When I close the windows they remain as the background image until something else is moved in its place. This becomes really annoying as I close something and still think it's open. It becomes very distracting. Has anyone had this issue or know what to search to find information on this because I wasn't sure.
View 2 RepliesI finally have my conky source file just the way I want it, at least for now. When I want to display conky, I open terminal and simply type in conky. Then I can see the actual conky display. But when I close terminal, conky disappears. How can I make it remain visible?

I have a down arrow, an X and a - on the top of my pages when I hit the - the page disappears but still stays active, example im on ..... and I hit that expecting to minimize but the page closes and I cannot retrieve it but whatever I was viewing continues to play. when I hit the down arrow the page just kinda shuffles to a different side of the screen and is basically useless.

Since then everything looks fine, but the panels (the one at the top with menus and date, and the one at the bottom with the running applications and the virtual desktops). I have a dual screen, and the panels show on the wrong one... I already changed the display setting, trying to inverse the screens, but the panel always remain on the wrong screen.

Note: I used the gui to create the share (if that matters). Once I get the share permanent, the next thing I'll want to do is automatically mount it from another Ubuntu Desktop computer on the network.
Note: this will be a "peer to peer" network. I don't have Ubuntu Server and don't intend to get it. Just have two Ubuntu Desktop computers.

I have been noticing a distinct slow down in my Fedora of late, and today, with no program running, I called up System Monitor and low and behold, Firefox was running in memory, and taking up 1/2 (50%) of 2 GB of RAM! View 4 Replies View RelatedI was going to pull the trigger and do the "natty" upgrade. Before I do I had a few questions. Basically, I changed a few config settings on my ubuntu 10.10 load. I made it so I can connect to it remotely via ssh and open a secure desktop session. I changed some port settings so it doesn't use the traditional ssh 22 port and traditional xrdp port was change also. So, I'm wondering if my "tweaks" will remain intact after the update or if I'll have to go back in and reconfigure those settings? I'm running 10.10 on my PIII 600 with an old ATI Radeon 64 graphics card. I'm quite happy with 10.10 but if I can upgrade to "natty" will little problems I'd like to. Also, my default GUI is xfce. Also, here's my system as shown by lspci:

I would like to be able to access my data file that reside on my Linux machine at home from the Internet but I don't want to open any "doors" for lack of a better word that will compromise the security of my files. I am running F11 and I am using cable broadband and a Linksys router.I have been able to get ssh working with OpenSSH while I am at home but I don't really need or want to ssh remotely, I would rather setup what I think is called an ftp. I just want to be able to up and download files to my Linux machine.

I use Multiple Desktops, however when I change my Desktop I still see the applications from the previous workspace. This takes up a lot of space on the Taskbar.
I have the following settings at Application Launcher-> TaskBar;
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop
-checked: Sort windows by desktop
Are there any other changes that I need to make.
