Is there a Ubuntu email app (free or retail, doesn't matter) that will read in the Outlook Inbox/Sent/Contacts?
We have a really old computer with 10 years of Outlook business mail on it, and would like to switch it over to Ubuntu (no dual boot).
I'm running Evolution 2.28.3 on the latest Lucid. I tried importing an Outlook pst file. Evolution obviously leads one to believe it CAN do this, otherwise why would it allow one to choose a pst file, then recognize it as an Outlook file, and give one the option of choosing which portions to import (i.e. mail, contacts, calendar, etc)?
So the first time I chose mail, contacts, calendar, and tasks. It seems to have imported mail and calendar correctly, but NOTHING happened in tasks and contacts (contacts being very important). So I tried again, this time ONLY choosing to import contacts. It went through the whole pst file again. NO contacts still. While it seems not to have duplicated email messages the second go around (and it shouldn't have), it DID duplicate all calendar items (even though I ONLY checked "contacts"). UGH!
It's one thing for it not to have a capability, but to make a person believe it CAN import all those things, then screw it all up, ... well, that's highly irritating.
I am asking for a template, not for an instruction how to do it. What I need is a mapping from [0‥91] (Outlook CSV) to [0‥44] (KAddressBook CSV).
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is the one thing I just haven't been able to find in Linux land. I've tried kontact, evolution, etc and none have really give the results I can use. I use a half sheet (half 8.5x11) size day planner and use MS Outlook to print my contacts in two column format with custom field choices. I print double sided on 8.5x11 paper, cut the sheet in half and I have a nice, compact address book that fits in my DayRunner day planner.

3. Import contacts to new table, u can delete unwanted columns from this table. Now export this table to a csv file.

I am thinking of installing a Linux mail server and use it for my company. We are about 3 people that using emails and i do not want do spend a significant amount to get an exchange server. However, i need a mail server that i will be able to get the functionality that exchange server provides such as emails (to my mobile, web access, and using outlook client), calendar, tasks and contacts. Can you reccomend me which Linux mail server should i use for all the above functionality?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running GNOME under Lucid on a 64-bit machine. Here's the background: Yesterday, I tried to delete a subfolder of my Local Folders directory. Right-clicking on the subfolder offered the usual menu of options including "Delete", but selecting "Delete" left the folder in place. In floundering around trying things to solve the problem, I tried opening Thunderbird from the command line, using "sudo thunderbird", following which I succeeded in deleting the recalcitrant subfolder. Here's the first stage in the problem:
But when I next opened Thunderbird in ordinary mode (i.e., as "ron" not as "superuser"), I discovered that the Inbox was no longer accessible. Clicking on "Get Mail" yielded only a small wheel-icon that spins, presumably showing activity in progress, without actually finishing by getting mail. The other various folders seemed to operate normally, in that they showed their contents when clicked on.

I'm running ubuntu 10.04 as a server that hosts a website and our email. I set up the email (Postfix) to work with Dovecot to enable IMAP and POP support.The mails can be retrieved and sent through this server with no hassles. We just have an issue that all emails sent via a client to any other address (be it on the same domain or not) will return to the inbox of that client.So basically, I open MS Outlook. Click new message and send it off to my GMail address. After I send it, it pops into my inbox on Outlook (stating that it came from me). The intended recipient also gets the message.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI haven't logged on to Fedora for a few days, but I did this morning and opened claws mail and clicked 'get mail' and it proceeded to download new messages. However, when I clicked on the inbox folder, the email count changed to zero! No email. I checked and found the folderlist.xml has the correct Mail folder location, and when I went to that location, (on a shared data partition) indeed the 'inbox' folder was EMPTY. No files at all. I'd had a similar issue once, but the email #MH location wasn't correct, so when I fixed it, the email appeared. I did a web search and a search of the claws bugzilla.
The closest I came was a message about the cache not keeping accurate information. There was a claws-mail update at the end of May, but it had been working fine since then up until now. And, it's possible it's some sort of Fedora issue (?), because I had opened my 'home' folder on my desktop to check the claws folder, and now I see that there's a gaping hole on my desktop where that folder should be. I can get there by clicking 'places' and 'Home Folder'. Any other reports of disappearing folders and email?
I need to know how to have evolution, in the folder pane, show a separate inbox for each of my email accounts, i have 2. they both send receive fine, just a matter of organization.

The hitch is that when I use the evolution plugin to compose a new message, I'm only provided one email address per contact. I'm wondering if there's a way to designate a default or primary email address for each contact or some other way to influence this behavior. Not sure if the key to the issue lies with kupfer, its evolution plugin, or evolution.

Does anybody really know how to import Outlook 2007 email and address info into evolution? I will never get back the hours of my life I spent. I have read nooks and crannies in the forums, run script files, incorporated, Outlook express, Outlook 2003 and 2007, Thunderbird and at one point yelled at my monitor. I have exported and imported .csv files, tabbed delimited files, comma separated value files, and then in the end a post from a non-Ubuntu page told me I could just import the outlook.pst file. Some of the above methods work to some degree. Others just trash my contacts. I have only 350 records to import. None of the above methods will import the address field for Home, Office or Other. They are always blank. Might that be because I ran the Ubuntu One setup files before I imported my contacts?

We had several websites on that server, and many email addresses. Then we changed servers. Now we have a server through Rackspace and it is also running Ubuntu. It also has Virtualmin installed, which generally does not impose as many unconventional changes on Ubuntu as Plesk did.
Rather than using Thunderbird to download my email (which is what I used to do) I've decided I'll start reading my email on the server. So I will ssh to the server and then use some email client, such as Alpine, to read the email. So I installed Alpine. I have an email account for "lawrence". The email address is lawrence @ krubner. Currently, when mail arrives for that account, it is stored here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it is transferred to hear:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
When I start Alpine, while logged in as lawrence, Alpine automatically sets up an inbox for me here:
/home/lawrence/mail/
How do I get Alpine (or any other client) to read from the correct folder? I'm fairly sure the email package (the MTA) at work on this new server is Postfix. As near as I can tell, my email is held for 24 hours in this folder:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it gets transferred here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
Alpine only lets me set one path for my Inbox, so I'm not sure what path I should set. If I use "cur" I will see all email 1 day late, but if I use "new" then I will miss email if I go a day without checking.

This is REALLY annoying when using KMail in a business setting, since emails look embarrassing on a customer's email client (which is in 99% of the cases Outlook, I'm afraid).
Empathy doesn't retrieve contacts anymore! But its problem just include gmail accounts only!! Other accounts work fine
View 9 Replies View RelatedFollowing the last update bringing kmail 2.0.89 it does not start any more. I get a popup signaling a fatal error : "no read/write permission to your inbox folder". But these permissions have not changed. And even if I move away the Mail folder and try to start kmail I get the same message.

I've imported my contacts in adressbook and I can see them in Kontact - Adresses. But when I compose a new mail, I can't select any of my contacts. There is a combobox to select between following choices:
All
Default Adress book
Distribution list
recent adresses
Selected adresses
But none of these options shows the contacts I have imported. And I can't find an option to make my imported adress book the default adress book.
I have regged a Domain on CO.CC
Is it possible to setup an email server for that Domain on my Ubuntu box?

Have anyone used an email client that stays in sync with a free Hotmail account? I have setup Claws Mail but when I delete an email within the client it remains on the server. I remember this being the same for other email clients. Is there any client that will stay in sync? If I delete an email from within the client it will also be deleted from Hotmail's web bases interface.
