View 4 RepliesI tried running Ubuntu Linux 9.10 on my computer directly from the CD, without installing, and when it had finished loading neither the keyboard nor the mouse would work. I got a message saying that restricted drivers had been blocked. I can't press what I think to be the unblock command because both the keyboard and mouse had been blocked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a big problem after i installed the ATI proprietary drivers. I expected something weird to happen when using proprietary stuff, but I did not expect them to stop my touchpad from functioning
I've been running sid on that laptop for ages and followed the guide on the Debian wiki and installed: "apt-get install linux-headers-2.6-$(uname -r | sed 's,.*-,,') fglrx-control fglrx-driver". This worked like a charm and the module got compiled OK. I then rebooted the computer (couldn't restart Xorg, the screen went black for some reason, but that's not the issue here) but when the kernel started it dumped a lot of udev errors concerning libsane. It booted up OK though, but when i tried to log in i couldn't use my keyboard or my touchpad. My external keyboard and mouse worked, but i had to disconnect them and connect them again to get them working. I suspect that the laptop keyboard and touchpad are connected by usb internally, but they are tricky to disconnect and reconnect
I then did a "apt-get remove" on all those packages installed and also an "apt-get install --reinstall" on the kernel. But I still have the same problem. I suspect that dkms did something bad, but I can't figure out what to remove or reinstall to get around this problem. I also tried to remove libsane, since udev dumped a lot of error messages, but I don't understand what the connection is there (except of course that udev is used for the keyboard and touchpad)
I also don't suspect the "unstableness" of sid to be the problem here. Rather something I haven't removed or reinstalled.
Does anyone have an idea about what I can do to revert this? I really don't want to reinstall the laptop.
Edit: Just, to sum it up. The real question here is: "How do I get rid of all the mess that ATI proprietary driver caused and installed?"
Which configuration options would I need to select to build the correct drivers/modules for my usb mouse and ps/2 keyboard? The mouse is a Microsoft 1.1A Optical (Compatible with USB or PS/2 but plugged into usb port) and the keyboard is just a no name chinese one. BTW i am running Gentoo and linux 2.6.32-gentoo-rc7
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have installed VMWare server 2 on a windows XP host. Then I installed Suse 11.2 on the VMWare server. For the most part everything seems to be working Ok. However, the key board will type two letters with every keystroke. I have used the the accessibility options to force a hack fix (slow keys). Also, the host pointer looses synchronization with the guest. Simple fix, running it off the screen forces VM to synchronize.
I have managed to find work around solutions, but overall it is annoying and effects my productivity (IE Ctrl+C takes about 2 seconds to register!!!). I would like to find better solutions. So I am looking for advice on how I could address these issues, I need advice on two methods:
1) Assuming the problems are within Linux, I will need to tweak/change the drivers for my mouse and keyboard, how would I do that?
2) Assuming the problem is with VMWare Tools, I will need to tweak/update the tools. Now, I have noticed that Suse has their own custom setup for the tools. Thus the documentation for tweaking the tools doesn't apply (ie cannot find vmware-tools-config.pl). So how would I go about playing with that side of things?
3) Ruled out the problem being with VMWare itself. Whenever I run the system in command line mode, or in the graphical installer, the keyboard works fine. It is only within KDE that the problems arise. Thus it is either X-Windows/KDE or the VMWare tools layer that is causing the problem. So my next question, is there a way of turning components off and on to narrow in on what component is causing the problem?

I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Karmic beta and I'm having issues with getting my wireless driver to work. When I was using 9.04 and when I booted 9.10 from a CD, I could just go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and activate a wireless driver and everything would be just peachy. The problem is that, in the install of 9.10 beta, no drivers appear when I load the Hardware Drivers GUI, so I can't get wireless internet.
Is there anything I can do besides wait a few days for the full release of 9.10 and hope that solves the issue?
Computer: Toshiba Satellite Pro L510 laptop, 10.10.This has always happened but I have gotten around it by time-out and putting my menu.list in order. When I first boot the machine (switch on for the day from computer being off) I get to the grub options to select a kernel and I have no keyboard. No up/down arrows so have to go with the kernel on top of the list (not always desirable).
When I get to the log-in screen if I hit restart and go back to the grub screen I have a keyboard and can select any kernel. If I login to the kernel I have full keyboard, no problem. If I then restart, I have keyboard at the grub list.
Nutshell: It is only when starting the computer fresh that the keyboard is dead at grub menu (and then only). Any time after that, once the computer has been switched on, if I restart I have keyboard at grub menu and can select different kernels. (Of course, if I switch the computer off and back on again, no keyboard ...)

I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).
When I use the down arrow on my new keyboard it also does and enter key as well. When I use the left and right arrow keys and hold them it doesn't keep going. It just clicks once and I have to pressing it over and over again. Any one know the correct settings to setup my keyboard? It's a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard.
