Ubuntu :: Unable To Attach Files In Webmail And Firefox 5 / Enable This?
Jul 26, 2011
Just recently built and setup a new PC for my Dad running Kubuntu 11.04 64bit. As always, I installed and configured the latest Firefox (v5) as the default browser and appropriate plugins such as Flash (64bit using flashaid), adblock plus, video download helper and download status bar.
Everything is running fine, except for we are unable to attach files in Gmail. Further testing returned the same results in Hotmail also.
When composing a message, then clicking 'attach file', the file browser windows as per normal. However, when attempting to navigate to the required folder to select a file, when clicking on the folder to open, the file browser 'attached' a link to the folder.
I was able to replicate this on a 2nd machine with almost identical software setup. I then tried Konquerer (sp?) on the 2nd machine and was able to correctly navigate, and attach the file as needed.
I never noticed this problem before as I use Thunderbird on my all my systems.. but am able to replicate it on 3 different systems.

In firefox, I try to check the box in Edit → Preferences → Advanced → General which says 'submit crash report', but everytime I close this and open it again it remains unchecked. Why is that so?

I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I've just switched successfully from ubuntu to fedora today. Basically I am really happy with fedora, most problems I had I could solve (with the help of the Internet). However 2 major problem remain:
) I am unable to run .jar files. I've already installed the "Java" package from the repo, but it didn't help. When typing code...
worked without problems, however a quick test (.....) told me that flash isn't working. When I try downloading and installing flash manually from the adobe site I get a message that this package is already installed.

I have been a predominant Windows user for a long time but shifted to Ubuntu recently. I was just trying out a few basic C functions when i realized that the "conio.h" header file isn't included in the libraries and therefore i was unable to use the "clrscr()" function.
I downloaded a tarball which contained the necessary library and header files including conio.h. Once extracted, i specified the location and included in the program as " #include "path to the header file" ".
I still didn't call the "clrscr()" function, and it compiled successfully. Next i edited the program to call that function and it gave the following error...
How i can add new libraries in the future?

I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

As you probably noticed, the "Light" themes (Ambiance and Radiance) as well as quite a few other gtk themes now enable moving windows by grabbing the menubar, which is quite useful with the unified titlebar/menubar style of certain themes.
So does anyone know of any way I can force Firefox to behave the same way.
I would prefer to do it through userChrome.css rather than adding an extension but whatever works.
Firefox is the only non-gtk app I use extensively so I'm not too bothered about any other apps that don't follow the behaviour.

I would like to say that I have tried searching for a possible solution on this, and I may be wrong, but I haven't found anything on it. Anyhow, I am here because I would like to know if there is a way to enable the "scroll wheel" in Firefox, like in Windows, on Ubuntu 10.04.

after installing Firebug add-on using Firefox automatic add-on installation, I try to run a JavaScript debugger. At first, the "Script" tab was grayed out, so I try enable it by click its pull down menu and select "enable"; however this action causes Firefox to crash. Did I install Firebug incorrectly that causing the crashes?

I know it is saying that the harddrive that I installed ubuntu is missing.
Heres the story:
My friend's computer wouldnt let him boot to the CD to install Ubuntu on his computer.
So I put his harddrive into my computer as my 3'rd Harddrive and booted the CD on my Machiene and installed Ubuntu to his harddrive.
We got ubuntu to work just fine, and then I removed his harddrive from my computer... big mistake. I no longer have the harddrive that we installed ubuntu to so I cannot use any programs or anything.
What I want to do is get my Windows 7 working again. Right now I cannot do ANYTHING.
I have tried code...

So, I've been using Ubuntu (currently 10.04 lucid) for a while now and have added several repositories to my software sources before with never a problem, but now when I try to add a new repository the 'add source' button won't highlight and I am unable to add the repository. Does anyone have any idea why this might be because it is severely irritating me right now and I really don't want to have to completely reinstall Ubuntu to fix this.

I ran Windows on this computer but it decided it wanted to die on me yesterday, so right now I'm using a Ubuntu Live CD. I wanted to save my files before I install Ubuntu on this harddrive, but when I click on 'Computer', I can't see my harddrive. However, if I go to Disk Utility I am able to see the drive: Unknown (500GB) and Unknown (490GB). I cannot access any of the partitions, so I tried to mount them. When I do that, I get the message code...
The same goes with /sda1/ which kind of sucks. I also tried with /sda/ but it didn't work either. I should probably also mention that when I try to run the Ubuntu installer it shows my harddrive, but no partitions.

i'm currently running Ubuntu 11.04.Heres my problem. Everytime i try to run Compiz and apply some of the fantastic effects none of them seem to work. So this tells me that something is either wrong with my graphics driver (because upon a clean install of Ubuntu it says i don't have a graphics card that can supoort Unity) or i've just simply missed a step in adding one.I've checked Nvidia X server only to get the message "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver Please edit your x configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig as root)" I would love to run it in root if (and don't laugh) i only knew how :
From the many commands i've found online i've tired to either get to or find xorg.conf and if i'm mistaken doesn't exist for some reason. In a nutshell. I can't enable 3d acceleration, i can't find xorg.conf.I currently have 325m Nvidia card on my laptop, if it helps : I can give a ton of other information in necessary.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I've been trying to boot into the live mode. I can get into the main 'Try Ubuntu without any changes' menu, but selecting that option causes the CD tray to spin up, followed by the head audibly flailing about for a minute or two causing the laptop to noticeably vibrate, followed by nothing. It doesn't boot or give any errors, it just stops. I can read the discs just fine in Windows.
So far I've tested shipit CDs of 9.10, 9.04 and 8.10. All cause the above problem. 8.04 works perfectly.
