Ubuntu :: Can't Execute Files With Wine - "Executable Bit"
Oct 28, 2010
This looks like an issue of 10.10, in 10.04 I execute my windows aplications with wine without a problem, now I cant, see the screenshot, I need a solution, how I disable that security issue?, or how can I activate the executable bit, because it doesnt allow me to change anything of my windows files because this security issue, please help needed, I need that aplications running.
I've recently been trying to restore a Debian installation back to it's previous state after a serious operation system crash. Efforts are largely going well however I've run into problems since reinstalling Wine. Previously I could execute a Windows executable by simply entering ./executable.exe in the bash shell but this no longer seems to work as now I have to include the "wine" command in front of the executable. how to configure Debian to automatically use Wine to execute using the ./executable.exe format?
I recently got the information that Windows software do not run in Linux as such. In order to run these software (Running the software also includes installing the software by running the set-up executable file) I need to install 'wine' on my system and then run the set-up files from within this 'wine'. I therefore wish to install 'wine' on my system in order to run the corresponding Windows set-up files (which are executable files). I am running Linux Mint version 10 on my system.
Using Ubuntu 9.10/Epson Perfection V5001) I downloaded and extracted VueScan 9.0.08.2) The executable does not execute.3) Trying a cmd line execution (./vuescan) I get "./vuescan /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by ./vuescan) 4) However, libc.so.6 (link to shared lib) is located at /lib///cmov. It is linked to libc-2.10.1.so (shared lib) which is also located in /etc///cmov.So what may be the problem? My scanner works with Xsane, Iscan & VueScan 8.6.08. Unfortunately, Ed Hamrick (www.hamrick.com) does not support this type of problem(linux library compatibility issues), though a very nice application when the versions are compatible for Linux.
I have a copy of "Riven" for Windows 95 still laying around, and I decided to see if I could run it in WINE just for the hell of it. I got the following error when I tried to run the "Setup.exe" file (or any other executable on the CD-ROM, for that matter) using WINE:
Quote:
The file '/media/Riven1/Setup.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.I read about the executable bit, and while I understand the security reasons for it being there, I would still like to know if there's a way to circumvent it, or even a workaround. I tried chmod on the exe file, but since it's on read only media, that didn't work. I'm running Lucid.
I downloaded a program called tonespace http://www.mucoder.net/en/tonespace/ which I extracted and then tried to execute the executable file with ./tonespace. This gives me the following message:
bash: ./tonespace: No such file or directory
When I use the command: file ./tonespace I get this: tonespace: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, stripped
I dont get it. The file is clearly there, yet when trying to execute it bash doesn't seem to recognize it.
It has permissions rwxr-xr-x and is not owned by root. Am I overlooking something?
I've installed wine several times in ubuntu 11.04 but after the installation when i click on the wine icon it gives an warning message "The file 'wine' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit."
How do i open .exe files using wine? I've tried right clicking it & opening it in a erminal but when i do this it saysProcess of pid=0015 has terminatedNo process loaded, cannot execute 'echo Modules:'Cannot get info on module while no process is loadedNo process loaded, cannot execute 'echo Threads:'

I installed wine and I installed one of my file ccnaexploration.exe using wine. After that I ran it from applications>wine>programs>exploration4.html. It opened with the browser google-chrome and I launched the "Launch course". It didn't work after that. I tried with firefox also. It didn't work with firefox also. I installed other .exe file using wine. That other .exe file is working. I only have problem with exploration4.html. I have posted the .html image also. you can check it out.
I just installed the nmap for port scanning and then run ./configure , make , make install command respectively. It works and then I successfully installed nmap under /usr/local/bin . nmap is a executable file not .exe . so my question is how can I open it .
I am using wine softwear to install source insight executable file. But the problem occurs after installing source insight with wine later one message appeard on to the screen with close button. If i was click on that close button total set up has gone.I do not know what is going to be happend there.
I cant make files executable anymore.using chmod or from file properties.. it isn't working. AS far as I remember, I didn't make any changes in the user settings and my account has the administrator rights. For an un-executable file, say a jpg or a txt, it can be done.but doesn't happen with a .sh, .py or any other xecutable. chmodi-ing shows no error, but the file isn't executable. Through the GUI, when I check the box , its immediately unchecked again.
I just upgraded to 10.10 (everything was working fine in 10.04). I have .jar files that in 10.04 would execute with OpenJDK. Now I get an error message, telling me that it is blocked:
"The file '[path]' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit."
I try to set it as executable like it was before, and it's a no go. My checkmark takes then quickly disappears before my eyes.
you can make a file that runs the contents as if typed out by the user in command prompt by saving the file as either .bat or .cmd . When using BASH in ubuntu, is it possible to save terminal executable files (from a text editor, like GEDIT), What file ending does it take, can i lay it out with just commands? (what is the syntax)
In Xubuntu, I can't seem to mark files as executable. I go into the properties, but there is no option to do this. Is there a way to mark .exe and .jar files as executable in XFCE?
I have downloaded Unetbootin for linux. When I double clicked on it, it says, no application to open executable files. What application can open executable files?
I've always been able to run my shell scripts and other executable files using dot slash, ie: ./runfile.shAfter doing a fresh 11.4 install, I cannot run my scripts. Even if I 'source' the file, it won't run. Why?This is an example of the files that will no longer run. Permissions look normal to me, but there is an * at the end of the filename. I think that just means it's executable, but I've never seen it on my systems before.

I need to instal JDownloader, I downloaded as a linux version and this is the command line output (Archive Manager):
Archive: /root/Downloads/JDownloader/JDownloader.exe [/root/Downloads/JDownloader/JDownloader.exe] End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /root/Downloads/JDownloader/JDownloader.exe or /root/Downloads/JDownloader/JDownloader.exe.zip, and cannot find /root/Downloads/JDownloader/JDownloader.exe.ZIP, period.
Suppose there is a directory named mydir containing ... aaa.cpp aaa.h bbb.cpp bbb.h Makefile a b Where a,b are executable files. What I want to is to only copy a and b to another location. Is it possible? (other than by manually issuing copy a,b another_dir).
