Software :: Uninstalling Gwibber Facebook Statuses Remain?
May 16, 2011
I tested out Ubuntu 11.04's facebook status program called gwibber. I found the status updates always popping up a little annoying so I uninstalled it. But the statuses keep appearing.I still use the chat program empathy internet messaging, I wouldn't have to remove that too would I?

I am having a problem getting my facebook account to add to gwibber. I have searched the forum for the last couple of days and found several others with an identical problem but to date no solution is offered other than keep trying.I have run gwibber in terminal and attempted to add the account. Below is the output. For information I am trying to add an existing account not create a new account.
joe@Joe-nidhi:~$ gwibber
** (gwibber:1986): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'WnckWindowState' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'[code]....

Lucid is adamn good release and in my opinion, one of the best till date. If I have to rate Lucid on its OOB Factor (Out Of Box), I would rate it 9.7/10.I have an AMD based laptop with ATI graphics chipset and this used to be a major headache (ATI's fault ofcourse) previously and I was gearing up for another hour or so of installing the video drivers from ATI and getting it to work.But,suprisingly it just worked out of the box with visual effects enabled. Every component on my machine worked as it ought to be.
I cant say enough about the interface overhaul. Its like a F16 got upgraded with some slick Alien technology. Ubuntu 10.04 is surely a GOLD standard for all Linux Distros out there. Coming to this minor issue, I am unable to add the facebook account in Me Menu via gwibber. It takes the login credentials and prompts me to allow or deny publishing to facebook. Clicking on allow doesn't do anything, it just sits there.

I have a problem with gwibber. It has emerged randomly for no apparent reason as I have not changed any settings. All of a sudden, when updating my status on Facebook, and I click send, gwibber appears to work for a while, and then just nothing happens. My status does not get updated. It works fine with Twitter. It's only facebook. I have checked my application settings in Facebook and gwibber has full permission to post.#
I tried setting up the account again in gwibber, but this just opened a can of worms, because I had to reinstall gwibber and delete all of the config files in order to reinstate my facebook account, (see URL...)due to a bug in gwibber, which was a pain.

I used to use Gwibber as social networks aggregator/client, but starting since last update (current version 3.1.0) it crashes miserably on both Fedora 14 and Fedora 15.
Gwibber team looks reluctant to provide any feedback on whether this shall be fixed in foreseeable future. Installing Gwibber from the last stable sources gives the same crash.

why Empathy always shows ICQ statuses offline.
It is Empathy 2.32.0.1; Ubuntu 10.10 x86_64; upgraded once, from Ubuntu 10.04(the bug had place there also).
Tried completely reinstall it:
Code:
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge empathy telepathy
$ rm -rf /home/ruslan/now/empathy /home/ruslan/.cache/telepathy /home/ruslan/.config/Empathy
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install empathy
[Code]....

After a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10 I uninstalled empathy (im using skype). The empathy menu in the evolution indicator was gone after that.I also uninstalled gwibber. But the gwibber status indicator remains within the about-me panel... Uninstalling the gwibber package also removes the me-menu which I want to keep actually. Especially the shutdown/restart... part of it. See attachment.I know there is a shutdown panel-app...but its butt-ugly and it doesnt allow to logon/off.
In another thread I read that the gwibber status shouldnt be there if no account for it is configured... which it is not... I do use ubuntu-one though which is in the same menu... I saw that this issue was addressed at some bug report before, but not fixed yet...
Does anybody know a good workaround to get rid of the gwibber status in the panel while keeping the about me and the shutdown button?

I have been noticing a distinct slow down in my Fedora of late, and today, with no program running, I called up System Monitor and low and behold, Firefox was running in memory, and taking up 1/2 (50%) of 2 GB of RAM! How does one stop this behaviour? How do I make Firefox stop running when I close it?

When I close the windows they remain as the background image until something else is moved in its place. This becomes really annoying as I close something and still think it's open. It becomes very distracting. Has anyone had this issue or know what to search to find information on this because I wasn't sure.

I am wondering if my 10.10 Gnome settings, preferences, color schemes, themes and so on will remain after installing 11.04 and selecting Classic as the default? These live in a separate /home partition, which I obviously will not be formatting.

I had to reinstall Windows recently, which reset my clock under Linux. No problem, I set the clock, and then set the hardware clock to the system clock. Rebooted under Windows, and both were fine. After rebooting into Slack, it is again a few hours off. How can I change this permanently?

I would like to be able to access my data file that reside on my Linux machine at home from the Internet but I don't want to open any "doors" for lack of a better word that will compromise the security of my files. I am running F11 and I am using cable broadband and a Linksys router.I have been able to get ssh working with OpenSSH while I am at home but I don't really need or want to ssh remotely, I would rather setup what I think is called an ftp. I just want to be able to up and download files to my Linux machine.

After I do a recommended SELinux change from an alert:
'grep blender /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol'
the next time I boot, I have to add the rule again. How would I make this permanent? Can this only be done with the SELinux Policy Generation Tool? I've tried making bug reports for some SELinux warnings.

I use Multiple Desktops, however when I change my Desktop I still see the applications from the previous workspace. This takes up a lot of space on the Taskbar.
I have the following settings at Application Launcher-> TaskBar;
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop
-checked: Sort windows by desktop
Are there any other changes that I need to make.

I just updated my Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10. Since then everything looks fine, but the panels (the one at the top with menus and date, and the one at the bottom with the running applications and the virtual desktops). I have a dual screen, and the panels show on the wrong one... I already changed the display setting, trying to inverse the screens, but the panel always remain on the wrong screen.

Every time I share a folder (using Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop), the share is gone after I reboot. How can I make it a permanent share that persists?
Note: I used the gui to create the share (if that matters). Once I get the share permanent, the next thing I'll want to do is automatically mount it from another Ubuntu Desktop computer on the network.
Note: this will be a "peer to peer" network. I don't have Ubuntu Server and don't intend to get it. Just have two Ubuntu Desktop computers.
