Ubuntu :: (Gnome) Panel Shortcut Not Working?
Mar 16, 2011I've been using Ubuntu for years now, and I don't think I've ever seen this problem before. I've given as much relevant detail as I can think of below;On Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit), I have compiled TOra 2.1.2 from source (obtained from the repo) to enable Oracle support. I need to run it socksified, which works just fine by executing it from the terminal:Code:toxsocks torHowever, a panel shortcut using that exact command doesn't launch anything.I don't think it has to do with the `toxsocks` part, as I have a Firefox launcher using a similar command working perfectly:

Apr 14, 2011I've checked under system>preferences>keyboard shortcuts, and the shortcut is enabled but not working.Is there another setting that is conflicting somewhere that i can't find?Something to do with CompizConfig settings manager? (I think but can't be sure that's when they stopped working)

May 9, 2011I somehow managed to screw up my 'switch between windows shortcut' when changing the settings for compiz. Now I cannot get it to work at all, despite trying to solutions on this and other forums. I removed compiz with the software center and my alt-tab shortcut still didn't work--although it IS enabled and set correctly in the System Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts menu. I reset the alt-tab combo so something else (alt-space, which works for its normal setting of bringing down the window's dropdown menu) but it still did not work to switch between windows.

Dec 21, 2010i am trying to set some custom keyboard shortcuts using compiz in the commands section...but it is not working. For example , i want to use kaffeine and i am using as command the word kaffeine. When i use it in the custom commpand of compiz it is not working at all. Just to be sure that the command is indeed "kaffeine" i execute it via terminal using the word "kaffeine" and it is executed normaly. I am 100% sure that the command is only for terminal use and as general launcher. The same behavior is observed for other applications. The strange thing is that when i want to put a custom keyboard shortcut in compiz for a python script then the command "python xxx.py" is working!

Oct 31, 2015I'm a huge keyboard shortcut fan. I can't stand mice. So this is a big one for me.
My Alt+F10 (maximize) and Alt+F9 (minimize) keyboard shortcuts work just fine. I read everywhere (i.e., [URL]) that the Alt+F5 combo should unmaximize a maximized window. But it's not working. Can't find anything that says Debian excludes that combo.
Is this to be expected or is something amiss? I think its meant to be a default shortcut, so don't want to start playing around with customizations prematurely.
Searched through the forum, couldn't find anything under the following search terms: Alt F5; Alt+F5: Alt +F5: Alt-F5: maximize: unmaximize. Did I miss the magic string?

OpenSUSE :: Suspend To Ram Shortcut Not Working 11.4?
Apr 30, 2011This isn't the biggest deal in the world, but I would like to know how to suspend to ram with qdbus in order to make a shortcut. I used to (11.3) do: qdbus org.kde.kded /modules/powerdevil suspend 2 and make the shortcut meta S. Now in 11.4 if I manually type it into terminal qdbus says it cannot find .suspend in /modules/powerdevil at org.kde.kded. Did something change in 11.4? I also tried accessing it from org.kde.Solid.PowerManagement to no avail.

May 12, 2011On my main PC (10.04) I have Alt+1,Alt+2 etc configured to jump to that specific workspace and ctrl+Alt+1,ctrl+alt+2 etc to move the focused window to the specific workspace and it works fine. Trying to replicate that on my netbook (11.04/unity) however fails. I can set the keyboard shortcuts up to switch to different workspaces but the shortcuts to move a window to a specific workspace just dont seem to work. The default RSI inducing default ctrl+shift+alt+(up,down,left & right) to move a window to an adjacent workspace does however. Is this specific to my install? If not how do i file a bug report?

Jan 1, 2011I use Opensuse 11.3. I had configured my Gnome so that when I press the home hotkey it launches Firefox (the standard web browser). And I configured Firefox so that it starts on my selected home page. Everything worked out right until I installed and trie KDE yesterday. When I went back to Gnome and pressed the home key it launchs Firefox but rather than appearing my home page on it what appears is the content of my home folder. I got so mad at it that I uninstalled everything related to KDE. Deleted .mozilla folder, what reset Firefox. Nothing worked at all! I deleted the folder that stores keyboard shortcuts on Gnome, what reset all shortcuts. But when I redefine the home key or any other key to launch web browser, what the key does is to launch Firefox with the content of my home folder.when I launch Firefox from menu it starts on the home page I selected. When I launch it from any custom hotkey it starts on my home folder.It may seem a little thing but it is so disgusting for me that sometimes I even feel willing to re-install the whole system, and i just didn't so because it took me several days to configure it the way it is.Does anyone know what is happening here and how can I change it?

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Shortcut For Ssh?
May 10, 2010I recently switched from GNOME to xfce, and I can't get working a simple keyboard shortcut to ssh to another machine.
In GNOME, I made a launcher (which gnome-do found); the first time I ran the launcher I'd get an X11 popup asking for by ssh passphrase, and then it would be saved for the rest of the GNOME session, making logins nice and fast.
In xfce, a similar launcher opens a new xfce4-terminal, which asks for the passphrase every time. I made a keyboard shortcut to "ssh -X me@server" -- this open an X11 popup for the passphrase, but no terminal, because there is no "run in terminal" option for keyboard shortcuts.
I'd be okay with running "ssh-add" at every login, but it has to be system-wide, rather than attached to one terminal instance. Passphraseless ssh is an options but a creepy one.
Ubuntu :: Getting Icon For A Shortcut?
Jul 30, 2010I just downloaded flock browser as a tar.bz2 file. I extracted into a drive other than home in my pc. Then in system>preferences>main menu, I created a new item under menu>applications>internet and pointed to "flock-browser". The application works fine but I don't get that flock icon in the menu. Is there any way to get it? Its actually present in "icons" folder inside the flock folder.

Jun 10, 2010I like a lot the keyboard shortcuts that are available in Windows 7 for managing windows across multiple screens and would like to replicate them in ubuntu. So far I created shortcuts for moving windows from one screen to another.
WinKey + Left: Move active window to the left screen
wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -e 0,0,-1,-1,-1
WinKey + Right: Move active window to the right screen
wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -e 0,1280,-1,-1,-1
Now when you press WinKey+P in Win7 you get a nice menu where you can select if you want only monitor1, monitor2 or both. I would like to at least create shortcuts to switch between these modes. For example bind WinKey+1 to turn only monitor1 on, WinKey+2 for m2 and something else to have both monitors on.

Jun 10, 2010In cairo-dock when I hover over the 'shortcuts' applet it shows me what's in my 'places' menu, but I have to click twice on any object to open it, and then it opens two instances of whatever I opened. As in I click once, could wait up to an hour probably, then click again and finally it opens up but twice.

2. made another shortcut for "log out" (is ctrl-alt-delete default)
3. then "add" name=Ctrl-Alt-Delete and command=gnome-system-monitor
Now my new custom shortcut is disabled. How can i enable this?

Jul 8, 2010I got this Dell Studio and the f keys are kind of odd.. first of all you have to press fn to even use them.. because theyve defaulted them to be things like: fast forward.. mute.. stuff like that.. and what makes it worse is f2 is a button that disables wifi.. so when i do alt-f2 out of habit it cuts my wifi off.. so i have to do fn-alt-f2 which just gets old.. my question is, what is the raw command for the RUN ? Dec 22, 2010I am experiencing problems with keyboard shortcuts. It started to happen after I installed gnome shell and switched back to gdk. the most annoying part is that every single keyboard shortcut works except the most used one AKA "run a terminal"
first I thought it had something to do with shortcuts in compiz but no. I changed the keyboard shortcut for "run a terminal" to something wild like CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+N and it still doesn't work. That command is not doing anything... Can i add my custom commands to keyboard shortcuts and how?
