I'm trying out unity-2d on maverick. What I would like to do is switch off my AWN Dock in preference for Unity. Anybody have a recommendation for something similar to the Awn comic applet? I need my daily dose of Peanuts, Garfield & Dilbert!
View 1 Repliesim currently using fedora 14 kde and i cant find a working comic book reader, i currently have the comic "the last man" and all the files are in .cbr, if someone could help me with this it would be greatly appreicated, i have tried installing mulitple comic book readers, so mabye a lil step by stepalso while i am posting, i currently use yumex to download all of my apps and stuff but some are out of date is there any way to update all the databases to recieve the most up to date apps?

Using openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), KDE environment. I am very, very new and inexperienced with Linux... I would like to download and read some e-books using my desktop PC. I poked around the Internet with Google and found several recommendations for an e-book reader called Calibre. So I found it in the openSUSE repository and installed v. 0.6.53-3.3.1 using YaST2. But the darned thing does not seem to work -- I click on the icon and nothing happens!!

So it was easier for my eyes to read books in rtf, txt & so on formats instead of the default white background which is very annoying. Can you please suggest me a software like that for linux?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using the latest daily build of unity and the alpha of narty and the 3d version of Unity is dog slow on this computer. I installed the 2d version and it's much much better. The only problem is, I need to be able to see the battery manager applet, the clock, and the logout button, but none of them are visible. The only icon I have in the top right corner is the wifi manager.
I know everything is in alpha and unfinished, but is there a config file I need to modify or might I have done something wrong when adding and installing the 2d interface from the daily repo?
I had a nice little applet on the top bar in Gnome with Maverick. But now with Natty, although I can launch the Character Map application, I can't seem to remember how I got that up there and if it's even possible in Unity.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a little problem with the Network Manager applet - it works vaguely OK, even if it takes a bit long to find my connection, but when I click on the icon, the menu doesn't show.I have also installed the applet through the Ubuntu Software Centre.Just to clarify, the icon appears fine in my panel, and the notifications appear when I am connected, it's just that the menu doesn't appear at all.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThere is a following convention: tar/zip/rar archive renamed to cbt/cbr/cbz is recognized by some application as a comic book file, so file managers can open it using corresponding viewers, which treat sequence of images inside as pages of a book. And nautilus used to recognize cbt files, making thumbnails from the first image in such renamed archive back in karmic. It still recognizes such file as "Comic Book Archive" after upgrade to lucid but fails to thumbnail it now. It tries to do that though, showing icon with the clock for a moment, but almost instantly fails, printing "Error loading document: File type Tar archive (application/x-tar) is not supported" to the console. When I am trying to open cbt file in evince (which is responsible for making document thumbs in gnome afaik) it displays exactly the same error message. Cbt files itself are completely valid and can be opened easily with Comix for example. Thumbs created in karmic are still displaying fine as well.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have openSUSE 11.2, 64 bits. I use Evince from the very beginning. Since a few weeks, when I want to open a .pdf file, Acrobat Reader appears and reads my file. It seems to have become the default reader now. However, I never wanted to change from Evince :this simple program is well enough for me. I tried various ways, but I can't define Evince as my default .pdf reader. How can I make Evince to become my default reader again please ?

I can not find the comic strips options in the KDE Desktop Plasma thingy, upper right of your screen. Used to read UserFriendly, Snoopy and Garfield daily.

I thought I was removing the chat status piece of the indicator applet (I know what it is now, didn't then), but I accidentally removed the whole thing. Now when I figured out how to put it back on the panel, I can't get it back to where it was (which was to the RIGHT of the system date/time applet). How can I do this as well as move the indicator applet that has the volume control in it?

I was using both the Indicator Applet and the Notification Area applets in my panel but realized that very often when I started the system, the icons of these applet appeared mixed. Some items were duplicated (for example the keyboard indicator) where others were missing (sometimes the battery indicator, sometimes the sound indicator, etc). When that happened I had to remove them and add them to panel again.
This seems to be a bug that makes one applet interfere with the other (maybe because there are some items that appear in both but when you add both initially nothing is duplicated but after a system restart the problem happens).After searching for some way to fix this apparent bug without success I decided to remove the Indicator applet and keep just the Notification Area.
It works but then I don't have the sound applet anymore, because it was part of the Indicator Applet.
I searched for a standalone sound applet but I couldn't find any. Do you know of any such applet that I could install in the system? If I can find any it would be fine to me and I would be satisfied using just the Notification Area.
Had ubuntu for a few years left came back last month. I lost the indicator applet in the panel. I don't know what I did to get it back. I feel like this is a very very simple thing to fix but I just can't find it. Here is a pic of what i'm talking about.

Recently, I get the following problem: At the automatic connection, I get the message: Network manager applet (/usr/bin/mn-applet) needs default keyering. As I don't know what it is to type it and then, deny or OK, it doesn't get connected to my wireless network.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI removed the "indicator applet" from the default gnome panel at the top of the default Lucid desktop. Doing so resulted in me losing the ability to control the sound from the panel, which I value so I put it back.Once I restored the indicator applet to the panel, the nm-applet went missing. I'm still connecting to my home network with no problem, so the function is there, but the little icon that updates when you're trying to connect, shows signal strength, and other available networks is now missing. This I've searched the problem and haven't found any solutions that work, I think because of the new applet integration, but I'm very surprised this hasn't been found by someone yet!

Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLucid has this (opinion: stupid) notification applet in the top right that contains links and notifications for the default evolution etc setup. I do not want that applet and would prefer to run what I want via alltray. The problem is that removing the notification applet removes the sound applet! Firstly, how do I "unmarry" the two? secondly, who could have possibly thought that was a good idea? Ubuntu has been great, but c'mon! Why is a default email program married to the sound applet!

My kupdate-applet tells me it has a recommended update: KDE 4.3.5 from the official opensuse update repo. Problem is I already have a more recent version of KDE 4.3.5 installed from the official opensuse KDE repo. In yast I pressed the "switch system packages" button for the KDE repo. How can I make the update applet ignore this "recommended" update? Note that the updateApplet itself is installed from the opensuse update repo. If I don't do this, then the older update applet from the KDE repo always has a recommended update for... Kupdate-applet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnybody recently succeded in installing GRUB2 on Mac OSX partitions? I have to compile in un Fedora/Ubuntu/Gentoo. It work, but once back in OS X, I get this error:
./grub-mkimage -d . -o grub.efi part_gpt hfsplus fat ext2 etx3 ext4 normal sh chain boot configfile linux -bash: ./grub-mkimage: cannot execute binary file
I tried to build it in Ubuntu 8.04, gentoo and Fedora Rawhide, all fail with the same error. Look like the binary compatiility between OSX and Linux is broken in Leopard. I would love to have a faster boot, it take half a minute to get to grub, using Grub2 with EFI would take 3 seconds. As I don't need bios emulation, Fedora would also run faster. Anybody have a compiled and working Grub2? Is there a better way to use Grub2 with EFI? A working one if possible
