how to fix firefox?? The problem is when i am in fire fox the toolbar with where you can maximize, minimize and close firefox is gone and i cannot figure out how to bring it back. As well, the bottom tool bar is not assailable till i close firefox. I am using firefox 3.68
View 4 RepliesSo about an hour ago I put my computer on standby. For whatever reason I couldn't bring it back so I restarted it. It works fine except now Ubuntu has pushed my display down. This means that the bottom of my tool-bar on the bottom of the screen is cut off, and there's a black bar on the top. I'm using a T.V. screen so there is no way I can manually adjust it. I also plugged my desktop back into an old monitor and it was off-center downward too.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've only been using Ubuntu for a few months, a good friend turned me on to it and I definitely like it better than any version of Windows out there, but I'm definitely still learning about it.
I may have clicked on something, but my bottom tool bar totally disappeared and I'm not sure how to get it back. Before it disappeared, none of the windows I had opened were showing up on it either.
To reiterate, I'm not sure what I clicked on to make it disappear, for the most part it just did... :-/
I was using the 9.10 distro and just upgraded to the 10.04 distro. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it either.
I was trying to switch the menu tool bar from the top to the bottom which I successfully done, however the tutorial that I followed first said to right click and delete the lower tool bar. I thought the tutorial would eventually give the instructions to recreate the open window/page tabs in the top of screen but it doesn't. Now each open page overlap each other so I have to collapse each page to see what id below each one.
Firefox is fine, its just when opening up multiple programmes on the desktop.
I'm fine with the 'Terminal' if there's some code to recover this area.
Ok on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen that arrow you hit and it expands and shows all the things running essentially, it has a clock and such, somehow it is now on the left how do I move it back to the right?

No matter what I did, whether it was clicking the "X" button, hitting Ctrl+W, looking for a "Close Tab" option in the menus, I couldn't close any tabs in Firefox 4. I started disabling extensions, and first, I disabled the "Global Unity Integration" extension, and lo and behold, after a restart of Firefox, the problem is no more.

The other thing I would like to increase is the size of the tabs. I DON'T WANT TO MAKE THEM LONGER, I WANT TO MAKE THEM TALLER so they are easier to hit when laptop is hooked to TV. I recently lost my Min Max and close buttons on pretty much every window. This seemed to start when I upgraded to 10.10. I did what was told in another thread on missing task bars. I managed to get them all back except on Firefox. I tried the preferences, double clicking up there, right clicking.
View 3 Replies View RelatedNo matter how many times I update or install new flash plugins in firefox, I always wind up with 2 versions of the 'Shockwave Flash' plugin. The first is the prevous version of Adobe, the second is the current version of either Adobe, Gnash or Swfdec. I use yum to keep my packages in synch. When a new version of Adobe comes though, it erases the older version of the currently installed plugin, keeps the newer currently installed version, and installs itself as the new version, both versions enabled.
Hope that paragraph makes sense to you, it gave me a headache to write. Further, they must both be enabled for any of them to work, and which ever I use the video is slow, choppy and prone to pausing for no apparent reason. The CPU usage is always pegged to the roof and the sound is often out of synch.
What I'm wondering is whether or not this is the normal situation or if I'm doing something wrong? I've been playing with Ubuntu and have noticed that only one version installs at one time, and the video playback is much better, if still not exactly smooth.

but every time i close it either by the x or tool bar it crashes and gives a message process /usr/lib/firfox3.5/firefox was killed by signall 11 (sigsegv)

randomly firefox (3.59) will not close properly, using the x button will remove it from my de, but it will keep running in the background, and i cant reopen it, receiving a message stating that another ff session is still running. i have to kill its pid id manually. not a big deal but... any idea? (11.2/kde4.3.5 release 0, x86_64)

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to disable the icons in the bookmarks tool bar? You know what I mean: my facebook bookmark always has this little F right next to it, the ..... bookmark has the red and white ..... icon, etc.
Those are pretty nice, but they don't really work within the theme that I am using (airlines).
To relax my eyes, I usually pick less colourful themes. So it'd be cool to get rid of all those obtrusive icons.
I know that some firefox themes don't have them. But I think I like the default one, just not the icons.
I have done a search there and I didn't find any discussion on this. My apologies if this has already been discussed. In which case, an admin can always close this thread, and redirect me.

This has been happening sporadically over the past month. I thought it was a problem with 10.04, so I upgraded to 11.04 and it is still occurring.I can't seem to pin down a cause or something that I do to make this happen.Every so often, I will lose the ability to see right click context menus and I am unable to click on the menu buttons. Rather, I can click on the menu names (file, etc), but no menu comes down. I cannot use the keyboard to bring down the menu (alt-f, etc), but I can use keyboard shortcuts to do specific actions (ctrl-t, etc).I was using Firefox 3.6 and now I am using 4 and it is still occurring.

First time failed with no sound, second time worked fine - NO CHANGES that I know of, BUT OK - it works nicely.So if I click on a file in the Linux (fedora 14) file browser, I see using "Mplayer Media Player" as a second option, It does nothing, nor does it do anything from the Application tool menu. I do not know where the "I am doing nothing (and here is why)" error message is logged.
I can manually run mplayer or xmplayer on the .wmv file and it works.How do I edit the menus (control files?) and have them use the newly installed and working mplayer (or xmplayer??).Next, it would be nice to make mplayer the default tool to play videos in Firefox (the default for both is another tool (Movie player) which needs a plugin that I cannot find to work).And finally, if I can get one or both of these working - it would be nice to set the default to the new player instead of "Movie player".
I have seen several screen shots of Linux and Ubuntu with the bar on the bottom like Mac OS-X. I would like to have this, but still be able to customize the rest of the theme. Is there somewhere you can download this, or what?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been running Xubuntu for the past month or two on my Acer Aspire One netbook with very few problems, and generally I've been happy. But this morning, I went to boot up my netbook to check my email and when it booted, I got to my desktop, but the bars at the top and bottom of the desktop are missing. I thought at first that it was hanging during the loading of Xubuntu and that there was a serious problem at hand that might've demanded a reinstall of Xubuntu, but upon further study once I got back to my campus, I discovered that the bars have simply disappeared and that everything else runs fine. When I try to click "Panel" in "Settings", which I'm assuming is where I'd adjust settings for said bars, nothing comes up.
As I think about it, it doesn't seem like a major problem, considering everything else still seems to function fine, but I would like to have them back again.
Just installed Ubuntu.I right-clicked the bar on the bottom right where the 4 screens were and picked properties, it gave me an error and now there is nothing on the bar but the trash can. No programs and no multiple screens.
