Ubuntu :: Install Ushare To Be Able To Play Music And Videos On Xbox 360
Feb 22, 2011
So in trying to install ushare to be able to play my music and videos on my xbox 360, I have apparently screwed something up and now I can't get ushare to work. I can't even get it uninstall and do a fresh install. I used the instructions found here: [URL]. I got down to the basic configuration tool. I entered the name of the media server, which I called Ubuntu_Media_Server. Then I identified my network interface, which was my wireless connection (wlan0). Then I told it what directory to share, which was /home/ryan/music and hit enter.
It did exactly what it was supposed to do which was to restart ushare. And then, oops, I forgot, I wanted to be able to see my videos as well as my music, so I went back and ran the same command that I had to start the configuration tool which was $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure ushare and voila, I went back and added in the directory for the video folder that I wanted to share and hit enter. Again, it restarted as expected then it said permission was denied to the video folder. So I went to the video folder and gave permission for it to be shared. So then in all my illustrious wisdom (which apparently equates to dumbass), I decided to completely uninstall ushare and do a fresh install. Then it wouldn't reinstall, same problem permission denied for the video file.
I am trying to stream my music and videos to my xbox 360 from ubuntu 10.10, and I have set up ushare to do that. Ushare seems to be workign correctly, it starts up and the xbox recognises the share from the media menu, but there is no videos or music! For some reason ushare doesnt find any media in the folders I specified, and I double checked and the paths look correct to me. This is the error I get in the terminal:
I have ushare server connected to my 360 and its working fine, I can see my videos and watch them perfectly, but my music or mp3's arent displaying on the 360 properly at all.
In the video library it displays all the sub folders with the videos in them first and then the video files that arent in a folder, thats normal for me. But the music libray is only showing 1000 files and half of it is the album art jpg files etc. I have well over 30,000 mp3's and 98% of them are organised into folders etc.
Is there anyone else out there who uses UShare? I'm trying to set it up so I can stream videos from Ubuntu to my Xbox 360. I got it set up however it spews out this:
Code: uShare (version 1.1a), a lightweight UPnP A/V and DLNA Media Server. Benjamin Zores (C) 2005-2007, for GeeXboX Team. See [URL] for updates. Initializing UPnP subsystem ... Starting in XboX 360 compliant profile ... UPnP MediaServer listening on 192.168.2.3:49224 Sending UPnP advertisement for device ... Listening for control point connections ... Building Metadata List ... Looking for files in content directory : /home/james/videos scandir: No such file or directory Found 1 files and subdirectories.
As you can see it's saying no such file or directory but at the same time telling me it did find the one file in the directory. How to fix this or any other software will allow me to achieve streaming to 360? Because this software seems extremely buggy.
First time i installed and set config up it did fine now i get this error
Interface eth0 is down. Recheck uShare's configuration and try again ! uShare (version 1.1a), a lightweight UPnP A/V and DLNA Media Server. Benjamin Zores (C) 2005-2007, for GeeXboX Team. See http://ushare.geexbox.org/ for updates. bind: Address already in use
i tried switiching to wlan0 and i still get the same error
I have been using uShare for a few years now, and up until now it has worked great. A few snags here and there, but nothing I couldn't figure out, although after five years using Ubuntu, i still consider myself a noob. Now I am on a new machine, running Ubuntu 11.04 (my last one was running 9.04) and I am having trouble with uShare again. Its installed, configured, and runs just fine, but my xbox won't recognize it.Here's the catch: the first night I set it up, after a few errors, I got it working! Watched a movie, smiled, and went to bed. Woke up the next morning, booted up the comp, fired up ushare and BAM! Nothing. I hadn't changed any settings, moved any cables, downloaded anything new, but no dice. After a little searching, I updated the .conf file to reflect a change I noticed in the IFACE. Sometimes when I boot my computer, it connects to the router on eth0, sometimes on eth1, and sometimes on eth0-eth1. I'm not sure what is up with that, but that may be a problem for another day. For right now, I just want uShare to work.
ushare.conf # /etc/ushare.conf # Edit this file with 'dpkg-reconfigure ushare'
I want to play my videos on my xbox off of my pc [ubuntu10.10]. I have Ushare configured as follows:
USHARE_NAME=tom-ubuntu USHARE_IFACE=xbox (I created a new wired connection in the network manager (IPV4 set to shared to other computers and that's what I named it). USHARE_PORT=49200 (not sure if that's correct or how I'd go about finding the port)
Is there another program I can use to share my movies to my 360? Ive tried setting uShare up numerous times, and always get errors. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and now I can even re-download it.
I just got my hands on an MSI E7235-295US and slapped Ubuntu 9.10 on it. So far everything's worked great, but I am beginning to get a bit concerned about my sound quality. The laptop itself has 5 speakers + subwoofer so I should be getting 5.1 sound, if I understand things correctly (the newegg link should provide more details) and when I play anything (music, flash, videos, games, etc...) the sound comes out 'muffled'. Almost as if it is in a concert hall, maybe. I initially wondered if the problem is related to the 5 speakers and if the sound is initially only setup for two. If that is the case, nothing I've done has seemed to made any real difference. I've tried changing the master/pci channels, but it only hides it a little, and doesn't solve the problem.
This seemed to be on the right track, but the laptop is still really new and not listed in the alsa file.

I'm trying to us ushare to stream music and video to my 360. I have ushare setup and my 360 sees ushare but none of the files I'm trying to stream. When I run ushare -x it only sees the two folders I'm sharing and none of the files.
I have a Ushare server up and running in Ubuntu-Server 10.10. So far the only video type I have been able to get working on my Xbox360 is .avi. I am very interested in configuring it to play .wmv and .mkv videos as well, seeing as most of my library is made up of these two file-types. After taking a look at ushare's documentation, I found that .wmv and .mkv are both fully supported video formats; however, I can't seem to get either of them to work. Every time I attempt to play either of those two type, I receive a message saying: Unplayable Content: Can't play this content because it may not be supported. For more info, go to.... Here is my ushare.conf file:
This is the only thing stopping me from totally coming to Ubuntu rather than dual booting with Windows 7....sharing my Videos and Music to the XBOX 360.... i love it so if i can get this resolved i would be a very happy Linux user.
I have an Asus ul30vt with the Intel 4500MHD/Nvidia G210M hybrid graphics. I finally found a way to get the Nvidia card to work. I followed these instructions [URL] and now my nvidia card is working. Now though I can't play a single video through the movie player that comes with Lucid 64bit or VLC. I have tried various movies in different formats and different resolutions, both hd and sd. Every video just shows a black screen with sound in the background.
EDIT: I set the output on vlc to X11 and now my videos play but 720p is p little choppy sometimes and 1080p is completely unplayable. Using the Intel card 720p was perfect and 1080p wasn't nearly as choppy but still not really watchable. So something must be messed up because this card should play a lot better than the Intel.
I want to cancel our cable tv. We don't really use it except for the kids and they don't care what's on as long as it's animated.
That being said, we have a ton of kid movies we want to try to burn to the computer and share those to the XBox. I know that Windows has a way of sharing files using Windows Media Player and sharing to the XBox, but I wasn't sure if there was another way.
i just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my imac. i can play videos from videos no problem but when i try and play avi, mov or any other video format, the movie player quickly opens and closes. when i try with vlc player, i see the player bar but no video. when i try with smplayer, i can watch the video but when i go full screen, the movie doesn't take up the whole area of the screen. it stays at the same small size.
what do i need to do to make this right? i installed the ubuntu restricted extras. did i miss something?
I have some videos in .mkv that I need to convert to .avi to play on my Xbox 360. I started out trying ffmpeg, but ran into some errors. I tried some of the GUI options available, but they didn't work for me either and I prefer command line anyway. So I'm back to trying to get ffmpeg to work. I started off with:
Code: ffmpeg -i movie.mkv movie.avi This gives me the Error while opening codec etc etc due to not specifying enough parameters. So if I try something like: Code: ffmpeg -i movie.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec copy movie.avi I get "av_interleaved_writeframe(): Error while opening file" error
[Code]...
So at this point I have an idea how to make it work, but am lacking some info. I figure if I try to go from .mkv to .avi while giving it the correct codec options -vcodec and -acodec it will know what to do and give me a workable result. The problem is I don't know what those codecs are. Is there another way for me to work this?
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.
I've searched upon numerous links for a "fix" but they are either for older releases of fedora, or, I was able to make appropriate changes to the F12 KDE4 release such as the F11 how to fix pulseaudio and vlc guide in this forum
Problem: In order to get the sound to play on my system I have to go to PulseAudio Device Chooser and select default server, sink, etc. every login. I thought it was suppose to change it "permanently" , getting more specific here, when ever I play music in vlc I tend notice gaps/skips in my music very short skips .5 to 1 second sometimes 2 - 3, just now I was playing music flipping through some tracks then I am greeted with a nasty sound I cannot describe. Does anyone have a proper fix for this? Only result I came upon I have not tried yet was something with hda intel sound card and power settings, which feel will not work anyway
Here is my sound card: Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Also not to mention, I use to get pop-ups notifying me of pulseaudio device not being to be found and asked to forget this device
when i try to play a video, from internet it is showing the message 'Either javascript turned off or download and install latest adobe flash player'. But eventhough I downloaded and installed adobe flash player I am unable to play any video and still it is giving the above message. what is the reason?
I want to play M4A, ive downloaded gstreamer, and installed, it said i needed gstreamer multiverse, so i began to get that but then it said
Processing triggers for man-db ...Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/liblame0_3.96.1-1_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I cant use -f install or -f upgrade or -f update or anything, this is what i get when i use -f install
how i can play a music with Canberra-gtk-play?because i had writedanberra-gtk-play -f musicfile but it does not play a music or maybe no sound is outed.
I'm having a weird problem just when I try to play music/videos. The song/video stops playing after a couple minutes, but everything works fine on my computer. This happens with videos on websites and files being playing in media programs(which I've tried several different ones now). My speakers are pretty old and need to be replaced soon, but I didn't think that would really cause this sort of issue. I've tried various suggestions for other sound issues, but haven't really seen anyone with this exact problem
I were to download a demo from [URL] would it save the demo to my laptop and then I could transfer it to my Xbox via Ethernet cable, even though my laptop has Ubuntu on it or does it have to be Windows computer?
I ask, b/c either way it is just a file on my laptop, regardless of the OS.
I would like to do is as the subject says, I want to take a music video and then sync several light channels to the music video.
I would like dimming control of the lights as you would have with a DMX 512 system or even Midi. In which the light programming is done in a choreographed sequencing pattern, much like many Midi "piano roll" based editing software.
In a nutshell I would like to do what the Windows program "Vixen" Christmas lighting control program does, but within Linux AND for videos. Sadly Vixen doesn't support syncing to video's at this time...only audio. Another thing is that Vixen also doesn't work with Wine, so it is a no go in Linux.
I would hope that by now there is some kind of video program that does permit syncing to external output devices.
I currently have my pc in dual boot with UBUNTU 9.1 and windows xp. I want to remove windows but keep my videos, music, and pics. Is there a way to do this without having to burn them all to disc?
