I've just upgraded to xubuntu 11.04 and every thing seems to work fine and better than version 10. The only problem I have is that after some hour of working programs like vuze, amule, qbittorrent shuts down and disappears. if example: if I leave those software on for teh whole night the morning after they are closed and i have to restart them again
View 1 RepliesI'm new to Conky, and have shamelessly copied from the many other conkyrc files posted here! I have Conky set to start up with a 15 second delay, and it does. But frequently when I close another programme (eg Firefox) Conky disappears. It's still running, and if I log out or reboot I see it for a flash, and it appears OK again when the system starts up.

I've just installed Lubuntu 10.10 to an Asus A2400H laptop. It has a Celeron 2.6 Ghz CPU and 512mb RAM. In the past I have installed Ubuntu and more recently Xubuntu 9.10 and 10.04. This time round I wanted to try out Lubuntu to get more speed out of this laptop but it's giving me crazy problems.When I run the Live CD all seems to work well and quick and there are no problems I can see. Then having installed it -- no errors during install -- when it boots up the fan goes at 100%, the only items on the menu are log off and something else of no use, but neither work. I can't load any of the main programs, but I can get to terminal and the update manager works, although it works extremely slowly.
I typed the 'top' command from the terminal and it says CPU usage is only 35% and only half the memory is in use, and no swap file.I have tried a reinstall and it's exactly the same. I've done the 'check disk for errors' and given the CD lens a clean because sometimes this has caused problems in the past, but it doesn't seem to be the case here given there are no errors during install (I watched the whole install... all 50 minutes of it).I have previously istalled LXDE on this laptop side-by-side with Xubuntu and it did have some fan issues and bugs but still worked for the most part, so I would have thought just having the one system would create less conflict.
Vuze downloaded an update, and now everytime I use it keeps telling me to re start for the update to have an effect. When I re start, same thing happens again tells me it needs to restart. I'm using Gnome and openSUSE 11.3. I checked older posts for a solution it seems this has happened before. Do I just wait for a new version to come out of the repos?

Gnome has this option and I would like to see it in KDE if it exists in the default clock. I am willing to replace the default KDE clock with a seperate widget if one exists for this.

I just recently erased my hard drive and installed ubuntu 9.10 all over again. I updated as expected and everything was going well, until, my internet stopped working after maybe 40 mins or so after a successful boot. Now this same thing happens every 40 mins and I have to reboot the computer by forcing my laptop to shut down by holding down the power button. This also made me aware of another problem when restarting or logging off my laptop. The laptop hangs at that terminal-syled screen and the underscore blinks and fails to shut the computer down/log off. I resort to holding down the power button to restart. I am using a wireless connection with WEP key protection.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to upgrade qbittorrent to the newest version. So I went to the official website and followed the steps of typing some commands in the terminal. However, it said missing libtorrent-rasterbar5. I went to Synaptic and checked, showing "libtorrent-rasterbar6". Does this mean my version of libtorrent-rasterbar is too new?
And I've removed something regarding qbittorrent because I wanted to install rasterbar5. I searched for rasterbar5 in the Net and downloaded it. It connected to the Ubuntu Software Centre automatically but it showed unable to install.
So I thought I failed to upgrade qbittorrent. I just wanted to install the original version (v2.4.0). I did it like the first time I downloaded qbittorrent. Open the Ubuntu Software Centre and search for it and press "install". It failed! Because a type of repositories named "qbittorrent" showing conflict.
I've dealt with a similar problem regarding GIMP successfully before. But I can't remember.
I am using qBitTorrent. But whenever i am trying to download, it is having few issues.
1. It takes a lot of time to start the download. Last night it did not even start to download even after 15 mins. But when i put the same torrent in utorrent in Win7 partition it started to download immediately.. can somebody point out what is going wrong?
2. do i need to keep the qBittorrent open all the time till it finishes.. Otherwise it is not downloading... But in my Win7, when i close it, it automatically docks itself to the task bar.. (hav been using Win for a long time.. thats why i am comparing it to Win.. )

I am trying to use aMule, under 64 bit Kubuntu on KK. I get a low ID. When I try the connectivity test it fails. I am advised to: 'Make sure your firewall or router is allowing/forwarding this TCP service port..I don't have any doubts about my router, since eMule works fine under Windows on my network.So I am persuaded to examine the firewall on my KK installation - except that I cannnot find it.
In addition, how do I find the definition for my network card to be sure it is set to the correct IP address to match my router settings?
I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 lts lucid lynx and I've intalled Amule. In my windows partition I always use emule without problems. The connection is guaranteed by the open doors of my Pirelli Alice Gate Plus 2:TCP:8294 UDP:45266 My firewall is set for them and I ca use KAdemilia avoiding Server problems. I thought to do the same with Linux. Surprisingly, Amule connects well edk2 Servers but Kad reports this state: Active Disconnected. Probably my id is very low. I've tried to launch a popular query like "ubuntu" and i've waited more than an hour. No response. I've tried also to run a nodes.dat from various websites but without success. Kad remains disconnected. Why does emule works well with the same tcp-udp connection and amule doesn't work in the same way? Maybe amule supports only server connections? And if yes do you know a package for Lucid Lynx able to manage with kad?

I have been using Open SUSE 10.3 for about a year now and have been very pleased. I am now trying Open SUSE 11, it seems good, loads a lot faster than 10.3 and seems to run a little faster. I have had a few probs but they have been resolved with help from these forums. But I have a big prob remaining and I have no idea what could cause it. For no apparent reason I will lose the connection to the net.It happens mostly when running aMule, it can be downloading fine for some while when suddenly the connection to the servers is lost and it won't reconnect, and then also I can not connect to the net with Google etc. The only way to solve it seems to be to shut down, wait awhile then reboot. It will be OK for a while then the problem re-occurs. There does not seem to be a problem with anything else on the system. I know that the Modem is OK as I have three HDD - 1 running Win XP, 2 - running Open Suse 10.3. 3 - running Open Suse 11 & the prob only occurs with SUSE 11, I do not get this problem with either of the other HDD. I have tried three versions of aMule, with SUSE 11,the one given on YAST - v2.2.2-0, & others from Packman v2.2.1-0, & vSVN, the problem occurs with each version so I think it must lie with SUSE 11. I have opened ports 4662 & 4672 on the firewall, & the setup I use is identical to the one on 10.3 which works faultlessly. I use a NTL Modem connected to the PC via Ethernet.

None of the tv viewing programs work, ether they crash or don't produce a stream.
I am sure the drivers are installed. The card is autodetected as a WinTV-HVR-1270. From what I have read on other post the 1250 r4 detects as a 1270
