Jun 4, 2010The sound works and all. Plus there's an empty space which seems like there use to be an icon there. I have an ICEauthority error when I turn on my computer.

It used to be listed under "Volume"-something, in the "Add to Panel" window, but it's disappeared.....

Jun 25, 2010Alright, at first, the volume control went missing from the indicator applet, but then re-adding it to the panel didn't do anything but add a mail/chat applet. So I tried to reset the indicator applet settings with this code...
And now all that happens when I add the indicator applet to the panel is that the text: "No indicators" pops up where the mail/chat applet was before. Is there a way to get the volume applet back into the panel?
Ubuntu :: Conflict Between Indicator Applet And Notification Area Applet?
May 15, 2011I was using both the Indicator Applet and the Notification Area applets in my panel but realized that very often when I started the system, the icons of these applet appeared mixed. Some items were duplicated (for example the keyboard indicator) where others were missing (sometimes the battery indicator, sometimes the sound indicator, etc). When that happened I had to remove them and add them to panel again.
This seems to be a bug that makes one applet interfere with the other (maybe because there are some items that appear in both but when you add both initially nothing is duplicated but after a system restart the problem happens).After searching for some way to fix this apparent bug without success I decided to remove the Indicator applet and keep just the Notification Area.
It works but then I don't have the sound applet anymore, because it was part of the Indicator Applet.
I searched for a standalone sound applet but I couldn't find any. Do you know of any such applet that I could install in the system? If I can find any it would be fine to me and I would be satisfied using just the Notification Area.
Ubuntu :: Default Volume To 100% In Terminal With Gnome-volume-control-applet?
Jul 17, 2010Is there a way to default volume to 100% in the terminal with gnome-volume-control-applet or any other program? I am setting up a dedicated Zsnes machine which boots into Fluxbox but the volume is muted by default. There isn't a man page for gnome-volume-control-applet.
When I log into Gnome the volume is set to 100%, but Fluxbox is always set to mute.

Oct 22, 2010i'm running ubuntu 10.04 x86 on my laptop and the following problem occured recently; i made a mistake and tried to remove the monitors icon by finally removing more than i hoped for :/ BUT that didn't disappear the whole notification area...i was left with the wireless icon and the input language switcher so i can't restore the battery icon and the sound icon and the mail/chat envelope icon.

Although I can connect to the Internet, I am not able to set up my VPN without an icon showing up.

Ubuntu :: Get Pidgin To Use Mail Notification Applet For New Emails?
Apr 25, 2011I run Ubuntu with Unity. I see a Mail Notification applet in the tray that announces unread mail (from Evolution) and incoming IMs from Empathy. I uninstalled both programs, and replaced the IM program with Pidgin. (I don't have a preferred email client yet.)
Now Pidgin lets me know whether I have received new email messages from the services it is connected to. These notifications show up in the Buddy List window. Is there a way to get Pidgin to use the Mail Notification applet instead? I read in their site that "Pidgin was not designed to be an email client" but it would seem that all the pieces are in place to reroute those notifications to the mail notification applet.
Optionally, it would also be cool if when I clicked on those notifications, a browser window would open up to the webmail account the notification came from. (I have both Windows Live and Gmail accounts.)

Mar 11, 2011I'd like to know how to remove the monitor settings icon from from notification area applet in 11.4. You see, I'm using nvidia drivers with nvidia-settings program, so this little icon is irrelevant to me, also it uses up free visual space.

Jan 23, 2010My networking seems to be OK but when any changes are made the NetworkManager Applet 0.7.996 (I think) in the panel pops up a small window ~ 300*80 pixels which displays some faint coloured lines and dotted lines where, presumably, there should be a message of some form. How can I configure it to get the message?

Apr 12, 2010This happened upon boot-up this morning. Two volume control iconspeared in the notification area. One volume control icon is the real thing, the other appears to overwrite the network manager icon, which isn't showing up at all. If I left click on the "dummy" icon, it does nothing. If I right click and select About, it describes itself as the notification area, the same as if I right click on the little = handle to the left of the notification area. Ubuntu 9.10, system up-to-date.

Nov 1, 2010I was wondering if there is some ind of way of removing the rhythmbox link in the volume menu in the indicator applet..It's just that I hardly use it and it's pretty annoying and redundant as well having it there. Dec 25, 2010Hi. I have Ubuntu 10.04, nm-applet is running in the background, my battery icon and sound icon are showing but my network icon has been missing for the past 2 days. It was working fine before but now it's not. How can I fix this issue if I don't have an ethernet cord? Is there a way to roll back the recent updates or do I need to reinstall my network manager?
I've tried restarting the system and I've tried killing nm-applet and reloading it using Alt F2. I get some Debug error.
When I try to run nm-applet --sm-disable
It says an instance is already running and then gives me a warning.
I tried removing "iface eth0 inet dhcp" from /etc/network/interfaces and then tried restarting by "sudo /etc/initi.d/networking restart"

What can I do to connect to the internet? I have a flash stick if its possible to download a .deb package on this mac and transfer it over to my other laptop to fix the problem. If its possible.
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Applet Disappeared And Cannot Change System Volume?
Feb 11, 2011Recently I installed JACK and Ardour to try out. Later I decided against it and so I uninstalled them. After restarting my computer, I noticed that the sound applet has disappeared from the panel, although the battery and mail icons are still present. There is still sound coming out of my laptop speakers, but it is stuck at whatever volume I had it set on before the last time I shut down. Volume sliders inside Banshee and suchll function, but I cannot change the overall system volume, and my keyboard shortcuts for this have stopped working as well. When I go into System->Preferences->Sound, all I get is a message that says "Waiting for sound system to respond." and nothing happens. I've tried searching around for a solution, but nobody I could find seems to have had aimilar problem, and none of the various other solutions proposed have worked for me. I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 by the way.

May 6, 2010I'm using ubuntu 10.4 and accidently removed the notification area from the top panel. Since then, I haven't been able to retrieve the icon. As I've read in many threads, I've added a new panel and added a notification error, but the area stays empty. (see screenshot) My other icons like the volume control and the amarok icon were gone as well, but setting up a new indicator applet did the trick. Still, the skype icon won't come back, I've even removed Skype and reinstalled it, but nothing changed. how I could get the icon back again?
