I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 trying to use my Ipod with Hipo but I keep getting the error

I've had my Ipod working fine using both Rhythmbox and gtkpod until a few weeks ago. Now, I can't get my Ipod to mount. My external hard drive mounts fine, just not the Ipod. When I plug it in I get the following message:
"DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor. Not Found: The given volume was not found"
I've tried to manually mount it and that doesn't work. I updated from Jaunty to Karmic hoping that would solve it. It didn't.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and Hipo version 0.6.1. Whenever I open the program and the Ipod is plugged, I receive the following message "Detected unsupported database version 42" Details: at IPod.DatabaseRecord.Read

Suddenly I am unable to mount an ipod to my 10.04 distro. I get the error mount: can't find /dev/sdb2 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab Can see it in 'places' but cannot mount and naturally, I cannot connect with GTKPod.

then i did chmod 777 to the shared folders on both machines went into nautilus it sees the folder but it will not mount the folder showing the error msg:"unable to mount location failed to mount windows share" ive been searching unbuntu forums opensuseforums and google for an answer to this issue but as of right now anything that i have tried to do has failed and nothing seems to be working.
Today when I try to mount a samba drive on my Ubuntu 10.04 server, which worked before, I now get the error message below:

actually some my windows ntfs partiitions are unable to mount at start up. the error msg is -'some of your partitions are unable to mount press 's' to skip or 'm' to manually mount.

mount error 92 = Protocol not available
Also I have all files it asks for installed including dostools..Btw I used usb creator, then went to gparted and did something. The system is fat 32 now but with same message, not including ext4 part. Just the mount point message, and something about dosftools and mtools, wihich also are installed.

On libimobiledevice.org it shows a cool video of a guy managing his iPhone with Linux thanks to libimobiledevice. libimobiledevice.org also says libimobiledevice supports the iPhone 4. But when he plugs it in, he gets an error that says:

I have 2 internal drives. One is for the OS and one is for the Data. I tried to get the Data drive to mount automatically at login using some crap I found on a linux blog. Safe to say it didn't work and now I can't mount it with the OS on the OS Drive.
It mounts from a live CD and all the data is perfectly safe. Like the user in that thread, when I access the terminal and type in a command, the next line invariably states "[sudo] password for jacob' -- when I hit enter and type in the long list of possibilities I've read (read: sudo, su, su root, su passwd, sudo passwd, sudo root, et al.), alas, nothing happens but the same statement.

However, when attempting to access them from ubuntu, only 2 of the 4 hard disk shares will mount, with the other 2 failing with a Unable to mount location, failed to mount windows share error message.

Firewall off (utf disabled)
Internal Sata /dev/sda1 (EXT4 FS)
External USB HDD /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/SG1500GB (EXT4 FS)
I have two shares
1. //home/test - Which I can see and access with no problems (can't write to it though even though I set the share as writable?, but, I can read from it). This is available to everyone. My windows terminal can see this folder and access it. This is on my main 80GB internal drive /dev/sda1.
2. //media/SG1500GB/Music. I set this up for everyone full access and I can see it at all my Windows machines but,I can't get into the folder. Windows keeps giving me an error stating network path not found.I also try to access it via the Nautilus (Places/Network/system/music) and get an error message "unable to mount location, Failed to mount windows share". This drive is mounted per the disk utility.
When I install a commercial audio into the CDROM drive I get th following: Unable to mount Audio Disc DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered

View 1 Replies View RelatedI didn't have Linux until the day Windows crashed on me for the gazillionth time. I was simply playing some music in Windows Media Player as the entire PC froze. No CTRL+ALT+DEL, no alt F4... so I was forced to hard-reset my computer using the ON-button. After that it never launched Windows again simply because it didn't feel like it. Now, we're not here to find out why Windows is a bitch about all this, my real problem lays somewhere else. Seeing as a lot of important files were on my Windows drive I figured I could just install Linux on the other drive and fetch the files from there. The problem is I can't. Every time I attempt to open the disk I get the following error:

I've tried both the ro-option and the remove_hiberfile but in both cases I'm given this error in the console:

- said commands or slight variants
- re-installing windows (gets stuck during installation)
- used the Ultimate Boot CD in an attempt to access and copy the files from my Windows Drive onto an external hard drive / my Linux drive
- clicking the Drive icon furiously for a period of time in hope of a different result (which obviously did not work) Seeing as I can't screw open my laptop and take the drive out I'm really hoping there is some way for me to connect to the drive from Linux and extract the files.
- most likely my Windows system files have gone corrupt and I will need a format, but I'm not willing to do that unless I'm a 100% sure there is no way for me to extract the files first. I have an Acer ASPIRE 7720G (laptop) running an Intel Core Duo T7500 and have 2 physical hard drives (each as one large partition) of 500GB, further more it has 4GB DDR2 RAM memory and a fancy graphics card.
I have looked around and searched Google for a fix, but it's all explained really technically.explain in Newbie terms how to fix the iPhone mount error? I am on iOS 4.2.1.

I'm not really sure this is the right category for this post...
I've been thinking and reading but I really don't find a solution, and this is why I decided to post here. I'm not a newbie using Linux but I know absolutely nothing about nfs and related stuff. If explanations are not clear/precise I'm sorry and absolutely open to explain myself better (I'm really desperate, at this point).
I'm running a Debian in a VirtualBox inside a RHEL5. To supply space to the virtual machine I'm trying to mount a disk (? maybe not?) that I created in the RHEL.
In RHEL: I created a directory /some/path/dir and I granted access to it from the VM (edit /etc/exports file and restart the nfs service)
In Debian: I created a directory to be used as mounting point (mkdir /other/nice/path/dir) and I tried to mount (mount -t nfs -v redhat:/some/path/dir /other/nice/path/dir). What happens next is the following:
mount.nfs: timeout set for Thu ...
mount.nfs: text-based options ...
mount.nfs: mount(2): Input/output error
mount.nfs: mount system call failed
Now, this Input/output error is too vague to trace where the problem is, but I really have no idea about how to go more in depth (are there logs somewhere? What should I look for? ... ...).
I am running 10.04 Lucid Lynx 64 bit. Whenever I insert a CD or USB flash drive, I get the error "Unable to mount - Not Authorized". I can, however, mount these things by using the mount command from the console as root. I suspect that either the component of Lucid which is responsible for automounting has a bug, or there is some kind of permissions bug with the way Ubuntu sets up the primary user. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a workaround? Should I file a bug report?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know, I know, there a billion threads on the subject spread from Ubuntu forums to Yahoo Answers, but I like many I can't seem to make my fruit talk to a penguin. The odd thing is though, It worked (almost) flawlessly until I started messing around. Trying to install ideviceinstaller (which I never did get working), I tried to compile the source for the development version of libimobiledevice. When I did this, I got compiler error after compiler error. In the end I reinstalled libimobiledevice stable (1.0.4). The problems began here. I've installed everything in the FunkyM repo (except for debuginfo stuff), plus some stuff that isn't, yet I when I try to ifuse in terminal, I get the following error:

No device found, is it connected? If it is make sure that your user has permissions to access the raw usb device. If you're still having issues try unplugging the device and reconnecting it. And subsequently I can't use Gtkpod either.
Anyone got anything? I'm running 11.3, with a jailbroken 2nd gen iPod Touch running iOS 4.0.
I have a 3rd gen 32g ipod touch with the latest firmware and restored to factory default settings. When I plug in the device via USB it will not mount. after plugging in the ipod my dmesg is as follows:

The OS is obviously recognizing the device as an Apple product, but beyond that I don't know.
The device will connect fine with windows machines. I have not tried using it with Wine + itunes as I know that itunes under wine is buggy at best.
