Dec 1, 2010I recently made the switch from gnome to kde, and I can't seem to figure out how to make compiz work in kde.

View 5 RepliesI'm having trouble getting compiz to work on my Laptop. It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Linux Mint 8, which is an amazing distribution.I can get everything to work perfect, but I cannot figure out how to make the mouse wheel change desktops in compiz. Also, make sure that it only changes desktops when the mouse is over an empty desktop because I got it working once but the mouse wheel would change desktops all the time, even when I was trying to scroll through a webpage or document.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs said here: [URl] I want the sphere deformation, but that needs the PPA apparently (I can't find it anywhere in the default compiz Ubuntu 10.10 ships with.) Compiz starts, but it says it can't load plugin 'decoration.'

I've looked around Google for a solution to this but I just can't find anything. It's probably a very simple solution that I'm just missing. I'm running Gnome 2 on Ubuntu 11.04 (I removed Unity completely). But when I login to the system it is using the Metacity windows environment. I can get compiz working by running 'compiz --replace'. I just added that command to the 'Startup Applications' but that way seems like a cheesy workaround. Is there a way to make compiz the *ACTUAL* default window manager without using the 'Startup Applications' route?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAll ive had since i upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 s problems. After i upgraded and rebooted my machine, i logged in and the desktop would not load. Ive managed to sort that out but i cannot get compiz and emerald to work! I had it working perfectly before i upgraded
When i open compiz-fusion icon in the bar and change the desktop to compiz and emerald, the buttons on top of the window disappear and i cant do anything unless i change it back.
I upgraded to 11.04 and now the mouse focus doesn't change to the newly-selected window when I switch between windows with Alt-tab.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI finally waded through all the graphical issues that have been reported when upgrading 10.10 to 11.04. I've managed to get the nvidia drivers installed and working (even though Jockey still reports that nvidia-current is installed but has not been activated).Whenever I log into an Ubuntu Classic session, GNOME defaults to using metacity as the window manager. In order to get my compiz effects working, I have to open a terminal and do "compiz --replace". After that, everything appears to work normally including on screen notifications, the cube, etc.
I've though of including a "compiz --replace" script in Startup Applications as a possible workaround, but is there a better way to handle not having compiz started by default? Is there something in gconf-editor or similar that I can edit in order to make GNOME default to using compiz?
There is the Compiz feature that allows you to group and tab windows.
That is very nice, but is there a way to remember a window group?
Or maybe a custom terminal command where I can call those windows grouped?
i am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with compiz fusion, when the computer loads, the compiz doesn't load with the effects automatically, to make them appear i should right click on the Compiz Fusion icon and then choose relaod window manager can i make this work automatically when the computer is load?

View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning a Eee 1005HA netbook that has an Intel 945 GMA. Yes, I am in Lucid. First, I tried turning on the desktop effects. I did this the way Ubuntu intends, by going through Appearance Preferences, going to the Visual Effects tab, and selecting the Normal option. My screen went black, the option is ticked, but there are obviously no effects in place.
So I go to a terminal, type in "compiz", and I get this:
Code:
$ compiz
WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXCreatePixmap" when GLX 1.3 is not supported! This is an application bug!
compiz (core) - Warn: Exceeded max texture size
Launching fallback window manager Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x3c06e29 (Джон M) Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0 timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed. Window manager warning: Received a _NET_WM_MOVERESIZE message for 0x1000005 (Atheist Co); these messages lack timestamps and therefore suck. From what I understand, I have the VESA drivers going by default. I've heard that changing that to "intel" in xorg.conf can fix this issue. This netbook is more than capable of handling compiz, especially with the RAM upgrade.
Turns out I've been out of the loop too long and xorg.conf doesn't exist anymore ever since 9.04 (or 10?). So now I don't even know how to tell xorg to use the intel graphics. I've ran glxgears and it runs at about 1415 FPS in 5 seconds. glxinfo | grep rendering says direct rendering is on.
EDIT: Well, turns out it's a dual monitor problem. I'm not connected to the other monitor and compiz is working quiet well for the netbook... kind of wish it would work with two monitors though
actually installed it for the second time of my life (gave it a try more) just yesterday.It works brilliant.The only problem I have is with the animations in Compiz. I got the CompizConfig Setting Manager and I'm operating from there.It wont work.I have installed my graphics driver, and the other effects work properly
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a flash drive along with Compiz for the eye catching effects. Everything works fine on my home IBM and (a rather newer) Dell. When I try to boot from the usb at school it works fine on our Acer computers, but on the Dells we have I get an error message after the Ubuntu splash screen. However, after the error message Ubuntu loads up, but Compiz doesn't work (A few examples are I can't do ctrl + alt + click for the cube, windows special effects like burn don't work, or anything else Compiz related).
Is this simply because of the Dell's hardware (like it doesn't have a strong enough graphics card?) or is it something I could change to make it work? (Ubuntu version, boot order, or something like that?) I know I am lacking a lot of details as to what type of Dell it is and the exact error message, but I will supply these in a day if needed.
I using a computer with a Nvidia geforce 4 and I use nouveau 3D, installed via jockey-gtk. Compiz work perfectly, but unity still don't work!
This is my terminal output:
Code:
I have official Compiz Fusion running on my Fedora 13 64-bit. I also installed some custom cursor themes and I'm seeing some strange behaviour. When mouse is on my Desktop the custom cursor theme is replaced by the default one. When I launch Firefox, for example, and move cursor inside Firefox window, then my custom cursor is being shown. Also, if I go to resize some window the custom "resize cursor" is being shown, or if system is processing something then custom hourglass cursor is shown again.
Basically while on Desktop or Gnome panels the custom cursor is being replaced by the default Fedora cursor.
This only happens when I choose Compiz as my window manager. With metacity my custom cursor theme is behaving properly. Is it possible to make Compiz Fusion not to mess with my cursor theme? Or maybe it is a Compiz bug?
Ok, this indeed is a bug, but I'm not sure if it's a Gnome or Compiz bug. Here is a fix (a bad one for now) which might save someone time. The credit for this does not belong to me, I got it form this link. So, here it goes:
1. Install gconf-editor by running "yum -y install gconf-editor"
2. Change your windows manager to metacity temporarily
3. Change your cursor theme to the desired custom one
4. Run gconf-editor and go to "desktop->gnome->peripherals->mouse" and remember the value of "cursor theme" option this gconf-editor branch.
5. Create directory with name "default" in "/home/yourUserName/.icons/" directory.
6. Inside newly created "default" directory create file with name "index.theme" with the following content:
Code:
[Icon Theme]
Name = <anything you want>
Comment = <anything you want>
Example = <anything you want>
Inherits = <THEME NAME YOU FOUND IN STEP 4>
7. After saving the file re-enable Compiz as your window manager and logout/login to your account. The problem with this fix is that you will have to modify "index.theme" file every time you will want to change your icon theme, but it works nevertheless.
I'm trying to get desktop cube in compiz to work. I can select it and create a key combination for it, but I can't get it to work. I tried creating new workspaces and making less but the cube never shows up.

Even after getting that installed I still cant get Normal compiz to work. I dont know if it is the driver or some other configuration.

I can't get flash controls to work. If the video auto-plays, it starts just fine, if not, I'm out of luck. I've tried reinstalling flash through the software center. Even if it autoplays, I can't control volume or pause or anything. I'm at the mercy of whatever is already there.
Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 - all updated as of 1/2/2009
Firefox 3.5.6
On a Lenovo Thinkpad R400
I've got 9.04 and 9.10 both installed on the same machine. The /home directory is on a separate partition, so both OSes use the same /home.I can't get Compiz to work at all in 9.10, even though it's been perfectly fine in 9.04. Is there a backport of some sort that i should install?The fixes I've found all point to editing the xorg.conf file, but of course, Karmic doesn't have an xorg.conf file.I've tried reinstalling the Compiz files, reinstalled the open-source video drivers, installed/uninstalled fglrx drivers a few times, rebooted dozens of times.

I have accidentally configured compizconfigure settings manager to activate the shift switcher whenever i press the left mouse button. because of this now i cant do any work as the shift switcher is activated whenever i press the left mouse button
i tried to use remove compiz by typing this command in the terminal: sudo apt-get remove compiz the terminal said that it has been removed but but it is still in the system>>preferences menu and the shift switcher still gets activated when i press the left mouse button.
