Ubuntu :: How To Change Splash Image / Don't Mention Anything About Enabling It

I have installed backtrack4 on my laptop with windows7, and installed grub2.I am having a problem on showing a splash screen.I don't have a splash screen that shows neither on grub2 nor grub legacy.I have searched too many tutorials, but I don't know what's the problem, because all of them shows how to change the splash image, but don't mention anything about enabling it.Note that the live cd loads an image.So I don't think it's my vga or something.
I want to change the image that is presented to the user when i choose operating system on startup eg back.jpg i have looked at tutorials and no luck i am running gnome on 11.3.
How do I do that ? Currently I have Kubuntu/Mint KDE installed as my main and only OS so the GRUB splash is disabled by default, how do I enable that (so I'm able to change the boot commands to go to single user mode).?

I wanted to know if the plain blue image of grub screen can be changed to a saved image. that is customize the grub splash screen and how can we do it. I am using Fedora 13 and gnome. though i think gnome should not make a difference since it is after boot.
For those who wish to change the default login splash background in fedora 14, the offending graphics are to be found in /usr/share/backgrounds/laughlin/default.
Step 1 is to add your preferred ping image alongside the laughlin.png in whichever directory your monitor uses. I am apparently "normalish" so I put my background there. 1280x1024 RGB.
Step 2 - edit the "laughlin.xml" file in the "default" directory, replacing "laughlin.png" with the name of the file you added above.
To get the proper dimensions for an image, you can load laughlin.png into the GIMP and read Image/Properties. While there, you could erase the contents of the image and replace with your own, similar to rinsing out your mouth. Then spit.
If you use a graphic from outside fedora, don't forget to run restorecon on the file, or else SELinux won't allow gdm to display it.
Upon boot up the usual little mouse splash boot is suppose to come up. Once I first installed it (10.10 via usb) the boot screen worked perfectly but after I updated via the update manager the boot splash became all static and green lines across the image. It still boots up to the login screen but it's just ugly looking at it.
I decided to finally change the grub 1.98 splash image today and found a few tutorials on how to do so. They all pretty much said the same thing. Resize an image to 640 x 480, save it as a .tga, stick it in /boot/grub/images/desktop-base. I did so and opened /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme and changed WALLPAPER="/usr/share/images/desktop-base/moreblue-orbit-grub.{png,tga}" to WALLPAPER="/usr/share/images/desktop-base/56871.{png,tga}". After that I ran update-grub. When it told me the image it found, it said it found desktop-grub. I don't know what I did wrong but it's not finding my image. Like an idiot I forgot to back up the original file but the only thing I changed was that WALLPAPER line, like I said. I had copied that version of the file and pasted it in another document before messing around with different parts of the file to see if I could get it to work. Everything ended in failure so I copied the back up in the other document and simply pasted it over the one I had been tinkering with. However, when I try to update grub I get a syntax error which I didn't before with the exact file I have now. The error reads:
/etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme: 65: Syntax error: end of file unexpected (expecting "}")

I'm completely lost at this point, both on how to actually change the splash image and why I'm getting a syntax error.
I upgraded my lappy to FC10 and I boot to console mode. The blue sun image comes up there, I can get rid of it by hitting escape a couple of times but I want to disable it completely. It's messing up my desire to boot with the framebuffer.
I need some help in determining how to have a color splash image display in place of the Linux scrolling-text during the boot-up process on an embedded Linux device. The kernel used is a stripped-down version of Linux (kernel 2.6.29), which has been custom configured. I am using syslinux as the bootloader. I was told that Plymouth might be the way to go with this, but I'm not sure.
I would like to change my startup image (usplash image). For that i change /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu_logo.png and /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu_logo16.png. Then the splash screen of shutdown screen changes .But booting screen doesnot change.
I'm working on a project to have our company logo image display on the screen during bootup. Our platform is an embedded Linux device running on a custom configured linux kernel 2.6.38.2. Our development distro is Ubuntu 10.04. I am currently trying to get fbsplash to work on our device with no luck so far.
I have poured over many forums and countless posts on how to do this and i cant seem to get it,i have been trying for the past 8 hrs to change the splash screen in my ubuntu 10.04 lts lucid lynx,i have installed startup manager and splash screen and have tried using those to edit my splash screen to no avail i have no idea what im doing wrong
I finally broke down and upgraded to Lucid since Intrepid reached "end of life", but I liked Intrepid's Ubuntu startup splash screen much better. Is there any way to get that back in Lucid?
Why is so damm hard to change the splash screen in ubuntu 10.10? Like what's up with that anyways? I've tried like 10 different solutions and not a single one works, I really need this to finish my thin client, it really important that I be able to change the splash screen.
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on my Gateway LT3103u. I noticed shortly into using it that it has a graphics bug every so often. Especially when I change the background image. Everything will change to a warped mix of colors and pixels. Everything is affected. My mouse, the bar at the top of the screen, text and all. My netbook runs on an AMD Athlon 64-bit processor with ATI Radeon X1270 HyperMemory up to 256MB graphics.
So far I have tried reinstalling, and even the 64bit desktop edition which had the same problem. Ive noticed that it freaks out when i scroll too quick, when changing background images, and on certain websites. Then other times its completely random. When it happens it looks similar to these: [URL]
I have Ubuntu 9.10 and I want to replace the splash screen with the white Ubuntu logo and the marquee progress bar with that of Xubuntu with those whirling sparkles.
Ran update manager and install some updates. After it asked me to reboot, I received the following message before splash: "mountall could not connect to plymouth", and the splash screen now says "mythbuntu". What?
I'd like to change the boot splash screen from the current 'Xubuntu' text in white on a black background.Making changes in Settings->Xfce 4 Setting Manager->Session and Startup has had no effect, and Startup Manager does not display an option to change the splash. I feel I'm missing something obvious here, but where should I be looking?
I have a Dell dimension 8300 dual booting with windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10. I installed BURG on it since I didnt like the text grub style. Problem is I cant change the splash screen no matter what I do, or changes I make. My screen resolution is 1280x1024 and my video card is an Nvidia card.
Originally the splash screen was a purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and some dots on it. After installing the plymouth themes, now it has changed to a blue screen with Kubuntu(?) on it... Id like to know whats wrong and how can I change the splash screen?
UPDATE: Ok I went to synaptic and saw plymouth.kubuntu-logo and kubuntu-text were installed and enabled (had litle ubuntu logo to the side). So I removed those 2 files then did a reboot. Now im back to the purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and the dots but I still cant change the splash screen...
I have been working/implementing LTSP based thin clients now using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32bit server. I intend to change the default purple Ubuntu splash. I have already removed the "quiet splash" parameters in the pxeconfig file. And it works, giving me a text boot. But what i needed was a replacement for the splash.
I'd like to announce the release of cmus 2.3.0 here. cmus 2.3.0 features gapless MP3 playback, native PulseAudio output plugin (which cures all the problems with PA ALSA emulation present in 2.2.0), very fast metadata cache and much improved compilations handling.

I am trying to change the splash screen (Lucid 10.4) on an encrypted drive (cryptpo LUKS)
I've used to gimp to modify the png files in /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo (both ubuntu_logo.png and ubuntu_logo16.pgn).
These changes show up when the machine is shutting down, but not when it boots (I get the same Ubuntu splash screen that allows me to enter the encryption password). I'm guessing because I'm using an encrypted drive that the plymouth theme and images are stored in an encrypted partition ....maybe /dev/sda1?
Could someone confirm this, or suggest how to change the splash screen for 10.4 if using drive encryption?
