View 3 RepliesI cant resist till Sunday without OS, so I decided to give it a try with 10.10 RC.I installed it on my USB, since my DVD drive is kinda faulty sometimes.I used the 10.10 RC desktop amd64, installed on the USB through Unetbootin 4.90, started Live and works flawlessly.I checked to be sure there were no defects, there aren't.But when I went to install it, either directly from the boot option or double-clicking the icon in the desktop, it check whether is plugged etc., I click next and just looks like is loading for an infinite times. This happen both if I connect to the Internet or not, if I choose to install updates or not and the mp3 codec or not.Once i left it there for 90 minutes and nothing change it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedFor whatever reason, I cannot for the life of me install server amd64 on my server machine. I have a quad-core phenom 1st gen. USB/CD/HD, it doesn't matter what media its from. It randomly freezes on unpacking or configuring, the steps after configuring the network. If I shutdown, I can sometimes get further, or sometimes its shorter. I can't have it connected to the internet when installing or it goes bonkers. I have tried most of the fixes suggested around the forums, to no avail.
Now here is the crazy thing, I installed Ubuntu 64 Desktop with no problems. So for now, I will continued to install desktop and using tasksel to change it to a server.Oh BTW, I just found out installing desktop works, but I have had this server install problem since Gutsy. The 32bit version installs just fine.
i need to install Cool'n'Quiet driver for my CPU? Or, do I need to enable the same from my BIOS? If I enable it in Bios, will my Windows installation will be affected although I'm not using it for general purpose. It's there only for games.

i just want to know whats the best way to do it cause i use a method which i dont know if is ok (by the way it works) but im not sure if my card is giving 100% (Geforce 8600gt), right now im using mys system isSqueeze with the non-free repos, what i usually do to get Nvidia work.

I've tried both the binary and the tar.gz with the help provided on the old amd64 forum but it's still tell me that the the package architecture (i386) does not match the system (amd64). Do someone have any idea other than switching to the 32-bits version?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use nspluginwrapper to run 32bit Flash in Iceweasel. I need some 32bit libraries that aren't included in ia32-libs, like libnss3.so and libssl3.so. However I have no idea how to get them. I've tried aptitude install ia32-libs-libnss3 like it says on the wiki but it just tells me that it can't find ia32-libs-libnss3. I've also tried aptitude install libnss3.so but it gives me the same error. I'm running amd64 Lenny 5.0.5. What should I do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedGo to "/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/" and delete the e1000e.ko-file
Then download [URL]
Take the newly downloaded e1000e.ko-file and move it to "/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/"
And finally load the module with either: "# modprobe e1000e" or "# insmod e1000e".
You should now have a working ethernet connection.
If connection is lost on system restart try rmmod e1000e; modprobe e1000e
I've for the first time installed linux (debian) to my computer. And I have a problem with ethernet that I can't solve.
I have a Asus Sabertooth P67 motherboard with built in ethernet card, I cant find any drivers for linux, I've tried google, Asus support page etc, but can't anything that says it will work with my computer, just a alot of windows drivers.
where I can find the drivers? Or if there's another way to solve the problem. When installing Debian i could choose between different drivers but no one worked, I've also tried with my motherboard CD but there was just windows drivers...

There's a certain program I'm trying to run that will only work with the 32-bit version of a certain library - the 64-bit version included in the repository won't work for it. I found an i386 .deb package online (made for ubuntu but it should work with regular debian), but when I try to install it, it says incorrect architecture, use amd64 version instead.
How can I force it to accept the i386 version of this package?
I got a i386.bin software,but I can't installed it on my amd64 Debian.
Quote:
#dpkg -i --force-architecture .i386.deb
can install i386.deb software, but how to install the i386.bin?
videos videos work great, but unfortunately, when i try to access videos on hulu.com, i receive this error message: "we're sorry but we're unable stream this video to your system. this may be due to an adobe software limitation on 64-bit linux systems."
this is strange because hulu videos were working after i installed lynx but mysteriously stopped working. i don't have the swfdec-mozilla package installed nor the mozilla-plugin-gnash nor the flashplugin-installer.
what do i need to do to start clean and install the necessary packages?
while trying to install debian amd64 KDE, in the Detect Disks section, the process stops at: No disk drive was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your disk drive, you can select it from the list.
Driver needed for your disk drive: and gives a long list of drivers. my hard drives are Crucial C300 128GB.
i have no idea which driver on the list to pick so i can continue with install.
I've installed 11.04 64bit several times, and here's what happens. On install and reboot, seems to work fine. Then on 2nd boot, 2 things:1) grub has changed, the count-down counter is gone.2) will not boot in normal mode, I have to boot in reduced graphics mode, and even then only boots about 50% of the time, and then hangs on shut down.Help! I'm running 10.10, and it's got problems on my new laptop too, and was hoping 11.04 would get me where I need to be. I do NOT want to go back to windows. Some more info:Dell Vostro 3550, with Intel i3, and Radeon discrete graphics.3GB DRAM

View 6 Replies View RelatedHow would I install Remastersys on Natty 11.04?
I tried the instructions from the Remastersys website: For Karmic, Lucid and Newer with grub2 - version 2.0.13-1 and up # Remastersys deb [URL]
But, I receive an error message when the software sources reload.
This may be too late, but, Do not under any circumstances install or Upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty, it is the buggiest distro they have ever produced, it is better to stick to 10.04, it's far more stable and stuff just works. Natty use a new desktop called Unity, that is totally useless, there are ssh issues that prevent logging to a remote terminal using a public key, Natty is just useless. I'm going to have to backup my ~ directory and reformat then re-install 10.4, until such times as Natty is fixed!. Check the launchpad bugs section and you'll see there are more complaints about Natty then any other Ubuntu version.

The results are the same always, the USB boots, into the splash screen, I select Start Kubuntu, it goes to the loading screen. I need to install the system on a new disk (2tb) instead of upgrading because I have to send the current one (1tb) to replacement. Could the large 2tb disk be a problem? I tried unplugging all disks and leaving just the disk I want to install to, but no deal... (both are SATA).(Checked the md5sum and they both match for DVD and CD...)
Having a problem in installing Natty onto my ASUS EEEPC. Ive already changed the boot menu to install from USB, however, it will not mount the USB in order for it to boot. I created the image using the Ubuntu startup disk creator and also downloaded the image from the ubuntu website (ive already read about the faults with using some torrents). I know the USB stick works and is bootable as ive installed Natty onto a Acer aspire netbook using it. how i could get the USB to mount so i am able to install Natty.

THe problem is, when it finished installing 10.04, I got this message: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso' Is there any way around this? It might just be that overly restrictive thing called Vista (which I have the bad luck to be using). I was considering getting a USB drive for Ubuntu anyway..
