I create bootable USB with syslinux and copying of iso to existing partition, I ended with error "failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drive" (I have tried also both initrdud files, older one failed with "failed to detect USB", newer with "failed to detect CD"). I have also tried to install from full openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso which I have copied to USB using Unetbootin, but with this bootable USB I ended with "invalid or corrupt kernel image".

After upgrading Opera browser, by old shortcut for it became invalid. The new was added but the old one stayed and is invalid. I can not remove it through normal means as it doesn't appear in the menu editing window but it's there in the menu.
Is there any way to manually remove items from the menu? Or to rebuild the entire menu?

I was doing some downloads of ISO's to burn & try on another machine. I went to use FF & it wouldn't open. I thought what the heck, I just use it. So in the process of checking I ran it in a terminal & got this error:
Code:
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0.14/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 2740 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
Plus my lvm's were giving me fits so I ran "touch /forcefsck" & it found a bunch of crossed files. In the process of "fixing" I believe that my backup images may have been in that crossed mess as all the 1 of 2 files are "zeroK" files now. I think I have the lvm fixed (for now, as that piece of junk acts up every whipstitch) so how do I get my FF working again?
I tried a "reinstall" with no luck. I found out I have a bigger problem as well. It seems that the "zeroK" file thing got my backups I need to restore my machine to do my homework under my XP & such. Is there a way to recover these files (that I don't know of) or am I screwed like I think? - needless to say, if I have to rebuilt the F10, there won't be any of that LVM junk!

I am a Windows 7 user. I have two machines a laptop & a new bench top. Both machines run & boot Windows 7 very well. I use a very good program to clone my Hard Drive to an external USB drive. called Macrium Reflect. It is free and is a dream to use & very fast. This program creates a Linux based boot disk, which will allow you to find a backup clone file on an external drive to restore your hard drive. It works a treat on my laptop & has saved my bacon many times when I have messed things up fiddling with the registry etc.
The problem I am having is that my new desktop will not boot from the start up CD & returns the error kernel panic,not syncing cpu context corrupt. & then just tries to reboot again. I don't know what this problem relates to whether it is the computer hardware or the Linux CD or both. My laptop with the same OS does not have a problem, It is an Acer Aspire 5920G with 1.6ghz Intel dual core processor & 2gig Ram. The bench top has an Intel Dual core 3.3ghz processor, Zotac mother board & 4gig of Ram. both machines are running 32 bit OS.
I have browsed through the posts on this forum with people having the same error at boot, but as I am not using Linux & only using a boot CD I didn't think it appropriate to but into their threads. So I am hoping if some one can tell me is this a hardware issue or a Linux/New dual core CPU/ or Bios/Mother board issue. If it is a Linux issue then my Laptop surely would not boot would it? My bench top is only a week old and guaranteed, should I be sending it from Adelaide back to Sydney(purchased online from MWave) for fault inspection? or just take to a local Technician for a diagnosis. I am not having any hardware problem running Windows 7.

I'm trying to run extract-ikconfig because I've mistakenly deleted an old kernel config that I'd like to recover. However, when running the script from the latest (2.6.32.5) tree I run into this error:
Quote:
ERROR: Unable to extract kernel configuration information.
This kernel image may not have the config info.
Coincidentally, this happens with all of my kernel images. Is it a fixable problem? I should really set CONFIG_IKCONFIG_PROC next time..

I'm trying to install Fedora 13 VM on my CentOS 5.5 64 bit install following the below link. I used this same process to install a CentOS 5.5 VM just to test the process. Now when I try to follow it making changes for Fedora Im getting an error.[URL] config file:
kernel = "/install/vm/fedora/vmlinuz"
ramdisk = "/install/vm/fedora/initrd.img"
name = "fedora13"
[code]...
In the CentOS link I posted it said to use kernel from the xen directory.Ive found out that the last fedora version that shipped with xen was fedora 8. Does anyone know where I can find a fedora 12/13 xen kernel? Ive searched google for hours and can not find a xen kernel. Actually I'm to the point where I would even use ubuntu or any similar distro if I could find a xen kernel.

I've been playing around with trying to assemble a bare-bones Linux system on a disk.img file through a loop device. I compiled the most recent stable kernel and then copied it onto the root partition in the image. When I try to boot up into the image using qemu, grub gives me this:
Code:
Booting 'tiny'
root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinux
Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format
Press any key to continue... I am confused because I compiled the kernel with 'make bzImage', and the architecture hasn't changed (qemu on the same machine used to build the kernel). So it should be bzImage format. Is that what this Error 13 means, or could it means something else is wrong...?

I've compiled and added a kernel in Gentoo before. It doesn't seem to go quite as smoothly in Kubuntu 9.10 These are the steps I followed: I unpacked the kernel in /usr/src and ran make && make modules_install succesfully. Then I copied the kernel in arch/x86/boot/bzImage to /boot/bzImage-2.6.32 This entry is the one given by Kubuntu:
Code:
menuentry "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic" {
recordfail=1
if [ -n ${have_grubenv} ]; then save_env recordfail; fi
set quiet=1
[code]....
I just read the script that update grub uses. Changed the name of the kernel from xyz to vmlinuz-2.6.32-generic and it worked.

I have a weird problem with one of my servers (normal PC hardware). I was connected remotely using Putty, doing some stuff, and all of the sudden some commands, like "ls" stopped working, giving a "file or command not found" type of message. I restarted the ssh session, only to find out I couldn't log on any more (access denied). When I got home and rebooted the system, I was greeted with this:Booting 'CentOS (2.6.18-194.el5xen)'root (hd0,0)Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83kernel /boot/xen.gz-2.6. 18-194.el5Error 15: File not foundPress any key to continue...Then I searched about this, found out that the files in /boot/grub/menu.lst did not exist at the specified location (/boot/xen.gz-2.6. 18-194.el5). Somehow I managed to find them in another place, copied them in place, and now I get:Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format

In 10.04 I was using the following commands to mount an encrypted disk image:
Code: sudo losetup -f Which tells what loop back device block is available Then I'd type:
Code: sudo losetup -e aes /dev/loop0 /home/user/crypt.img and then enter the device's password
Code: sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/loop0 /media/crypt I've tried this in 10.10 and it hasn't been working (I can't remember if I did anything in 10.04 to make it work). I've installed the loop-aes-utils package and restarted my machine. Every time I try the 2nd step, after entering the password I get: Code: ioctl: LOOP_SET_STATUS: Invalid argument, requested cipher or key length (128 bits) not supported by kernel

I decided today to try Xubuntu on my netbook.I downloaded an ISO of it, formatted my old 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro, and used Unetbootin to copy all the stuff onto the drive.Of course with flashing cursor after "boot:". So I tried rewriting with Unetbootin, and then even tried writing an ISO of Kubuntu to the flash drive.Each and every time, I get the same message.

I'm trying to install a driver for a Jetway ADPE4S Daughterboard on Ubuntu 10.04 but coming up against some problems. When I use 'make', I get this error: make ARCH=x86_64 CC=cc LD=ld CROSS_COMPILE= V= -C /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.32 M=`pwd` modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.32'

Not knowing what to do, I've been playing around with it, and copied the files autoconf.h and auto.conf from a folder '/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-25-generic', but that didn't help, it still says "No rule to make target `code'. Stop."

Trying simply to insert into table. Have succeeded in doing this but now want to correct user use of invalid characters. If I'm understanding correctly, Real-escape-string seems to correct these, so I've been trying to figure out how to use it. A short, test code version gives me a syntax error at INSERT VALUES, which--because it still has the single quotes in the text--tells me the real-escape-string didn't work. The code below gives me a parseing error with invalid $END at </body>.

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my laptop.Its a dual boot with XP, have been using ubuntu/xp for a while now..Till now i always used to remove older kernel images after ubuntu update, then update grub and do "sudo apt-get autoclean" never had any problem at all.i skipped the second step, i removed the old kernel image and did "Autoclean" on apt-get but forgot to update grub.
Now after i have reboot, when grub loads i can see only 2 "Memtest" lines in grub list and 1 "windows xp" line.the "Linux kernel generic" line is missing. I can boot in xp (have done just that to post this) but since there is no line in grub list to boot into Ubuntu, cant boot in Ubuntu.Is there any option, something i can do at "Grub" to boot into Ubuntu?
