Note: Firefox does not have this problem.
I can't input Japanese charactersn KWriteough the input works in all other applications as far as I know). Does anyone have an idea what the cause might be, or what I should be looking at?The point is not that can't see the characters (but e.g. gibberish instead), but that the characters that I type in the input bar are not transfered into KWrite upon commit.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis isn't the biggest deal in the world, but I would like to know how to suspend to ram with qdbus in order to make a shortcut. I used to (11.3) do: qdbus org.kde.kded /modules/powerdevil suspend 2 and make the shortcut meta S. Now in 11.4 if I manually type it into terminal qdbus says it cannot find .suspend in /modules/powerdevil at org.kde.kded. Did something change in 11.4? I also tried accessing it from org.kde.Solid.PowerManagement to no avail.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Opensuse 11.3. I had configured my Gnome so that when I press the home hotkey it launches Firefox (the standard web browser). And I configured Firefox so that it starts on my selected home page. Everything worked out right until I installed and trie KDE yesterday. When I went back to Gnome and pressed the home key it launchs Firefox but rather than appearing my home page on it what appears is the content of my home folder. I got so mad at it that I uninstalled everything related to KDE. Deleted .mozilla folder, what reset Firefox. Nothing worked at all! I deleted the folder that stores keyboard shortcuts on Gnome, what reset all shortcuts. But when I redefine the home key or any other key to launch web browser, what the key does is to launch Firefox with the content of my home folder.when I launch Firefox from menu it starts on the home page I selected. When I launch it from any custom hotkey it starts on my home folder.It may seem a little thing but it is so disgusting for me that sometimes I even feel willing to re-install the whole system, and i just didn't so because it took me several days to configure it the way it is.Does anyone know what is happening here and how can I change it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a permissions question that I'm sure has a simple answer but one I can't find. When saving files through SSH using kate or kwrite, the permissions always reset to 644 when I want them to stay at 666/777. When using notepad (not sure what this is, it's just in my right click contex menu under "open with...") the permissions persisted after I saved. Permissions also persist with kate and kwrite on my local machine.
Is this something I need to configure on the server? Using Opensuse 11.2, kde 4.3, kwrite 4.3.1-5.6.3, kate 4.3.1-3.7
I need to change attributes in my /etc/fstab file.
I cant change my fstab file because apparently Kwrite only crashes when accessed by Konsole in SU mode.

I have a dual XP/suse11.3 system. I even removed my old Suse along with all its partitions, leaving only the NTFS XP, re-downloaded the 11.3 ISO image, burned a new fresh install disk and reinstalled 11.3. I updated the software in YaST.
I still can't modify my fstab file. But I can locate the file in Dolphin and click it to open in a Kwrite window. Read only of course.
After upgrading to KDE4.7 I would get the error message, "A KDE text-editor component could not be found. Please check your KDE installation.", when I clicked on text files. The all knowing Google provided no answer so I am leaving my solution here in case others are as unfortunate.
For some reason kdelibs3-32bit is pulled in when I upgraded to kde 4.7, removing it fixed the problem.
I am working on a English (US) KDE installation of opensuse 11.2 with a US keyboard and I have some troubles to configure my system in order to work on some French documents using Kate, Kwrite or Eclipse.
For instance, when I save the content of this link [url] on my hard-drive and open the file in Kate, Kwrite or Eclipse, all accentuated characters are displayed as black lozenge signs with a ? inside. What should I fix in my configuration to have those characters show correctly?
A related but maybe slightly different situation is the following: In Eclipse, when I use a French keyboard layout in Eclipse (using the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + K after setup in Configure Desktop > Regional & Language), I can type and display accentuated characters correctly. However, as soon as I spell check my document (I believe Eclipse use aspell for that), all the words containing the accentuated characters that I typed are shown as being wrong. Eclipse suggests some corrections that show up with black lozenge signs with a ? inside...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a huge keyboard shortcut fan. I can't stand mice. So this is a big one for me.
My Alt+F10 (maximize) and Alt+F9 (minimize) keyboard shortcuts work just fine. I read everywhere (i.e., [URL]) that the Alt+F5 combo should unmaximize a maximized window. But it's not working. Can't find anything that says Debian excludes that combo.
Is this to be expected or is something amiss? I think its meant to be a default shortcut, so don't want to start playing around with customizations prematurely.
Searched through the forum, couldn't find anything under the following search terms: Alt F5; Alt+F5: Alt +F5: Alt-F5: maximize: unmaximize. Did I miss the magic string?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI somehow managed to screw up my 'switch between windows shortcut' when changing the settings for compiz. Now I cannot get it to work at all, despite trying to solutions on this and other forums. I removed compiz with the software center and my alt-tab shortcut still didn't work--although it IS enabled and set correctly in the System Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts menu. I reset the alt-tab combo so something else (alt-space, which works for its normal setting of bringing down the window's dropdown menu) but it still did not work to switch between windows.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi am trying to set some custom keyboard shortcuts using compiz in the commands section...but it is not working. For example , i want to use kaffeine and i am using as command the word kaffeine. When i use it in the custom commpand of compiz it is not working at all. Just to be sure that the command is indeed "kaffeine" i execute it via terminal using the word "kaffeine" and it is executed normaly. I am 100% sure that the command is only for terminal use and as general launcher. The same behavior is observed for other applications. The strange thing is that when i want to put a custom keyboard shortcut in compiz for a python script then the command "python xxx.py" is working!
View 8 Replies View RelatedOn my main PC (10.04) I have Alt+1,Alt+2 etc configured to jump to that specific workspace and ctrl+Alt+1,ctrl+alt+2 etc to move the focused window to the specific workspace and it works fine. Trying to replicate that on my netbook (11.04/unity) however fails. I can set the keyboard shortcuts up to switch to different workspaces but the shortcuts to move a window to a specific workspace just dont seem to work. The default RSI inducing default ctrl+shift+alt+(up,down,left & right) to move a window to an adjacent workspace does however. Is this specific to my install? If not how do i file a bug report?

For shifting forward, we select the required part and press tab the number of times we want to move forward.
What's to be done for shifting the same backwards other than pressing Ctrl-Z?
In krusader (root mode), I want to edit a plain text file that can only be edited as su. When clicking on the file opened kwrite before, now I get this krusader error message: "KDEInit couldn't launch 'usr/bin/kwrite' OK"
Why is this happening? What's wrong? I've found that this problem begins on the second try to open the file-- for the first time clicking on it, kwrite opens it for editing but not on tries following the first one made in the same computer session. Rebooting fixes the problem but only for the first new opening of the file.
I recently installed Opensuse 11.2 on my Acer 3680 laptop. One problem I have notice is that while I can mute my volume control using the keyboard shortcuts, I cannot unmute it using the keyboard short cut. When I press the keyboard shortcut, which is maped to XF86audiomute, it display the popup indicating that the control is unmute, the control is not really unmute. I can unmute it by using the volumen control in the system tray.
I am puzzled, this did not happen under Fedora 12 nor Linux Mint 8 / Ubuntu 9.10. What could be the cause of the issue and what can I do to locate the source of the problem?
I rebuild my desktop after deleting my plasma config files but for the life of me cannot figure out how to place application shorts onto the panel. The solutions I found by googling don't seem to apply to KDE4.4.0 or oS's implementation of it.
I've tried right clicking on the panel which according to KDE's docs should bring up a context menu which has the option to add application to the panel. This does not exist on my installation.
Possibly a silly question, but here goes...In 11.1 and below I set a key shortcut to lock the screen when I push Meta+L. However, I can't seem to find a way to do this in 11.2. the program starts perfectly fine. I want now a click-able icon on the desktop (KDE3.5). So when I produce the application shortcut, no matter how I do define the command, it will not start. I did put Command: matlab (tried also matlab glnx86) I joined in advanced: start in terminal (but it does not work either) I did join the complete and correct path...... Somehow....I do not understand why it starts from the console in user-mode without problems with the command but not while using a shortcut.

When I looked at the permissions of the other app icons, they were owned by me, the user.Why did plasma make my newly created app launcher owned by root?I'm so used to the way KDE 3 worked. It was so much simpler. I could click anywhere on that desktop to add shortcuts and they were owned by me, not root. I don't understand why they changed this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOS: OpenSuse 11.3 / 32-bit / Gnome. Updates to latest.Issue: while using uTorrent Server Alpha (for Linux) i have encountered a shortcut malfunction. After the program was successfully installed (by that, i mean download and simply modify its settings to be able to execute it as a program, and double click on it & keep it running in a Terminal) and ran for the first time, it came to me that i should make a shortcut to the program, on one of my two "taskbars". So i simply created one and correctly pointed to the application (i left it on my desktop). But after restart, i tried to access it via this shortcut and it indeed started, but returned an error, that the graphical interface (html based) situated and :8080/gui/ was not there, and that it should be downloaded. So i stopped it and went to the desktop folder & ran it in a terminal and VOILA, no problem, everything was good as new.
PS: i was not running the program under sudo and i changed its default login configuration (from a simple "admin" username, to a proper username and password).
However, I miss the keyboard shortcut options under kde. For instance, I would like to open various software (Chromium, Gimp, etc) with a simple F2, F3 etc. I am assuming I will need to load a start-up application/script to do this.

How can I activate the keyboard shortcut ALT+SHIFT+TAB to switch to the previous window (As opposite to ALT+TAB)?I'm using gnome, I went to the keyboard shortcut panel, but I didn't know how to add a new action (one that is not already there).I also use another distro (Mandriva) on another computer, also with gnome and that key combination is already there, which is very useful for me.
