Ubuntu :: Add A Account No Options Show Up Other Than The Next?
Aug 24, 2010
I am trying to set up outlook on my Ubuntu i fond a tutorial that uses wine to install office on my box. but the problem that i am having is when i try to add a account no options show up other than the next. does any one know why would this happed?
I configuring samba under Fedora 12, i just set in samba dialog Server Settings->Security and choose guest account: apache. The account is exist io the Samba Server, now i try to login from Windows to Linux share, server asks me login and password, however when i set apache as login and not set password, server asks me login again as the password is incorrect. As i understand under guest acount can login any windows user without the password.
I have Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity 2D running smooth on my machine. I decided to give LXDE a run so I installed the packages from USC. After rebooting the PC, I was expecting to have a list of options on the GDM where I could select LXDE or Lubuntu. But the Session options do not appear in GDM. I selected Lubuntu in my Login Screen Settings but it still logs into Unity 2D after reboot (I've tried options LXDE, Lubuntu Netbook but results the same.) Here is a screenshot of my Login Screen Settings:

So, here's the question: How do I log into LXDE (or any other DE for that matter)? Why doesn't GDM show session options?
Im trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 in a friends laptop, but everytime I put in the disc with the ISO it doesnt show the Ubuntu menu with the Installation options etc, it just starts up Windows normally, and when its on Windows it recognizes the disc and a window pops up showing the files within the disc (the ISO) and it doesnt let me install it.
I use pidgin to chat for my yahoo account. When some one comes on-line I can know that by the sound. I want pidgin to show me the account who just comes on-line, like the feature of yahoo messenger. How can I do that?
in the past i always used debian for servers only (mainly webservers, routers and antispam gateways), but now i have to develop some application for linux so i installed it on a desktop (have always been running windows on my desktops). i am running testing (mainly because i need some more recent packages and working with stable i find myself using backports most of the time). now i have seen that the standard used web browser is iceweasel (which according to sources i found is a firefox fork) but this browser seems to have some troubles:
- videos : always gives me an error in the video frame and i have to clear my cookies and reload the page to make it work for every single video i watch. embedded ..... vids work fine.
- gmail : as soon as i open my gmail account on any tab or iceweasel window all other windows are unuseable (show blank as if the application crashed) but gmail works fine. as soon as i close the iceweasel window where gmail is running all other windows are doing normal again.
- lots of pages display very poorly on iceweasel (misplaced div's, ... etc) : this is nearly always on pages where you find overlayed advertising in div's so i guess this is mainly dued to poor coding of those junk adds (i can live with that).
is there any alternative to iceweasel. especially the gmail part is very annoying, the rest i could live with (but prefer not to). i googled the web for those problems but i mostly found that these problems occured because of some extension (for example : ad blocker) but i don't use those so it didn't solve my problem.
So I have the burned ubuntu CD, and I'm attempting to install it on a system that has one HDD with XP/Vista on it, and another that is completely formatted and unpartitioned. However, when I boot to the ubuntu CD, I can use the menus from the bottom, and select the language when initially prompted, but I can't select any of the menu options except for boot from first hard drive.
I have like 4 email addresses on one Ubuntu One account and I'd like to remove them all except my current email... I also have an old account I'd like to delete. I used the contact form but to no avail.
I have a problem with the Google search box top right corner in Konqueror, when entering search I recieve an error page "Unsupported Protocol" Google asks for ioslave or kioslave. Also when highlighting text on a page and right clicking with the mouse no search option is given. I created a new user and all works as it should for the new user. What is wrong with my user account? I have reset default values in Konqueror setup.
Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
Im pretty sure this is trivial to config, but I havent had any luck searching on google. My situation is: I want to forward any emails sent to my domain to another account. So:
I configured it to use IMAP to access our exchange 2010 server front end on a LAN connection. Our webmail connection is segregated behind Forefront, so it was not connecting/authing that way. Even though smartphones have no problem. (sidenote, is there an activesync linux mail client ?)
I have many root folders and several folders underneath my inbox. total mailsize in inbox is 3.5 GB without subfolders. The sent is likewise as large. And is likewise empty.
Things I checked already: View is all Folder subscription is on and local copy is on
More info: Thunderbird worky fine. But thunderbird is missing calender Tried adding lightening, but it won't add into thunderbird. Will try finding a diff add on, or if anyone knows how to get lightening into thunderbird 3.1.8 on ubuntu 10 that would be great as well.
I have both Ubuntu and Windows XP installed on this computer. This isn't that big of a problem, but I would like to know if there's any way to remove the other four or so boot options for Ubuntu and leave only the 'standard' boot options for Ubuntu and Windows XP. I am new to Linux so I doubt I'll be using those any time soon so I'd like to have them out of my way for the time being.
My GDM screen went to a default screen (my background colour with plain lines). when i go to admin>login screen it's just giving me options to change how many users are available on the gdm. i can't seem to find the manager to change it. running 9.10 on a toshiba satellite.noob here so please let me know if i should provide more details!
I just bought an Acer Aspire 7535-5415 laptop with Windows 7. I have burned ubuntu onto a cd. When I try to boot up the laptop with the cd in the drive it just boots up windows as it would normally and I don't get an options to install ubuntu or anything. I've tried both a cd that I burned and an official cd I picked up in the computing science department at my university. The same thing happens in both cases.
Im trying to make backups using tar, and incremental backups using --newer. The scripts are:
Code: tar -czvf $DISKPATH/backupRepos.tgz /home/repos/ --exclude /home/repos/Temp for general backup (on saturdays) and Code: tar -czvf --newer="`date -r $DISKPATH/backupRepos.tgz +%F`" $DISKPATH/backupRepos-inc.tgz /home/repos/ --exclude /home/repos/Temp/ for incremental the rest of the week.
The problem is that the first script runs OK, excluding /home/repos/Temp from the backup, but on the second, it makes incremental OK, but doesnt exclude Temp folder. Anybody knows how can i fix this script to continue making incremental but excluding also?
I just downloaded the Release candidate, for 10.04, and as I was testing it on VirtualBox, I notice that the LiveCD option, (or Test ), is missing? Should I re-download, or it's an error from VBox?
I don't have unlimited bandwith, I was lucky enough to download 2 ISO's yesterday, cause there was nobody where I live, so I could use the WiFi all I could. What do you think, bad ISO, or problem with VBox?
I installed 10.4 netbook, but it doesn't have the same panel as previous versions. I like things like multiple desk tops, main menu, and placing the clock in the center, but I cannot find anyway to adjust this stuff. Is there a solution?
I seem to get different options depending on the user. On my main, admin user, when I click on the `power button` icon on the right of my taskbar, I get a choice of:
shutdown restart suspend hibernate
and if I want to log off I click on the start button.but when I log on as my `guest` user, who has next to no permissions, I get log off, switch user etc on the `power button` icon. It would be nice to have all these options on the `power button` icon on my admin user. Can this be achieved? Why are they different?
I've got an odd problem with the keyboard layout options.
I use caps as an additional control, as set in Keyboard Preferences > Layout > Options. However, I recently came across an issue where Shift + Space does not send space, so I go into the options to set space at any level to fix it, and while the option appears to have been selected, there is no change in behavior.
upgraded to 10.04 on pangolin performance laptopset power option to never suspend or hibernate or shut down using AC or batteryhowever...the system suspends after a few minutes of idle time, requiring a password to log back on
I had bought a new wifi card(rtl8185) and spent 2 days trying to make it work. I finally got it working but now I am experiencing some other problems.
First of all I get two many bootup options. Before I used to have 4 generic options(2 different kernels with each of them having their own recovery), memtest and then my win7. Now I am having those plus 4 server options and 4 preemp(no clue what this is) options. I am suspicious that this has to do with some command I ran: sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-wireless-* I got some notify at that point about broken packages. I followed the instructions given and made the messages dissapear(I don't remember excactly what I did). Then when I saw that it shows all those bootup options I tryied sudo apt-get remove linux-backports-modules-wireless-server and sudo apt-get remove linux-backports-modules-wireless-preemp but that didn't solve anything.
My second problem is that in startup now even if I choose the generic option it doesn't load the gui but just gives me the command prompt so I have to run startx each time. I am kind of a noobie in linux but would like to learn so please give me some guidance. I thought of reinstalling a fresh copy of Ubuntu-desktop but it's just too hard work. So I would be grateful if you could tip me on how fixing the problem as it is. I run Ubuntu 10.04 x64
Title pretty much says it. As you can see from my screenshot, my effects list is far shorter than it's supposed to be, a quarter the size of what I had on my hardy desktop. The main effects that are driving me insane not having are 3D windows, e.g. windows hover above the desktop cube in order of use, and water sloshing around in the cube as I rotate it. Are these now options under an effect? I couldn't find them anywhere. Running 32 bit lucid on a laptop with a good graphics card.
i found it strange that when i connect my usb stick in ubuntu and if i want to copy a file to the stick it is not getting listed on the right click > copy to > options. There is only home and desktop. Is there any way to add my rest of windows drive or removable drives?
