Ubuntu :: Internet In Pc Using Aircel-gprs Facility?
Jul 28, 2010
iam using an aircel connection in my mobile and i was able to use its pocket internet facility in my pc using windows operating system.but when i tried it in ubuntu9.10,i was unsuccessful.iam using NOKIA 6600 and it has been connected to the pc using a bluetooth dongle as my phone has no usb connection facility.when using ubuntu 9.10 bluetooth was automatically enabled in my pc.In terminal window i typed the following commands
"sudo hcitool scan" and my phone was detected as
"12:12:12:12:12:12 NOKIA". then i typed
"sudo sdptool browse 12:12:12:12:12:12" and i got the result as
"failed connection to sdp server on 12:12:12:12:12:12:connection reset by peer".
I have a Samsung phone (S3310) and I'm trying use it as a modem to access the net on 10.04. I set up a Mobile broadband connection (under network connections) and I'm pretty sure the settings are correct because it works on a Nokia phone with the same service provider.
When I plug in my Data Cable and set it to Samsung PC Studio mode, my phone isn't detected as a modem. I just tried wvdialconf and it says "No modem detected". I'm guessing that maybe I'm missing some drivers here. what I can do get the phone detected as a modem.
How to connect to my Mobile Phone which have GPRS. I want to connect Via BLUETOOTH. Becoz I dont have any Data Cables.Plz give me the instructions to connect to my Phone via Bluetooth to access Internet.
trying to connect to the internet using wvdial but facing problems. the command runs fine until i get PID ppd Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Sat Oct 23 10:40:09 2010 --> Pid of pppd: 2520
nothing happens after this.. I checked the resolve.conf and it is empty. i put openDNS server addresses but still did not work.
I use Opensuse 11.2 & Edge/Gprs Modem to connect Internet.I configured /etc/wvdial.conf & /etc/resolv.conf. Now I can connect Internet using this command "wvdial MYNET" in terminal. Now I want to share my internet using Lan card & Netgear Router. If i connect my PC with Router using wire & change option ON BOOT find this device in ifup then it'll show in ifconfig command.
My Router IP : 192.168.0.1 & It gives my PC an IP automatically : 192.168.0.2
I can ping my router.. even I can browse Router Admin page in browser. No problem there. But now If i want to connect my net using wvdial command... net connected... but no data passing!!! If i disable Lan card in ifup then Edge/Gprs net connection again OK!
I have a little bit of a prediciment with my Mobile Broadband dongle, even though I know I'm in a 3G area (Dongle Supports 3G connection) my internet still loads at the normal GPRS speeds max of 5kb/s. Is there anyway to change the speed of it or do I have to keep with GPRS at the moment?
Basically ubuntu 10.04 did an upgrade about a month ago, since then, GNOME has been playing up - it just displays in the default 'theme' rather than the one ubuntu style i choose. secondly, there is no facility to manage the windows on screen - by that i mean to close minimise/maximise windows or even drag them round the screen as the 'border' around the application isnt there.Im using xfce as a workaround at the moment , but would like to get GNOME sorted if possible for what its worth this is on my compaq nx9005 laptop, upgrades at the same time on my main pc didnt suffer the same fate.
So far I have tried PING, rsync, Clonezilla and tar. All have one or another problem. I'm sure that this is in part to my own ignorance and partly due to running the 64 bit version of Karmic, but I cannot seem to find anyone who has real answers.
I can't find the repair facility when running the openSUSE 11.3 install DVD. In earlier editions it was on the Installation Mode screen, three options:
New Installation Update Other Options
Under Other Options there used to be a repair function. I can't find the repair facility in 11.3. Is it now located somewhere else, or has it been removed?
i want to use an ubuntu server (2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP) as the central syslog server but the syslog messages does not show the priority and facility information in ubuntu. priority and facility are shown in aix by default and i have many aix servers can be used as the central syslog server, but i prefer using ubuntu if it can provide me these details.
I want to compile a Source to RPM with no Cache option. I have tried it with enable-storeio=null option in squid.spec file. After installing the compiled RPM, seen that it is making squid spooling directories and caching the objects, working fine.
On my centos 5.6 , the KMouth is functioning for 'text to speech' facility. Can you please let me know if we have 'speech to text' facility for centos?
I have a syslog server which is logging locally and also receiving syslogs from another device. The other device doesnt allow you to change the facility. The facility it is using is "4 - security/authorization messages". Is there anyway to configure syslog so that it writes the sec/auth logs in different places for both the local machine and the remote machine?
I am trying to get pppd/chat working with an internal Wavecom modem, but PPP terminates with message "LCP terminated by peer". But, same pppd/chat configuration is working on my own Linux OS with Huawei 3G modem. I tried several options to get it working, but no luck. The problem is happening during the PPP negotiation with the Modem:
rcvd [LCP TermReq id=0x2] LCP terminated by peer
But this only mean that there was a failure during PPP setup between Linux and the Modem. I tested the modem with manual AT commands via minicom to further investigate to problem, but could not even activate the PDP context:
Modem is registered and attached to Vodacom's network:
I am trying to connect my q75 micromax mobile with my computer as modem using wvdial. But I could not connect as modem. I insalled wvdial, gnome-ppp and mode switch through synaptic package manager.
This is the message I got from terminal window. After this, there is no connection. I closed the terminal window using ctrl+C command. My mobile is dual sim phone. I want to connect through one ISP provider for GPRS. How to set this in wvdial configuration file.

I have two Desktops. Both running Fedora 9 and connected to each other with a crossover cable. I have a GPRS connection via a USB bluetooth Dongle. I can connect thru rfcomm on Kppp. Assigned static ip's 192.168.10.1/2 and can ping from one computer to the other. So far so good but now I want to share the internet connection between the two computers and run into a maze of gateways and DNS and iptables and am spinning around with no clues. Some of the things I do not understand are
1. What gateway does one assign when your computer directly connect to the internet through a GPRS and not through a NIC or router??
2. When I try to load the shared NFS folder, why does it say "could not load the location: internal error"?
3. Is there somewhere I could get a step-by step instruction??
I want connect to Internet via my phone ( Motorola A1200 ) I can connect currectly in micro$oft windowns 7 but I can not connect in my linux via wvdial.
I'm developing an application to monitorize the network interfaces plugged in my PC. I know that wireless interfaces are listed in /proc/net/dev, but I don't know how to identify a cellular NIC.Is there any virtual file in /proc that shows the cellular NICs in the system? Could I identify different cellular NICs looking at /dev/tty?

I need to setup my Sony Ericson C510 phone modem in Ubuntu linux the latest one that I have installed. When I connect my Phone using USB connection it doesnt show me the Dialog box where it says create new "Mobile Broadband Connection". I am not sure how can I configure my Tata Docomo GPRS Connection to use it with Ubuntu.
Here's one blog i came across which says:- Its wonderful to see people browsing in their mobile phones at work places and while they travel. Many Telecom companies provide cheap GPRS / EDGE based internet connectivity which can also be connected to a computer. Here, I will explain how to connect TATA Docomo Internet service in your Ubuntu machine.
I want to configure a Gprs dial up connection through my Nokia N91 to surf internet in openSUSE. I am using openSUSE 11.2 installed as a guest OS in ORACLE VIRTUALBOX (virtual pc) in windows host. I connected my mobile to openSUSE using a data cable and the phone modem is detected. I configured Wvdial.conf file and used Wvdial to connect to the internet. After performing many changes I finally managed to get a successful connection, when still I cannot surf any webpage in the browser.
The only error that I get during wvdial connection is about Namespace (DNS) failed. I am using a AIRTEL (India) gprs internet connection.
