it's possible to add my UbuntuForums account to Empathy or Pidgin, so I get notified everytime someone comments my threads...

View 3 Replies View RelatedEmpathy used to work perfectly, it would connect to my account well. Now, for some reason, it just stays connecting with the little rolling circle thing next to the status. My account works on Pidgin though.. What could this be?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm am successfully adding my gmail account to both empathy and pidgin (it shows up in green that i'm 'available' on my computer). However, I am unable to send or receive any messages. On empathy it just says there was a network error - unknown, and pidgin say there is an xmpp message error code 404.
I've been trying for months to get IM working with my gmail account.
I tried linking my MSN account to Empathy Messenger for the first time - all went well But.I went to my friends house the next day and he told me that my MSN account status on his Windows PC MSN was continuously logging in and out. My computer had been switched off all morning and only used the night before. I went home logged on to Ubuntu 10.10 Empathy and I was logged off - I logged on and then logged off and rang my friend he told me that My status was now showing "That I was away"
I have dual boot system (xp) I went and changed my MSN password and question- should I be concerned is this a known software glitch/ security issue?
I've been using Pidgin up until recently but I don't really like it. I came across Empathy and really like it but I was wondering if there is any way to use Skype through Empathy. If so can I only chat or can I use Empathy for callsvideo calls?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi am trying to video chat with my logitech C200 webcam but it does not work with skype or empathy. Do i need to download special drivers?. In skype i can't even test the camera. and with empathy the webcam icon and the video call option are grayed out. I downloaded "guvcview" from the software center and it works like a charm, i can capture video and take pictures, so i don't really understand why skype and emphaty dont work.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to use video call in skype or empathy, either is fine. Neither works. In Skype I can receive video but it doesn't broadcast mine at all. In empathy it shows my video right up to the second the call connects, then the 'video call' crashes.
edit: cam is definitely working (works fine in cheese and other cam apps) just not broadcasting
Set aMSN to chat account in main menu instead of empathy.
Is it possible? To integrate aMSN into the key communication menu that is. aMSN is superior to empathy for one clear reason, file transfers work!
So Skype installed after an error with msttcorefonts (it seemed to resolve itself - not sure how), but now I am unable to create a Skype account. On the "Create a new Skype Account" screen I fill in all of my information and check the little box saying that I've read all of the licensing conditions, but the "Sign Up" button does not activate for me to click...it's just grayed out. My original installation error said that it was unable to install all dependencies, and that errors were encountered while processing msttcorefonts. Could these issues be related? How do I fix it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to jail Skype into its own process and not the one I login with. That way, if a hacker breaks in, it's limited to this process and only the limited functionality that that user account has. The thing is this -- thousands of Linux guys run Skype, but Skype is hardly ever updated or have security patches, and we run it all the time. It seems like an easy avenue for an exploit. As well, my iptables firew all blocks input connections that I have not established, but Skype is an established connection. How do I create a Bash script that launches Skype under a separate user account?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone. When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?

I have a problem with the Google search box top right corner in Konqueror, when entering search I recieve an error page "Unsupported Protocol" Google asks for ioslave or kioslave. Also when highlighting text on a page and right clicking with the mouse no search option is given. I created a new user and all works as it should for the new user. any_unknown_user@domain -> another_acc
I have downloaded & installed the skype beta release for linux (now ancient?) on my newly build fedora 14 (64) box.
Under fedora 12, I made this work after several hours of mucking around by installing old libraries for 32 bit code in /lib and /usr/lib - as I got an error, I found the library and put it in place. This was painful and the WRONG way to do things - I should have been using yum!
It remains a shame that the Skype release for Linux is so old, but that is life.
Can anyone list the libraries needed (prefer yum names if possible) to make this work?
I can do this again the hard way and list the results for others (should have saved for myself, but I never dreamed that a newer Skype release would take so long) , but I am sure many folks have this working already. I am surprised there is no "yum install skype---" command.
You can find this bug here: [URL]and here: [URL]
Sometimes Empathy is not sending my messages to my contacts on MSN. There are no warning messages of this, so it's really annoying. I have to disconnect and reconnect to MSN to resolve the issue. After the bug occurs no message is sent to that contact, but I can communicate with others.
In my case I see no correlation between the length of the message and the bug occurring, it seems to appear randomly.
I am using Empathy 2.30.0.1 on Ubunutu 10.04 RC
i've never been able to use empathy.for some reason, i just can't add accounts.i've messed with it a lot in karmic, but gave up. running lucid now and added a profile for my wife. interestingly, she has no problems using empathy so i think there must be something going on with my settings.i've searched and searched and removed everything i could find that was empathy-related, but no luck.
