View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been looking for a alternative terminal to work in while using F15. I've done some Googleing and came across Konsole as being the most feature rich terminal. I'd like a terminal that provides a lot of features so I could possibly increase my efficiency. If something is KDE like Konsole does that mean I have to install the whole KDE environment? If so is there any Fedora terminal alternatives?

and found that most of relevant complaints was about
a bug in video card driver.
My problem is -
For some unknown reason, I can't resize the Konsole window horizontally while I can still resize vertically. This is bad as the corrent width of Konsole window fills the entire screen!

i have created a shortcut for konsole on desktop, if i click on icon all desktop is freezing for 10-15 seconds before konsole is launched. if i have the same aplication overlapped in taskbar and i click once same thing is happening, desktop is freezing before select menu is appear.
I am trying to set up a simple script to automatically invoke streamripper to record my favourite radio shows. The script works fine in a terminal window (Konsole), but when scheduling this as a cron job (KCron via SystemSettings) a Konsole window pops up catching the streamripper output.
Now stramripper can behave with the --quiet option, and I set output redirects "> /dev/null 2>&1". Inside the script or on the command line of KCron.
Quote:
sh myscript.txt >/dev/null 2>&1
...or just as the script without the "sh" command. Same result. Still the same annoying Konsole terminal window pops up, now with no other content than what Cron obviously generates at the end of the script execution:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
End of script execution. Type Enter or Ctrl+C to exit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, the whole point of this cron scheduling was to avoid manual intervention and create the MP3 file of the radio show automatically. how to avoid the terminal window completely?

How do I go about adding Konsole (or any other terminal) to startup? I do not have the Startup Applications in a menu list - as I am only using a distro <i>based</i> on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just started having some problem after switching my desktop manager from GNome to KDE. One of such situation is the konsole on KDE not running popular commands like ifconfig that I run when I was using GNome.
Although, I have fallen in love with KDE, I am feeling a little bereaved of some feature. where I could use KDE to mastery? (Because I want to believe that I am not doing somethings I should and not that KDE is so limited)
If it is possible to execute fortune command when i start a new konsole session.

View 5 Replies View RelatedNobody else seems to be reporting this, so I guess it's down to my setup in some way, but when I run vim from a konsole window under KDE 4.3.3, I find that the konsole screen messes up during the session (feels as if it is writing with background colour on the background or something) and even when you leave vim by typing the right exit commands, display remains upset (most often confined to leftmost 20-30 columns). Konsole "clear and reset" does not help, I have to close the session and start a new instance.
Maybe connected to the konsole settings I use which are "black on light yellow"?
Should I have something in by .vimrc or konsole configuration to fix this ?
How do I run application as root, without using Konsole?Sometimes I wish to start task manager on system level, but I dont want to use console. I wish to know how, from KDE4 logged as user, run app as root.

I'm trying to install the new version of hplip and the process stops with an error message stating there is no network access.
I tried to ping a known address and sure enough, no response.
I shut off the firewall on this machine. I shut off the firewall on my router. No access from Konsole.
Is there some setting I can't find?
Konsole (when in root) fails to start up after it is used once (i.e., opened, work performed, closed/terminated). Bouncing cursor does its thing on second and subsequent uses, but times out normally and Konsole window never appears. Stock install from DVD.
View 6 Replies View RelatedGot a problem with fonts in 'Konsole'-windows. 'Bold' fonts are being cut off at the last letter. Sometimes only half the letter is visible, sometimes the letter is completely invisible. No problems with fonts in xterm. Set the standards in '/etc/DIR_COLORS', but the problem still exists in (for example):
- man-pages (headings)
- perldoc (headings)
- vi (infos at bottom, like -- INSERT --)
- ...
Is there a solution to turn off bold fonts in Konsole completely? Would be my favourite! I'm using OpenSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.4.4 "release 2"...
I do not see an option to set a Background image for Konsole. Has this been removed? I see color and transparency options.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI notice that in 11.4 when I try to autocomplete (Tab Key) to /etc or /etc/init.d/ it auto completes differently than the way it did in other 11.x openSUSE versions. i.e.
Code:
sudo /et
Then hit tab; it auto completes to /etc (space on the end of it)
Also,
Code:
sudo /etc/init.
Then hit tab; it auto completes to /etc/init.d (space on the end of it)
If I simply try:
Code:
/et
Then hit tab; it auto completes properly to /etc/
I'm looking for a Konsole equivalent for Gnome.I don't want a Quake-style dropdown console. I like tabs and the ability to send a command to all tabs.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAt yesterday night i run a slackpkg update and then slackpkg upgrade-all. i deselect all kernel related entries, and all others ( dont remeber precisely, but approx 15 - 20 packages, i e kde related) i get to update.
After that i shut system down and going to sleep. today i start my eeepc 900 with slackware 13.0 after that update and see i cannot run "Terminal" link on desktop. ok, go to "start", "system", "konsole terminal". from first look in konsole window i see whatever not ok - window background is grey, not black as usual.
when i run mc in this window, look like a monitor contrast is set to minimum, and brightness to maximum - very hard to see files, etc. all is very much light and small contrast.
I check kde windows - all its ok, brightness and contrast in konkueror windows and overall is ok -as same as previously times. i switch to ctrl-alt-f6 to native console - again, all is ok - background is black, all is ok.
i e problem is only with Konsole-Terminal under KDE. looks for configfiles / etc - nothing faund. no man entry for terminal nur console.
