Ubuntu :: Extract Bootable CD Into A Bootable ISO?
Mar 4, 2010
I own a legit Windows XP Home CD, with time its getting more scratches so I want to make an ISO backup. I tried Brasero but the ISO it creates doesn't seem to be bootable. I don't mind using GUI programs, but I'd prefer to know the command line programs to learn more .
creating a bootable floppy from a bootable floppy image on a NON Linux machine I am trying to install dsl (damnsmallLinux) on one of my old Compaq 2000 Deskpro machine having 256RAM and 2 GB hardisk. (which I hope to increase to 8 or 10 GB ...can I use a larger disk capacity??) I have downloaded the floppy bootable image from the website using a machine a fedora OS machine that does not have a floppy drive. I have even converted the image file to an iso file. I can copy this image file or iso file to the Compaq machine but how do I use it as a bootable floppy? OR how do I create a bootable floppy disk from this image?
I have a cdrom (bootable) that I want to copy over to a usb stick, and have THAT boot the system (Adding other files to it before hand) I know it's easy, but how? I've already made a iso of the cdrom.
How can i copy my G4L bootable CD into a partition, so thar i can boot from it, and not use the CD anymore? The idea is based in the fact that i am so lazy ... that opening/closing the CD is getting on my nerves
If I dd copy a bootable usb drive to an iso will the iso be bootable?
I haven't tried it yet, but i'm going to. Heres the situation and tell me if I'm crazy.
I have several bootable CDs I use at work to do different things, so I went ahead and made a multi-boot usb stick with the isos on them and everything is golden. When i need something else, I am able to slap the ISO on the usb stick, edit the menu.lst and I'm good to go.
The problem is, for some of our equipment I have a bootable USB stick that I have to use. I tried copying the files on the bootable USB to my multi-boot usb and setup grub to boot it (which admittedly I'm no expert at), but have had no luck.
So now I'm thinking, I'll use dd to copy the bootable USB stick to an iso (using bs=2048) and then do my normal setup with an ISO and maybe it will work.
I have slackware on a bootable flash drive, and the pc onto which I want to install slack won't boot from a flash drive. So how do I burn a bootable set of CDs from my flash drive?
I need to install fedora on my new 16 DELL servers. I will doing it through DRAC (Dell remote access console) but DRAC can mount only one ISO at a time. I am planning to do multiple installations at the same time.hence i need multiple boot.iso files for each and every DRAC console that I open for each server. The question is...How to extract just the bootable part from the fedora DVD? I don't whether it should be called boot.iso, but I hope you get my point.I believe it has got something to do with the "isolinux" folder on the DVD, but I don't know what and how.
I have managed to install Ubuntu on an 8GB USB flash drive using the usb creator, it boots up well no problem though it does seem to stop and idle a bit in the middle of the booting process.I noticed that after installation I only have about 2GB of free space left, how much is Ubuntu chewing?!!!
I'd like to create a bootable Ubuntu system that doesn't take up that much space, and doesn't prompt me with liveCD stuff (ie. country, installation methods etc). I was thinking of Moblin remix. I'd like the more basic Ubuntu configuration with the default device drivers to hook up to the internet, display and peripheral devices but not all the software if that would keep the size down.
I am on XP and just bought myself a eeePC but the USB installer method at [URL] site doesn't work for me. Any other alternate image writing utility that will transfer .iso image to my 4GB USB drive?
I know how to make a bootable Ubuntu disk on a USB but I want to know how can I make a windows cd bootable on a usb using Ubuntu. I only have Ubuntu installed on my computer but I want to make a small partition with Windows XP in it and I have the Windows XP CD and ISO but I dont know how to make a bootable USB in Ubuntu...
I loaded 9.04 on my laptop, worked fine. Then upgraded to 9.10, worked fine. Then upgraded to 10.04 and would not boot. Tried to load 10.04 again with cd but would not recognize the drive then tried again to load 9.04 by cd and it took literally 30 boot attempts before it started. Now I am back to 9.04 on my laptop. How to load a bootable 10.04?
I have made a usb ubuntu bootable memory stick following ubuntu instructions, using startup disk creator, i used a fresh burnt cd with correct md5 checksum, 32 bit desktop 386i created the key with 4 gb persistence area, the key is 8Gb corsair. I have made keys before successfully. Ive tried several attempts and I even tried using iso image in windows with the software to create the key as per ubuntu instructions. Every time the key makes successfully. Then this happens
I put usb key in pc, boot, it starts to boot ubuntu, it gets as far as ubuntu logo with 5 dots scanning across and stays at this point. I just hit F1 and got this message.
Quote:(process:411) Glib - Warning ** : getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0) Stdin:error 0
Im not an expert but that looks like something to do with passwords???
I am trying to make Ubuntu 11.04 USB using Arh linux I downloaded the CD iso and dd'ed it to the USB, it does not work How to make it using the 'normal' liunx tools (dd etc) and not the GUI USB maker ?
I just downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 while using the 8.10 live cd. I was planning to burn it to a disc, but I forgot all about the live cd issue. So is there anyway I can burn Ubuntu 9.04 without having to download it to a real os. Or can I make a bootable usb with the live cd of 8.10.
I am running ubuntu 9.10 on my pc, trying to update the bios on a thinkpad a31. I'm trying to create a bootable iso disk from the downloaded file from ibm (spsuiv69.exe) it is currently sitting on my desktop.
To be clear - I am having trouble making the .exe file an iso. I read this is the best way to update bios on a linux machine, if there are better ideas - whatever works.
My boyfriend has an old IBM Thinkpad that he said I can use to install Ubuntu on and use it as a 2nd computer. Here's the problem, the computer doesn't have a CD drive, but does have USB. I've been trying to get a bootable USB drive created, but with no luck.
The USB drive is 2GB. Which Ubuntu would fit on here? The Thinkpad has a 20GB hard drive, and about 512MB memory. The processor I think is a Pentium III. I've even tried installing Ubuntu through the wubi.exe file, but it won't load. The current OS is a Japanese Windows 98. Do I need a bigger flash drive? The netbook remix version? or something else?
I lose my W7 DVD a couple of times and im tired of making DVDs when i can just create a Bootable USB but the only thing wrong is that i know of ...you can only create Ubuntu USB in Ubuntu.... In Windows you can create a Windows USB with progrmas and UBuntu as well... SO since windows can make multiple USB bootable... Does Ubuntu have a Program that will allow me to Create a Bootable Windows 7 USB?
I need to install windows on my netbook in order to run some programs I need for school. I currently have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on here and am trying to make a bootable windows 7 usb. How I can do this?
I just installed it on my laptop after having enough of crappy Windows. I'm looking to install Ubuntu on to my USB drive. I want to be able to boot from my USB drive and use it as if I was booting from a normal HDD.I also need the whole USB drive to be encrypted with a strong encryption algorithm. Is it possible to do this? I've tried using Google and found a couple of ways, some suggested using Unetbootin.Would would be the best way to go about this? Also is the encryption system with Ubuntu install strong? It doesn't give you the ability to chose the algorithm like TrueCrypt does.
