I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When I boot up I see this:

in a very low resolution
At the login screen and on the desktop my resolution is 1680 x 1080
Is there a way to make the splash screen that resolution as well?
I tried to fix splash screen resolution on boot up in 10.04 from instructions I found on the net. I updated lines in grub. Now when I boot I see the dual boot menu but hit linux i just get a black screen. I can't get into my system from there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I know now that I reach the login screen, and I know to hit control, alt, f1. However, all attempts to reset the resolution have failed. Here's how it went down. I was working with nvidia driver. Already was frustrated I couldn't get a working wide screen setting for my toshiba hd tv/monitor but that's a seperate issue. I was trying to get the driver to recognize my separate monitor to an hd tv in the living room using the video out. works fine with windows. I got it to recognize, it made me save settings, and then restart. Note resolution settings are set to automatic right now. Then when I restart, I get to ubuntu splash screen, it plays the chime, and shows a blank black screen. Control alt f1 brings me the menu.
I have been told to type (this is just quick type, I used the proper commands in reality)
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phighxserver - xorg
xrandr --output lvds --mode 1024x768
I found one article that gave a three step process.
sudo cp /etc/x11/xorg.conf / etc/x11/xorg.conf.custom
sudo sh -c 'md5sum ' etc'/x11/xorg.conf > /var/lib/x11/xorg.conf.md5sum'
sudo dpk-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
Nothing gave me any of the results I expected from command doesn't exist to completely irrelevant menus. Start me from the beginning to what I should do. Yes I logged in properly with my username and password to. Do the 'etc' in the command need to be filled with something else like a drive letter or something. I'm so lost, should I disconnect my tv? Also I tried running in safe mode and it said something about display not found.
i changed the boot up resolution in the boot up loader to 1366*768 (native res of my monitor) the boot option is still set to quiet splash however, instead of showing the progress bar, it would now always display the complete boot up log ( the list of starting services and such) i then manually changed the boot option from to 1024*768 at boot loader screen, and teh splash would show up, but then on next boot up if i stick with 1366*768, it doesnt work again

This morning my screen has the bottom part of in black there are the KDE docky ,firefox ,terminal & rhythmbox icons ,so is the taskbar..but the wallpaper is cut up ,4cm off. I have noticed that the splash screens res has changed too. It's sharper (smaller). The browser as a consequence is also half lit & having noscript in the bottom without it being visible is a problem. Why has this happened & how can I fix it. The last working config, well that's somewhere else.

Originally the splash screen was a purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and some dots on it. After installing the plymouth themes, now it has changed to a blue screen with Kubuntu(?) on it... Id like to know whats wrong and how can I change the splash screen?
UPDATE: Ok I went to synaptic and saw plymouth.kubuntu-logo and kubuntu-text were installed and enabled (had litle ubuntu logo to the side). So I removed those 2 files then did a reboot. Now im back to the purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and the dots but I still cant change the splash screen...

I've used to gimp to modify the png files in /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo (both ubuntu_logo.png and ubuntu_logo16.pgn).
These changes show up when the machine is shutting down, but not when it boots (I get the same Ubuntu splash screen that allows me to enter the encryption password). I'm guessing because I'm using an encrypted drive that the plymouth theme and images are stored in an encrypted partition ....maybe /dev/sda1?
Could someone confirm this, or suggest how to change the splash screen for 10.4 if using drive encryption?

In my case they are not resetting. I would expect them to revert to the default black/white you get when initially installing the OS. the Grub timeout to be a lot less than its supposed to be? e.g. the default timeout setting of 5 seconds is more like 2 or 3 in reality, and when I set my prefered value to 2 seconds it results in being about 1/4 sec or so.

Sometimes ill get random command lines mixed in with the usual splash, sometimes the splash wont show and it will just be black till the desktop appears, sometimes it flashes on and off. I originally tried fixing the resolution and just made the problem worse. Then I tried installing a new splash via gnome-look.org, but it just made my shut-down splash blank and didnt effect my splash at startup. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running 64 bit Ubuntu, and on the start-up after I pass the GRUB it goes blank for a minute then briefly shows the splash for 5-10 secs and then jumps to the login screen. Also the screen is offset by about 10-15 pixels but from the login screen onwards it is centred. (It's also like this for if I'm in recovery mode)

My screen resolution doesn't have an option higher than 800x600, so everything looks super zoomed in. Other threads tell me to edit xorg.conf, which I did (probably incorrectly). The result was the computer had mega problems when I restarted it, and when it finally got back to the desktop it didn't give me any other options for screen resolution. Also it says I'm in low graphics mode.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my desktop pc from 10.04 to 10.10 and ran into a tad of trouble. After I attempted to login from the GDM, something caused the system to crash and return to the GDM. So, I got my laptop out, did some googling, and decided to delete ~/.config/monitors.xml to try and reset the resolution. That got me to the Desktop, at which point I was greeted by more display issues.
The point at which the computer normally goes idle seems to crash and return it to the GDM as well. Needless to say, I disabled the idling/password prompt setting to prevent crashes every five minutes. Anyway, the prevailing problem is that I can't change the resolution itself -- as that seems to cause the same issue.

I cannot get my screen resolution to change from 1600x1200. This is a new install of Ubuntu 10.10 and the desired option ( 1024x768 ) is listed under System/Preferences/Monitors. Changing the resolution and clicking Apply results in a screen refresh, but the resolution remains at 1600x1200.

I recently installed Ubuntu Studio and after an update the standard Plymouth splash screen began to show. I tried changing it back via the "sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth" method but I am getting a blue kbuntu splash screen instead of the ubuntu studio splash.

The OS is not recognizing the fact the laptop can do 1024x768. I've been searching the net for a few hours to fix the problem and I'm not getting anywhere.
