Ubuntu :: Unable To Mount Ipod DBus Error

Jan 30, 2010

I've had my Ipod working fine using both Rhythmbox and gtkpod until a few weeks ago. Now, I can't get my Ipod to mount. My external hard drive mounts fine, just not the Ipod. When I plug it in I get the following message:

"DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor. Not Found: The given volume was not found"

I've tried to manually mount it and that doesn't work. I updated from Jaunty to Karmic hoping that would solve it. It didn't.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Mount IPhone DBus Error - "Mountpoint Already Registered"

Apr 25, 2011

"Unable to mount iPhone DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered" The above error appears upon plugging in my iPhone 3GS using a USB connection on Ubuntu 10.04. Attempting to transfer tracks to the iPhone (using Rythmbox) results in this error: "Error Transferring Track Error while getting peer-to-peer dbus connection: The name :1.140 was not provided by any .service files"

The interesting part is that I can unmount the iPhone get back into Nautilus and the iPhone icon will still be there on the left side pane. Unmounting from Nautilus does not get rid of the iPhone icon until I physically disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone. Clicking on the unmount/eject icon next to the iPhone icon in Nautilus removes the unmount/eject icon, but it does not remove the iPhone from the left side pane. My other USB devices, such as the 2TB external iOmega hard drive, exhibit identical behavior. I'm guessing that this is a gvfs bug since it appears very similar to other gvfs bugs that I've found from a couple of years ago. I am using gvfs 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~ppa1.

My iPhone used to sync work perfectly using this same Ubuntu PC as late as November 2010. There were no changes made to the iPhone, only updates to Ubuntu -- I'd like to emphasize updates; no new software was installed on this Ubuntu PC.

I'm not sure what when wrong since I have a few DVDs and they all play well in my normal DVD player, I later attempt to mount it in my Ubuntu 8.10 I'm presented with the following message:

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

May I know what does this really mean?Is there something in my computer that require a fix?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Install Multi-Disc Game - Unable To Eject CD-RW / DVD RW Drive DBus Error

Apr 22, 2010

I'm trying to install The Sims 2 (which I'm aware currently does not run properly in wine anyway), using the multi-CD version. The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. The installer prompts me to insert disc 2, but it seems that Ubuntu still believes that the installer doesn't want me to open the drive, because, when I try to open it, it doesn't open, and a window pops up with the following message: Unable to eject CD-RW/DVD RW Drive DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending

Hardware :: DVD / CDs Won't Mount After Recent Upgrade To 9.04 DBus Error

Feb 11, 2010

Unable to mount (DVD name) DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending I recently upgraded to 9.04. Installed medibuntu, ect, but still have this problem. I did not have the problem when I was using Hardy. The DVD I used yesterday was named "TNGS3D1", and though it showed up under places, clicking on the icon (right or left clicks) gave me the message above. Restarting and manually ejecting the DVD did nothing for it. I was able to finally mount the DVD yesterday, and operate it properly, after having this probem for several hours. I don't know why it suddenly worked, or why it doesn't now.

After using the DVD, I unmounted the icon on the desktop, but it is still listed under places. Today, I went to use another DVD, called "TNGS3D2". Again, it is listed under places, but it does not show up on the desktop. clicking on the icon just gives me the message again. Actually, now that I've typed all this, it's shown up on the desktop and works properly. (after approx. 20 min since closing the DVD tray) Is it jut slow? What can I do to fix all this? Why is yesterday's DVD still listed under places?

It mounts from a live CD and all the data is perfectly safe. When I try to mount the drive I get this error message: "Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/data" What have I done wrong and how can I make it mount again? Software :: Thunar-volman Won't Mount Anything HAL/DBus Complaining?

May 24, 2010

I'm trying to get automounting working with Arch on my laptop, and I've installed thunar-volman. The trouble is, whenever I put in a CD or plug in a USB mass storage device (thumb drive, USB hard drive, etc.), it gives me a dialog like the following: Quote:

Failed to mount [CD/DVD/USB device here]. Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.31" (uid=1000 pid=5706 comm="exo-mount) interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=2186 comm="/usr/sbin/hald)).

I'm guessing this means there's some config in HAL or DBus that I need to fix, but I can't even begin to figure out what file it could be in.. I've tried searching LQ and Google to no avail. It seems that either the solution is sitting right in front of me, or hardly anyone even has this problem. I can mount the devices manually (as root), but like I said, if I put in a CD/DVD or plug in a USB storage device, or if I double-click the icon on the desktop, I get the above error. I've tried adding myself to the groups optical, disk, storage, and power, but I still get the same thing.

Ubuntu Networking :: Samba Share : Get An Error Message "unable To Mount Location, Failed To Mount Windows Share"?

Jan 22, 2011

I have installed ubuntu 10.10 and the Samba addon to configure my shares to my Windows terminals. This is what I got

Firewall off (utf disabled)

Internal Sata /dev/sda1 (EXT4 FS)

External USB HDD /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/SG1500GB (EXT4 FS)

I have two shares

1. //home/test - Which I can see and access with no problems (can't write to it though even though I set the share as writable?, but, I can read from it). This is available to everyone. My windows terminal can see this folder and access it. This is on my main 80GB internal drive /dev/sda1.

2. //media/SG1500GB/Music. I set this up for everyone full access and I can see it at all my Windows machines but,I can't get into the folder. Windows keeps giving me an error stating network path not found.I also try to access it via the Nautilus (Places/Network/system/music) and get an error message "unable to mount location, Failed to mount windows share". This drive is mounted per the disk utility.

Ubuntu :: Error - Unable To Mount The Volume

Jun 2, 2010

I didn't have Linux until the day Windows crashed on me for the gazillionth time. I was simply playing some music in Windows Media Player as the entire PC froze. No CTRL+ALT+DEL, no alt F4... so I was forced to hard-reset my computer using the ON-button. After that it never launched Windows again simply because it didn't feel like it. Now, we're not here to find out why Windows is a bitch about all this, my real problem lays somewhere else. Seeing as a lot of important files were on my Windows drive I figured I could just install Linux on the other drive and fetch the files from there. The problem is I can't. Every time I attempt to open the disk I get the following error:

Quote:

Cannot mount volume.
Unable to mount the volume.

Hibernated non-system partition, refused to mount. Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Operation not permitted. The NTFS partition is hibernated. resume and shutdown Windows properly, or mount the volume 'read-only' with the ro-option. Or mount the volume 'read-write' with the remove_hiberfile-option.

Code:

mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda2 /media/disk -o remove_hiberfile

I've tried both the ro-option and the remove_hiberfile but in both cases I'm given this error in the console:

Quote:

Mount is denied because NTFS is marked to be in use.

Choice 1: If you have Windows.. click on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in Windows task bar to shutdown Windows cleanly..

Choice 2: If you do not have Windows then you can use the 'force' option...

And thus looping me back to the first command, upon entering I will again receive the first error. Things I have tried:

- said commands or slight variants

- re-installing windows (gets stuck during installation)

- used the Ultimate Boot CD in an attempt to access and copy the files from my Windows Drive onto an external hard drive / my Linux drive

- clicking the Drive icon furiously for a period of time in hope of a different result (which obviously did not work) Seeing as I can't screw open my laptop and take the drive out I'm really hoping there is some way for me to connect to the drive from Linux and extract the files.

- most likely my Windows system files have gone corrupt and I will need a format, but I'm not willing to do that unless I'm a 100% sure there is no way for me to extract the files first. I have an Acer ASPIRE 7720G (laptop) running an Intel Core Duo T7500 and have 2 physical hard drives (each as one large partition) of 500GB, further more it has 4GB DDR2 RAM memory and a fancy graphics card.
