Is there any way that I can transfer domain to my home server. The problem is, right now I'm having a mail server some where on the internet, but it is about to due soon. And it is really expensive as well, so I want to setup my homeserver mail server.

I've bought a domain name(s) via Heartinternet.co.uk and my ISP is Bethere.co.uk I have installed my LAMP Server on my home based server and it's accessible via my static IP address. HTTP is forwarded on my router to my Ubuntu (web)Server. Now then, in laymen's terms, I want my domain name to resolve to my Ubuntu Server. I have installed and configured Bind9 to this guide found online: http://goo.gl/M3Pk i understand that I need to do this in order to 'host' the domain name. Or alternatively, if my presumptions are correct, I could leave the domain name with the registrar and use their DNS config panel to add an A record to point at my webserver (static IP address)???
If I forward port 53 (default for DNS) to my server (after setting up bind9 correctly) and within my domain name hosting options change the nameserver settings to point at my static ip address then would this be enough to host my domain from my home network?
I feel I nearly have a whole picture but...not quite. There's a multitude of vague guides on the internet (vague or I'm not reading them properly!)
I have setup a home based web server to host a photo blog for myself and my friends. I will be running wordpress and possibly a phpbb3 forum. I'd like to open this to discuss server administration, server setup, and server maintenance. However, I have a pretty good start on all of those but serving a domain name to my static ip. Here my static ip is 24.10.202.144. I registered a domain through [URL]... It appears that I have the domain working to forward to my ip. However, I am still getting this output file from apache.

I have tested the domain name across a few different computers on different ips. It works appropriately. I just want to make sure I have it set correctly on the (apache) server side of things. Then I can get more into Zone Editing etc.

What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? If I do? Which particular records should I change? I'm running a Unix virtual server with a Plesk control panel.

I have a Linux machine which is on my network but not on my domain. I have configured SAMBA FILESERVER for file sharing purpose. I have a Windows XP PC which is on the domain(windows server) that I am trying to connect to a share on the Linux box. I supply my credentials but regardless of which login I use I always get Logon Failure. I have created an account on the Linux machine with the same user name and password as my domain account but so far no luck. Can I connect from a domain PC to a non-domain Linux box? Is there something else I should be checking?
I'm working for a smallish non-profit that has gone through some recent growing pains. We have two sites that are currently without a domain controller, and no money for MS licenses, so I was thinking of trying to add a couple of additional Linux machines (we already run Linux for web services internally, and I've set up a test case previously to see if I could get a server to join the domain, which was a success) and was trying to find out if I can get them to act as Domain Controllers without replacing the domain. The main issue that I'm having at those locations is drive mappings are not happening correctly against our DFS file servers. The one other location that had this issue had it go away when we added a local DC. The domain is a Server 2008 domain.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a complete newbie at web servers, so I installed Ubuntu Server and have a LAMP set up. I have gotten dynamic DNS to link to my domain, and that seems to be working. My domain is 6py7.com. If I try to access my domain from within my home network it links me to my router's main page (192.168.2.1). I have my server set up with a static ip at 192.168.2.100 and have port forwarding set up.
Is there something I missed with the setup of this? I can only access my domain if I use a network outside of my home network, but if I am within my home network the domain name links to the router.
My customer has a domain hosted by me and he has another domain hosted by another isp. He would like to have this domain am hosted to be forwarded so thwt upon entering the url he should have the website which is hosted by this other ISP displayed (the url of the website be musked). I see that openLDAP takes care of authenticating clients but what application to use to mount the user's home folder from the server to the client machine on logging.

The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. When i try to transfer data from other linux server through scp it gives connection refused. For e.g ssh 5.8 is configured on new server and i want to transfer files from old server which is using openssh 4.3 version.i created same username and password on new server as on old server.My sftp users on new server has no shell access but only sftp access. When i try to scp from old server to new server it gives error connection refused. Is the below configuration only for sftp and can't scp? According to google the configurations i found are for scp and sftp. Do i need to generate ssh keys by giving users on new server shell access, once created then stop shell access again, as i dont want to give shell access permanent for security reasons? but i want to use ssh keys for more security as well.

I have 2 computers on the same network that i need to link together to transfer files 1 is a web server the other is a minecraft server. the problem is that the file transfer will be constant as the minecraft server will constantly updates files on the web server and I dont want it to go to the router then to come back to the web server. i compiled and install postfix, and i using relayhost that point to my ISP. but my "DNS server" is on the same server where is installed postfix. and there is running apache with vhosts so i have domain that hosted on same server and in zonefiles of my domain my MX records points to Google Apps, to google's MX servers. But when i try send E-mail via sendmail to mail@mydomainonsameserver.com it not deliver mail to Google Apps totally, if i try to send to another E-mail everything fine it deliver it. so finally i done research this problem in Internet. And find that need to disable deliver mail to localhost(localdelivery)as i think postfix understand that the domain point to the same server where postfix have itself. and try to deliver mail local. but zonefile MX record even the domain on same server can point to another server outside. So i disabled localdelivery in postfix. and problem not fixed

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am newbie to postfix. I added a new domain to my postfix server in the main.cf under mydestinations variable and the relay_domains file. Also, added this domain to my backend exchange server. When I send a test message from the new domain, my messages from that domain appear to be stuck in the "queue active". What does it mean when you are stuck in this queue? Does this mean that my backend email server (exchange 2003) isn't allowing messages from this new domain OR that the POSTFIX server still needs configuring.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a server that runs on a static IP address with many hosting accounts. I am using the IspCP to manage the different sites. When a mail is sent, the headers include the box's own domain name: [URL]. Now [URL] is no longer active, so if an email from another account: [URL] sends mail, there is possibility that this mail is rejected by the receiver, if the receiver system does rDNS.
The receiving server will check the headers smtp sent from [URL] and come up as a fake, because [URL] is no longer registered. I wonder if there is a way to make the smtp headers reflect only the domain name that sent the mail. Then if joe sends mail, the server should replace[URL] with [URL]. If this is possible, then users that send mail will not get bounced because the rDNS lookup will map [URL] to the ip and the mail will be accepted.
