Ubuntu :: Compiz Configuration Gone Wrong / Get It To Work Proper?

I have accidentally configured compizconfigure settings manager to activate the shift switcher whenever i press the left mouse button. because of this now i cant do any work as the shift switcher is activated whenever i press the left mouse button
i tried to use remove compiz by typing this command in the terminal: sudo apt-get remove compiz the terminal said that it has been removed but but it is still in the system>>preferences menu and the shift switcher still gets activated when i press the left mouse button.

My first message on this forum, I'm a new comer in the Suse world (after 10 years of debian, ouch) I really like this distro so far. Fast, clean, simple. I got an "acess denied" issue with the apache configuration though. I've installed apache through yast and configured it with yast-http. Permissions are okay and a index.htm file is in the directory.
I won't ask for a direct answer cause everything can be found on the wiki. However, I'm surprised that configuration files are not erased when the related software is uninstalled. I've spent the afternoon trying to make it work so I guess the config files are spoiled right now. I tried to erase all the config file but can't find the yast-http ones, so it does not launch the wizard like the first time. yast-http also warns about my network ruled by NetworkManager, and that it could not run properly with it, how come?
I tried installing gnome-desktop, which wiped out /etc/resolv.conf (and ultimately failed to install). A comment was left in resolv.conf saying "do not edit..". Where is the proper place to list nameservers in debian?
Okay, so I just installed ubuntu alongside Windows 7, and it's saying wireless is disabled. I clicked "enable wireless," and the box has a check mark now, but it's still saying that wireless is disabled. I restarted my computer just to see if that'd do it, but it's still not working.
As said here: [URl] I want the sphere deformation, but that needs the PPA apparently (I can't find it anywhere in the default compiz Ubuntu 10.10 ships with.) Compiz starts, but it says it can't load plugin 'decoration.'

I'm having trouble getting compiz to work on my Laptop. It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?
Well why all my ips are getting the speed I mentioned in delay pool, even 192.168.0.134, as I have excluded it in delay pool. what is wrong with the configuration. I want 192.168.0.134 to get maximum speed available, while rest of the network goes with the mentioned speed.
I recently installed another Linux distro, Kali Linux, alongside my Debian 8 and discovered to my chagrin that my computer boots to Kali's grub rather than to the Debian grub. I had spent some time customizing Debian's grub and would hate to see that effort go to waste. Is there a way I can get my computer to boot to Debian's grub instead? I tried deleting Kali's boot partition with gparted but that did not seem to do anything.
Today I fresh installed the latest stable version of debian (jessie) with gnome from the USB DVD image for a 64bit machine. Everything got fine except the graphic driver, I think.
Now Gnome 3 is running but graphic is super slow. My previous debian/gnome 3 ran much better and I think there is a problem with the graphic driver.
I'm on an thinkpad t61.

Now the graphic is: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) which is likely wrong. If I'm not mistaken llvmpipe is pure slow software acceleration.
Moreover this was different on my previous debian (wheezy), which was faster. Anyway I don't know what " Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) " is and it was for sure different in wheezy.
According to apt-get I have the latest intel graphic divers installed. So maybe this an X-org confic problem?
A couple of days ago I asked why my pc changes the wireless card name.It switches between AR9285 ( right) and AR5008 ( wrong). Well, it is not the case. When system identified with AR9285,it loads ath9k and I can connect to the router. When system identifies my card as AR5008, no kernel module is present at all ( lspci -k). The wrong card name occurs only when system rebooted. If I gracefully shut down the system, it always comes up with a right name for the card( AR9285). So, how to force the system identify my card right no matter if I reboot or shut down?
I've been working on the setup of a FTP server on my Debian system for the whole afternoon. But I can't get it straight! Normally I get it working in just a second, but it's been a while I guess.
I installed only proftpd-basic and it's default dependencies. Should be enough right?
My configuration files are as follows:
I created the user zeitgeist, gave it a password, group and a homedir. Group of the user is nogroup and the homedir is correct with the 755 permission. My port 21 for FTP is open I tested it with nmap -p 21 [ip-address].
My Filezilla client tells me that at first he is connecting, then the connection is established, And then the connection is closed by server.
Using Debian 5.0 Stable, with all current updates, if I type \192.168.0.249 I get samba access and can use all the shared files ok.if I go via the network the computer should be called \squ-eee-zeboxserver but instead comes up as \SQU-EEE-ZEBOXSERsqu-eee-zeboxserver which when clicked gives the attached error.
I've got a strage problem with openssh-server on debian lenny. I've done setup of sshd and basically everything works fine. I can check the fingerprint of the ssh-keys on the server and it matches with the fingerprint shown on the client for the first connection. so the key is stored in the known-hosts-file on the client.
The problem occurs after a "connection reset by peer" (i guess when the connected client goes to sleep or a timeout occures)!
After such a reset, when I try to connect to the server, the banner "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!" appears and the shown fingerprint of the server-key is totally wrong (it differs from the one on the server, BUT it is everytime when this problem occurs the same fingerprint). If I nevertheless remove the correct key from the known-host-file and accept the new key, I still can't login (permission denied).
To fix this situation temporarily I just need to restart the networking on the server. After the network-restart I get (again) the correct fingerprint of the server-key and can login without problems. Until the next connection reset.
At the moment I am having a problem with the MySQL server on my VPS. It's a completely fresh install of both Debian 5 and MySQL but the problem is upon logging in I get:

Hey guys. I have a client computer PXE booting from my host computer and it is supposed to give the client the ip address 172.16.0.100 however instead it gives it the ip address 172.16.0.208.
I have this set up working with two other computers and there is no noticeable difference other than mac addresses for the network card.

I have quadruple checked the mac address of the client and it is definitely "00:07:E9:32:16:81" so why is it not giving it the IP address that I have specified?
Installed 6.01a from DVD 1 on a system with 4GB ram. Installer installed amd64 version by default. When I try to install amd64.deb files I get "wrong architecture" error messages from the package manager. root@Laptop-RalphDeb:/home/ralphq# uname -r 2.6.32-5-amd64 root@Laptop-RalphDeb:/home/ralphq# uname -p unknown Why I can install amd64 programs and why I get unknown for the uname -p command?
I encountered a problem when I am trying to access my phpmyadmin the error came up: Wrong permissions on configuration file, should not be world writable!
as my laptop is getting older and slower, I deactivated the nice window effects. System -> propieries -> appereance -> no effects.But Ubuntu reactives them after the next reboot!Is there any configuration file or do I have to uninstall compiz-core complete?
I noticed, that the "official" Compiz-Configuration-Tool is not functionable. I change the properties of some effects, and even after reboot, no change can be seen.Then there is the tiny Fedora-Compiz-Tool. The settings I'm setting here are applied immediately.Is that a normal behaviour? Could it be that the official Compiz-Config-Tool is not compatible with the Fedora-Compiz?
I've been searching for an hour or so and can't seem to find a concrete answer. My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine. This is a powerful card - I know ATI doesn't have a great reputation in the Linux world but I really hope there is a driver version I can install to get some good results.The rest of my specs are in my signature I need to install 64 bit Ubuntu to make use all of the system and video ram.
Running a Eee 1005HA netbook that has an Intel 945 GMA. Yes, I am in Lucid. First, I tried turning on the desktop effects. I did this the way Ubuntu intends, by going through Appearance Preferences, going to the Visual Effects tab, and selecting the Normal option. My screen went black, the option is ticked, but there are obviously no effects in place.
So I go to a terminal, type in "compiz", and I get this:

This netbook is more than capable of handling compiz, especially with the RAM upgrade.
Turns out I've been out of the loop too long and xorg.conf doesn't exist anymore ever since 9.04 (or 10?). So now I don't even know how to tell xorg to use the intel graphics. I've ran glxgears and it runs at about 1415 FPS in 5 seconds. glxinfo | grep rendering says direct rendering is on.
EDIT: Well, turns out it's a dual monitor problem. I'm not connected to the other monitor and compiz is working quiet well for the netbook... kind of wish it would work with two monitors though
actually installed it for the second time of my life (gave it a try more) just yesterday.It works brilliant.The only problem I have is with the animations in Compiz. I got the CompizConfig Setting Manager and I'm operating from there.It wont work.I have installed my graphics driver, and the other effects work properly
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a flash drive along with Compiz for the eye catching effects. Everything works fine on my home IBM and (a rather newer) Dell. When I try to boot from the usb at school it works fine on our Acer computers, but on the Dells we have I get an error message after the Ubuntu splash screen. However, after the error message Ubuntu loads up, but Compiz doesn't work (A few examples are I can't do ctrl + alt + click for the cube, windows special effects like burn don't work, or anything else Compiz related).
Is this simply because of the Dell's hardware (like it doesn't have a strong enough graphics card?) or is it something I could change to make it work? (Ubuntu version, boot order, or something like that?) I know I am lacking a lot of details as to what type of Dell it is and the exact error message, but I will supply these in a day if needed.
