I entered to gnome-art, picked 3 icon sets and downloaded them, then opened them with theme installer which installed them on the system. I pick 1 of them, the icons theme switch, but it switches to the gnome default icons. can't seem to find any solution to the situation.
View 8 RepliesWhenever i try to apply a new theme .. everything seems to be ok except the gnome menu ... sometimes when applying icons, depending on the theme you can see it has applied almost everywhere except when u go to "Places" the icons there in the gnome menu is still on default.. have a look at the screenshot here..

My problem is they do not display properly. When I select them all the icons for the folders etc revert to the default Gnome ones. How do I fix this? They all have an index.theme file.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Centos 5.5 X86_64 and recently after updating my server, I am having problem loading gnome. When the server boots, and begins to bring up the login screen theme, I get an error that states "Could not recognize the image file format for /usr/share/gdm/themes/TreeFlower/background.png" I am able to login after clicking ok to this message, and using the "simplistic" login manager. But when the users desktop loads, there are several errors pertaining to "unsupported image format" and none of the icons are displaying correctly. They are just the default "curvy page" icon for an unassociated file type. Some of the icons do not even show up at all.
Another thing I noticed wierd is that when I try to view a png, nothing happens. When I try to open one using gimp, I get an "unsupported file type" error. When I tried to click on the "add/remove software" button I get prompted for root pass, but nothing happens. So, I tried launching pirut from CLI, and I received the following error:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't know why but every icon you put to be appearing in tray for the gnome-ppp status (/usr/share/gnome-ppp/*.png) are not transparent when displayed in tray (even if they're .png w/ transparent background).
Somebody knows why?
When I boot and just before I enter my password If I select "Gnome" in bottom task bar, when my desktop boots there are no short cut icon on the desktop. If I select "Failsafe Gnome" when the desktop boots all is fine.Why is this Happening. Shouldn't everything show when I boot normally (Using Gnome).I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - lucid Lynx which I just onstalled a few days ago.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI run Gnome and i want KDE applications to use the same icon set as i have for my Gnome desktop. I have searched the file system and found a folder called "default.kde4" in /usr/share/icons. I assume this is where KDE applications pull their icons from. Firstly, this folder is a linked folder. How do i find out where the original folder that it is linked to is? Secondly, i am assuming, that the KDE icons won't be a name for name match for the icons i am using in Gnome (Faenza just in case anyone is curious). What is the easiest way to get the KDE icons changed for the one's i am using in Gnome?

One icon normal and the second blurry. Other than this Gnome 3 seems to be fine. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have updated my ubuntu to the following kernel: 2.6.31-20. There has been several other update such as compiz that I do not have installed.Anyway, now I gnome doesn't work properly - at least I think it is Gnome, I cannot switch between windows, I do not have the bar on top with the cross and all I only have one desktop loaded out of 4 and the computer is continuously working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with the notification Area, Indicator Applet, and Indicator Applet Session and the way they appear in the top gnome panel. The icons are scrambled at log in and I have to delete them and replace them to get things looking right. I didn't have this issue in Karmic; it has only occurred since upgrade to lucid. I have reset my gnome config files and the problem still occurs.
As a side note, the issue only seems to occur when the icons in the notification area or session indicator are abnormal. ie, sound is muted, lap top is unplugged, and so forth.
I recently restarted my computer after trying to install an update that was available for ubuntu (linux kernel image update i believe) which failed.
After restarting the computer, the ubuntu splash screen appeared as usual, and now my desktop is gone (see attached image).
I also got a gnome error message (attached) which i've never seen before, but i'm guessing it's related to my absent desktop.
How to restore my desktop?
I have tried to properly install sun-java5-jdk to prepare android build environment on dedicated virtual machine with Ubuntu 10.04 desktop x86 installation. The problem is that packages are not available in canonical repositories for lucid and install from sun packages does not work properly - i.e. for rpm there is a lot of missing dependencies and bin package just extracts directory tree without proper installation.
I know that sun java is deprectaed and we should use OpenJDK but even there are only repositories for JDK version 6 which is unsupported by android build environment.
Synaptic Package Manager command Force Version on JDK6 is inactive (for both open and sun) and I can not find any JDK 5 available for install.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and after recently changing a theme, all icons are stuck as GNOME defaults.I read some threads where it's only the folder icon that's stuck but as it is every single icon then I decided I'd best just ask.

I want to know how the size of the gnome icons in toolbars (see pic) is specified. Those icons for 'new', 'open', 'save', ... that are used in Nautilus or Gedit.
I just played around with the gtkrc of my theme, but I couldn't find any option there. Aren't the icons scaleable? Are there smaller icon sets available?
Basically I decided to install KDE, then after disliking it I uninstalled it, however I am left with icons for all the old KDE apps in my applications bar, is there any way I can get them removed.

After a new installation of Ubuntu 10.10 (regular or alternative) I get to the login screen as usual. However, after logging in I get no panels or icons. In fact, I only get the Ubuntu background and a working mouse cursor. The same happens when I try Ubuntu from the live CD (with a black background). The installation itself was performed in a high resolution with no problems at all! I got a panel there (for sound, wireless, etc.).
After installation I can also Ctrl-Alt-F1 to login textually to see my processes. When I restart GDM I will get back to the login screen, but I after visually logging in I again see no panels or icons! Where should I start with a working visual installation and login screen, but a blank desktop environment after login?
Reinstalling or creating another user will not work.

I tried installing it in gnome classic hoping that it carries over to gnome 3 but cant find the theme manager panel anymore.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOne day, I was altering the size of the icons to make them smaller. I first made them larger (to 150%), and then shrunk them down to 66%. I did this through Nautilus while being in the /var/www folder. The Desktop icons resized down to the 66%, as well as all other icons. However, the icons in the /var/www folder remained large (at the 150%). I've tried changing it, and no change occurs in the particular folder.

Since then, whenever i try to log on, an error message appears saying that Gnome Communications (? i think thats what it said) center didn't configure properly and to contact the computer administrator.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Zotac nettop. When I boot up normally, all my external USB drives are recognized and mounted properly in /media.
But when I boot up without Gnome (i.e. there's no monitor attached so Gnome doesn't start) they don't mount right: I see directories for them inside /media but normal users don't have access, and root only sees an empty directory.
Im on an inspiron 5100 laptop and i wanted to try out the new GNOME shell and every time i launch it it takes a long time then does not display correctly at all. forcing me to restart.

I prefer it this way and also KDE has it.

Then I restored the mime directory back, and typed command sudo gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/Humanity. But my action doesn't work. The files' icons remains the gnome style.
