I need my battery/wifi/sound controls back on my panel. By accident(or bug) I deleted them all from my panel. Now when I go to "Add to Panel..." they, are not there to add back.

If i just grab the sides, it just glitches up.btw it works on different desktops, but i just want to use my own desktop because it gets a bit annoying when i have to switch user to another desktop just to use wine)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 9.0X to 10.04 on my Sony Vaio VGN-TZ398U which has an internal Sprint mobile broadband card. The card operates properly along with the wireless. The problem that I am having since upgrading is that the Network Manager Applet icon that looks like a cell phone bar display does not show in the notification area at all unless there is a known wireless (wifi) network nearby.
Clarification: If I am in my car, the icon does not show which then makes it impossible to connect using the mobile broadband functions of the Network Manager Applet ( version 0.8 ). If I am in my office with a known wireless network, the icon shows and then I can switch to the mobile card.
I have tried removing the notification area from the panel and adding it again. I have done the same with the indicator applet. Neither has solved this problem.
I've followed the steps outlined in the Fedora FAQ regarding sound issues. I am attempting to play some MP3 files using RhythmBox, and there's no sound. I have dug a bit deeper. I've tried alsamixer, and when I press F6 (Select Sound Card), I see three entries:
- (default)
0 HDA Intel
1 HDA NVidia
I have tried selecting a different sound card. When I select 1, I see this text: "This sound device does not have any controls". I have an NVidia GeForce 480 video card, but it has been suggested to me that I don't want to use it for sound. My speakers are in my monitor. I would assume that has ramifications on how I set things up for sound within Fedora. I have used some kind of sound test utility by executing this at the command prompt:
"speaker-test -c 2 -t wav".
I hear nothing. I don't know what to do next. If anyone can IM with me using Pidgin, that would be perfect

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using a Fujitsu Amilo pi3560 with a Realtek rtl8172 wireless card, and running the latest driver (rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0014.0115.2010). The OS is Ubuntu 9.10.
Everything runs perfectly - when my laptop is connected with the power cord. But when I go battery the wireless disconnects after a few minutes. It then asks for the wpa password, searches for the router, asks again, and so on indefinitely, until I reboot and it all replays once more.
Running Ubuntu 10.04. Networking won't work at all. Used to work flawlessly. Problem is not hardware, because booting windows (vista) on the same machine I can still use networking.
Little story: I Was going into a short trip, then I put my computer to sleep (as usual). Trip took longer than expected and, when I came back, the notebook battery was dead. Charged it, booted the notebook (Dell Inspiron 1525) and now its network won't work at all. After reboot it even ran a filesystem scan, but problem wasn't fixed. The icon on 'taskbar' only says "networking disabled". The ethernet lights won't even light up when I connect a ethernet cable and it won't see any wifi networks. I've tried to fiddle with that little switch which would turn the wifi on and off, but all it seems to do is turn the Bluetooth on and off, as shown by the little Bluetooth icon on 'taskbar' (I've not tested bluetooth, though). I've also tried to plug a external wifi dongle but ubuntu won't even try to install it.
what's happening or what could I do to get my network working? Is there some 'magic' I can type into a terminal window to make this work?
Got this new motherboard and it's running 11.4 of Opensuse and it works great. Even got the DVI working with the monitor with help of instructions I found here. However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?

The other day, I turned off the wireless using the keyboard shortcut to save battery life when I was somewhere without wireless, but now it's not turning back on. I tried restarting, I've done the keyboard shortcut several times, and it still just says "disconnected" for wireless and wired, even though there are several wireless networks around me right now. There aren't any options in Network Connections or Network Tools to turn on the wireless. Is there a way to manually turn it back on?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Mangler and one of its requirements was pulse-audio. I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. (lol) My Sound card is according to sound configuration SBx00 Azalia(Intel HDA) - Driver snd-hda-intel.Opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5
View 2 Replies View RelatedLoud popping sound approx. 11 secs after switching to battery power if audio hasnt been used for awhile (11 secs probably?) It will pop when audio is started (like movie, alert etc etc). It appears to be a power saving problem. And is not occurring for me on other distros, and only started happening recently on OpenSuSE. I found the exact same problem on the OpenSuSE forums dated 2008 (see: [URL]) but no solution as of yet. And by loud popping sound imagine one of those 'black cat' snappers you throw on the ground and they pop, it sounds almost identical.

But now when booting I get a message saying "checking battery state" and then it boots no further. This is a laptop without a battery installed, running permanently from the mains through the charger.
How can I disable this check so that the laptop will still boot without a battery fitted?

View 9 Replies View Relatedgetting back to our laptop, the stability window is ~3.2V. Meaning that when you operate the battery above this the electrolyte is oxidized on the positive electrode and reduced on the negative electrode. Remember that we only want to oxidize and reduce the active materials and don't want to do anything else. All these reactions other than the ones we want are called side reactions and these are really bad for the battery. The nominal voltage of a laptop battery is 3.7 V which means that something bad wants to happen as we use the battery.So long story short, stuff (e.g., passive layers and poor kinetics of reactions) happens and things are not as bad as they seem and you can increase the voltage up to 4.2V without bad things really happening. All chargers for Li-ion cells today cut the battery off when it reaches 4.2V. What you have to realize is that at 4.2V, these side reactions are present in finite amounts and start to chemically kill the battery, but its not that dramatic.
Operating to 4.1V makes things better and extends the life, 4.0 V is even better and so on. So why don't battery manufacturers cut the voltage off at, say, 4 V to get better battery life? Because every time you cut this voltage down you decrease the capacity of the battery and its run time. The 4.2V cutoff is a compromise between good run time and decent (read "not pathetic) life.On the other hand, if you charge the battery and then pull the plug (so to speak), the battery discharges some, the voltage drops, and these reactions become less of a problem and your battery life goes up. So the best things you can do is to charge the laptop (or cell phone, camera etc.) and once its charged, pull the plug. Your battery will thank you for it.As a matter of fact, if you own a Lenovo Thinkpad, you can actually change the state of charge to which you charge the battery using the Battery Maintenance utility. You can change this from charging to 100% state (where the voltage is 4.2V) to 90% so that your voltage is less. You lose some energy is doing that, but atleast you can change it to 100% when you need battery power and put it back down to 90% when you can plug in. I wish my Mac has the same feature.
I typically use the battery for a while (say 1/2 hour to 1 hour), then plug it in and wait to fully charge it, then I pull the plug and use it again for 1/2 hour to 1h and then I repeat this. Takes some getting used to and I forget to do this, but I try.
I have a 3 year old laptop with the original battery and its drained pretty bad. The "Battery may be broken" popup was driving me insane and this is how you disable it, in case you are in the same situation as me. Open terminal

apps --> gnome-power-manager --> notify
uncheck the low_capacity checkbox. This should disable the popup for you if your battery has little life left in it. Now, if any knows how to disable the Avahi popup, let me know.
The new 11.04 has Banshee in the sound adjustment icon... even if it was uninstalled. Is there any way to go back to having rhythmbox controller in the sound applet?

When I try to record something through the laptops mic, usb webcam mic or with desktop recorders audio record feature all playback is too fast (sounds a bit like alvin and the chipmunks :L ) Is anybody else having this problem, or even better know how to fix it ?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm running 10.10 and had never tried recording before I upgraded to 10.04. I had the same problem in 10.04 though.

After going through various posts all I can see, is that the solutions provided only provide the applet for sound control and does not have any integration with any of the music players (in my case Rhythmbox).I really want that menu back as it made listening to music while using multiple desktops very easy.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Hardy which last night asked for updates that included kernel changes. Today I find I no longer can connect using WIFI and have no sound. The GUIs are just not there and it's as if the controllers themselves have disappeared. For example lshw -C network reveals a Cisco Airon Wireless, but it's not listed as a wireless device, just as network controller.Can anyone advice me on how to approach this? Is it possible to revert changes or something?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded (included kernel updates) using the normal update manager on my wife's Dell 1420 Inspiron Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS with security, proposed and backports. After the upgrade reboot the sound and wifi were broken--- the system reported there was no hardware. I suspect this is simply a bug with the new kernel. A couple years ago a similar bug to the sound driver forced us to skip a kernel. I suppose I should file a bug report about this somewhere?
It is simple enough to boot into the previous kernel where sound/wifi do function, for now. However I'm also getting a strange dependency problem for the packages linux-generic linux-image-generic linux-restricted-modules-generic These packages "have been kept back" according to aptitude. They are stuck at 2.6.24.28.30. I'm unable to force install them to the newer 2.6.24.29.31 to match the other latest installed packages and the latest kernel listed on the GRUB menu. I wonder if the reason the sound and wifi are broken is that these won't update.
If I try to update the aptitude dialogue gives me solutions with +259 to remove the linux-generic package. But isn't that an important package that I need? Why is it suggesting I remove these? Maybe they are obsolete meta-packages? I can't get it to install 2.6.24.29 no matter what I do. I removed and then installed these packages and none of that get the sound working. To remove and install I had to run aptitude and it would give me solutions saying -29000 but I did it anyway to try and force it. None of it worked so I just put it back to the way it was, with the "held back" 2.6.24.28. I don't really understand package dependency.
Last Monday I upgraded the Ubuntu from Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx in my laptop (HP Compaq volna 515), and I have no sound. Searching in linux forums for an answers, I've got that (as far as I understand) there's no unique solution for this problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn my top right corner I got all my Ubuntu appindicators that come with Ubuntu 11.04. I also have Dropbox, caffeine and screenlets. Problem is that I cant click on dropbox, caffeine, battery indicator, wlan or sound indicator until I first click on messages menu and slide over to appindicator that I need. When screenlets appindicator is not present there is no problem. Its the same when I had Jupiter installed.
