i used the Script to download/compile Flightgear 2.0 everything works fine, except i cant seem to get online works great on Windows and OSX im using FGRUN and the normal settings DONT WORK im pulling my hair out trying to get online

I'm following the instructions here, to compile OpenSceneGraph that I got on DVDs purchased from Curtis Olsen. The instruction for this step goes like this.

Few days ago I did a major update to Jessie and now I can't use Flightgear simulator. The screen freezes and cannot even switch to another terminal using CTRL+ALT+F1. I can SSH from another machine and see that the CPU is stuck and it has to do with X.org. I bet it's a video driver issue that came with the update.
Did some memory, SSD and video card tests from within Windows and it passed. Flightgear can be loaded on Windows without freezing.
The PC has an integrated Radeon HD 4250 graphics card.
Tried dpkg-reconfigure firmware-linux-nonfree. Flightgear can start but it freezes after a short while. Same happens if I reinstall that package. Without the nonfree driver, I have very low FPS but it works.
Also, I put in another Radeon card (almost same generation) and had the same result: computer freezes completely.
Solved it by upgrading to kernel 4.4. This proves that a bug has been introduced with the latest kernel update. And it tastes like Ubuntu when they break drivers...
It will not get network connectivity at all recently. Can't ping, can't browse, no Samba, nothing.I've checked my IP, mask, gateway, broadcast, network, and DNS settings and they're correct. I've restarted networking, restarted the machine, nothing. I've replaced the network card with a different brand and interface, nothing.As I stated before, this is a NAS, so network connectivity is needed. It's running Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit desktop.

A ping based solution is ok but i need things like returning 0 for pc not connected to internet and 1 otherwise.
i had ubuntu 9.10 and updated to 10.04. i also removed WIN while in process of upgrading, anyhow, now pc will not allow me to get online. i did not unplug anything when i upgraded pc, not until after i realized i could no longer get online did i change the ethernet cable, and remove the router (both of which failed).
i have looked to see if i needed to install something extra to be able to get back online, but so far i haven't found a site stating that i need another package to get online.
my problem: i am using unbuntu 9.10 on a dell 1420 inspiron laptop. i wanted to uprage to the new version of linux "lynx" . while i was doing that a problem occurred while downloading the new packages. It said that what i have already downloaded would be saved but i had to restart the download--so far no real problem. When i restarted my computer, wicd wanted to access my internet card interface, or something like that, and asked for my password, i gave it, and then wicd said it couldnt connect to my internet card and i needed to check the wicd error log. everytime i restart my computer i go through the same process and always end up with NO INTERNET CONNECTION WHATSOEVER, not just wireless, wired connections dont work.
i hope that was clear. the reason i was upgrading to lynx was because wicd had problems in the first place, but now i cant get on the net in any way with my laptop--so how do i fix the problem? should i burn an iso of the new linux and then stick that on my machine to uprgade? or is there another way. The main goal of mine is to have a laptop with linux that can wirelessly access the internet.
If i didnt provide enough info, i'm sorry(i'm young, but computers are pretty baffling sometimes) or if you want me to do something i can post the results, but i dont know any codes and can't find the error log for wicd.

i changed the res to 800x600 and attempted to load eve, the splash window loads up and then nothing, the splash window dissapears and i am left with the background of the WINE UI (in which case i cannot close the wine window either) i then attempted to find out my graphics card and i cannot find it using

I downloaded Xubuntu-desktop and wicd and it now has a lot of software on it. It connects to the internet easily with a wired connection, but I cannot get it to find an ip address on my unencrypted home wireless network...it does see my network, though.I don't see the name of the hardware when I type sudo lspci. How can I find what chipset I have for my wireless device? A how to get online wirelessly?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble getting online, and therefore getting software, codecs etc, (I'm using another computer for this post) because the only option I have to connect to the web is through 56k dial-up modem, and this is apparently akward with ubuntu. I'm currently trying to work out how to get Ubuntu to recognize my modem. I have over-written Vista, which was previously on my laptop, although I did make recovery discs (though I really don't want to have to use them).
This is making it difficult for me to even find the model of my modem (it would involve reinstalling Vista and checking for the device under device manager, or Vista equivalent).I was advised to download the "Official Ubuntu documentation", and that this had a 'how to' section regarding dial-up modems. I downloaded it and searched it and found nothing as such. I also have downloaded the Ubuntu pocket guide and found nothing on the topic in it either.I can get online (via dial-up) on my XP machine, and also have USB storage sticks.
I am using Ubuntu 9.10, but I can't view the video from CNBC or Bloomberg. I wonder if I need to install Adobe Flash in order for it to work. If not, which software should I install?

I haven't used it since then, until today, when I took the ethernet cord out of my laptop and stuck in in the desktop. The light next to the place you plug the cord in came on and Ubuntu tried to connect, but eventually it just said "You are now disconnected." I restarted and it continued to do this. I plugged the ethernet cord into the laptop and now I am online. What is going on here??

After installing 10.04 netbook remix on my acer aspire one, I have experienced all sorts of trouble. I can't get online, not with the wireless network, or with a usb-cable directly from the router. When I try to install the hardware drivers i get a message: there are no hardware drivers installed or something like that. There are no other OS on the harddrive, just 10.04 netbook remix. Another problem is the startup. Sometimes it boots right away, other times I've have to restart/reboot. 3-4 times before it works. How comes? Is there any way to download the missing packages/firmware to a usb-stick and then install it on the the netbook?

Move into BIOS to look around but left everything as "Default".The F header is connected, DVD lights up, power off and on, all fans are also running. The cooler fan, two additional case fans, and the fan on the GForce video card are also running. burned an ISO of 11.04, and as the screen placed it in DVD drive, hit a key and got a request to "Insert Boot Media and hit a key, and hit a key.Can't get passed the request. I am in charge of the computers at a school for mainly american students who are studying in my country, the school wants to enable them to watch the superbowl, tehy gave me a page with system requirements which seemed to suggest that it was just a flash movie player.
However when actually browsing to the demo I was confronted with an OS warning, at first I thought it was just a "stupid" me message like Yahoo-mail telling you that they haven't tested the rich version on your OS, but when browsing there with useragent set to winXP it turns out that you need the "MoveMediaPlayer". If left with no choice I guess I will install it together with firefox in wine, but I'd much rather have a different solution, also does anyone know if this player works well in wine?
I have a Dell Mini 10v running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 (with latest flash), and everything is fine with it, except for online videos. Whenever I try to watch one, CPU usage gets around 100% and the videos start lagging.
