After I open the dvd rom tray either via ubuntu or by the eject button, it closes automatically. I have two dvd drives insalled, but only one has this problem. It's been a month that this problem started occurring, but it's not a hardware problem since both drives work fine in windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't open my terminal anymore. I changed a preference under the Title and Command tab in the preferences of the GNOME terminal. I put a custom command instead of the normal shell, but after I closed I realized that under the "When Command Exits" menu, I chose "Close Terminal". This means that the terminal closes automatically as soon as the command is done. After I open, it finishes the command and closes. I was wondering whether there is some way to change the terminal preferences from somewhere else or reinstall the terminal, and I obviously can't use terminal commands.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI work from home writing web content, and need the use of an article spinner tool called "The Best spinner". It is an .exe file and I installed it in my Mint Debian edition machine using wine, and everything is fine except for one thing. The app opens out, connects to the net, and then closes automatically. In fact if I check on the internet activity, I can see the app downloading the latest version, but the problem is that always it closes within a few seconds leaving me no other choice other than to log into a windows machine to work on it.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the app a couple of times but it does not seem to have helped. It requires the .net packages in winetricks, and I read that wine does not support net very well, yet the app is installed and even connects to the net. I don't understand the underlying process of how windows apps work in wine. Any work around considering that I never log into windows for anything other than using this app, a workaround means that windows is gone forever from my life.
I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 (was having similar issues in 10.04 too) on his PC and generally it's working just fine. The problem is system tray icons disappears/rearranges automatically but the biggest issue is that NetworkManager applet icon disappears and somehow internet stops working every now and then...Is there any way to "weld" NetworkManager etc icons to the Gnome Panel/taskbar ? so that they can not be removed without entering the password?

I have to use the manual feed, as the tray jams.
When set to manual feed, it prints fine in B&W and color.
However, page 2 goes from manual to tray 1! One page at a time works great.
FC 13, recent install, Dell 3100 cn printer USB.
It should be a simple thing to change to print from tray 2 instead of tray 1. Tray 1 is a manual feed tray, how do I change this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 6.06 and Apache.I connect to the machine via FTP. It seems as if the connection times out every few seconds. If I u/l a file it will take 15 seconds to connect. Once that connection is open I can u/l more files instantly. If I wait a few seconds it closes, then I have to wait another 15 seconds for it to reopen. Any ideas how to make it not time out so frequently?

When I go to open Openoffice again it asks if I want to run a recovery, I opt for that and it gets me back into the file (which is empty).I have tried saving the file in html format but, the same thing happens.I can paste into Tomboy without problem so it must be the Openoffice program.Maybe I should simply hop over to Sun Microsystems with this, mmm.

I would prefer it to never open in a new tab unless I ask it to. BUT, the really annoying thing is that when I click on the tab that appears, it just closes. I think this is a bug because sometimes the tab says something about java with some strange characters mixed with it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedBanshee only recently started doing this: When I play an song it works fine but if I click on skip it plays the next song for about 1-2 seconds then Banshee just closes. Also if I just let the song play (or skip to the end of the song) it also closes within 1-2 seconds of playing the next song. If I'm half way through a song I can click on another song to play it and it works fine through.I've tried disabling all my extensions but that didn't make any difference.
If I launch Banshee by typing 'banshee' into Terminal (and then play a song and press the skip button) this is what the Terminal says:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had Ubuntu Lucid beta 2 and had installed Lord of the rings online with pylotro which worked brilliant. But due to some problems with lucid i decided to reformat. I installed wine, winetricks, all the necesary files and went to install lotro that went brilliantly, set up pylotro that was fine, patched and just to be sure also installed the CLI client of lotro. Now when i start the client, it loads up everything so I can select realm, enter user name and password I select to login my screen changes resolution, the screen goes black it closes. Here are the results I get on both pylotro and the CLI installer...can anyone make any sense of the reason behind the crash?

i just slammed ubuntu 11.04 onto a spare server i had and im having a real issue with remote desktopping from my Win7 computer, ive checked the settings for the remote desktop server on 11.04 and all seem fine, i go to connect to it using tightVNC from my win7 machine, ask's for password, fill that out then click connect, and as soon as i hit connect it connects for about 1 second, then says there was an error contacting the server, i checked 11.04 and it then says that i can only connect via local host and not the IP address anymore.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Nautilus Elementary and Gloobus Preview, and am having a problem with Gloobus Preview. At first, when I pressed the gear icon, the menu would come down. Then, I changed toggled the preferences so that Gloobus Preview would quit when it lost focus, and so that it would always be on top. Now, whenever I click the gear, Gloobus Preview shuts down. I ran it from the terminal, and nothing abnormal happens when it quits from a gear press. Could it be something about the close button position being goofed up? I don't think so, because the expand picture button also makes it quit. It's weird, though, because the open in application button on Gloobus Preview doesn't "crash" it. It opens up in the Image Viewer. I tried modifying the preferences in /usr/bin, but that didn't do anything. Purging and reinstalling also does nothing.

I have no way to connect my laptop to the internet, as I have dial-up on my desktop and my laptop doesn't have a dial-up modem. I need to install "libc6" as a dependency for libc6-dev, but when I double click the .deb (which I transferred using an sd card using my desktop, which has Vista) It shows the window for a couple seconds, and then closes. I already have libc6 installed, but it is an older version.

I can connect to my Ubuntu box remotely with VNC, but if I type any character anywhere, it closes out the window I was typing in. At 9:15 it will automatically run housekeeping scripts via cron and these are completed by 9:30. Some time later I will turn on the monitor and start work. Since moving from Wheezy to Jessie the system has switched off for no apparent reason. Running debian wheezy. I noticed recently, whenever I fork a process using "&" from a terminal, such as

it starts up, shows the processid in the terminal, but every time when I close the terminal, leafpad gets killed. However, I create a simple bash script,

leafpad&
exit
The script launches leafpad, then exits out leaving leafpad running, as it should. Is what I mentioned above normal? I'm confused, because I think I used to be able to do this in terminal without it depending on the terminal to stay running.
I guess I'm remembering wrong. As it turns out, commands begun on terminal get closed with terminal unless, as mentioned, you use nohup or start subshell. Process hierarchy and tracking etc.
