Ubuntu :: Song Identification Like Sony's Track ID For A Desktop Player?
Mar 19, 2010
Any1 know of a music player that has support for track identification service like that used in sony ericsson mobiles which records a small part of the song, then uploads it to a server, and identifies the song? or is there an open source service like this in the first place? so maybe id develop a plugin myself?
EDIT: i did find this but it doesn't have linux support
EDIT2: found this 1 is online but it requires me singing , i wonder if theres a way to query it...
I've been using banshee for a about a week, but it has recently started closing abruptly whenever it needs to play the next track. It will happily load the first track, and it is possible to play songs by selecting them, but allowing a song to finish, pressing next, previous or stop track causes it to crash.I am running natty 11.04 and banshee 2.0.0This is the output of banshee --debug. I pressed the next button within the player.
I'm looking for a simple media player that can loop/repeat a given section of a song; say from 2:55 to 3:20 if I wanted. This would be useful for guitar practice.
Every music or video player I use there is the same problem, I can't fast forvard the song. the seeker is grey and I can't move it so I can't move the slider to, for example, to middle of the song.
First of all, this is not a rhythmbox issue, but a pulseaudio one. Everytime I click on next song (in rhythmbox or amarok), the master volume drops about 25 percent. Once the volume goes to 0, the volume cannot be modified without going into sound preferences and unmuting the volume for the application. This is *very* annoying. Basically, it means that everytime I click on next song, I need to follow that with 2 or 3 hits of up volume.
I'm working on getting my myth box hooked up to my Sony flat panel display.Originally the nvidia drivers could not read the EID, so defaulted to only 640x480 over my HDMI-DVI connection.I manually updated xorg.conf with a mode for the resolution I know the thing can handle. Suddenly there are several resolutions avaialble in nvidia-settings and it seems to be communicating with the TV, as it is now listed as a Sony FP display rather than a CRT.I'm able to change the resolution now as expected.my problem, however, lies with the TV itself. I can't seem to get it to actually display the output. I'm able to remote desktop into the box and can see Gnome logged in and everything. However nothing on the TV itself. How do I troubleshoot this? Am I missing something obvious?
I have PC with Motherboard Intel Desktop Board D945GCNL, and Ubuntu 10.10 installed on it. Graphic card was working fine, but recently i don't know what happen suddenly the visual effects stop working, and i believe the issue with the identification of the VGA. with error message "Desktop effects could not be enabled" i checked some forums related but wasn't able to solve it. when i type compiz. it stuck on the below:
I am really new to Linux. I have a Sony MP3 player and have always used Windows media player to download songs from CD's to this. How do I do this on Linux (is it possible?)
I have some playlist I want to keep the songorder, but I have the files in another file-structure.( I have the songs ordered in folder by artist and album, cos all songs are note tagged correctly or in the same way.)I want to use the playlist with the songs in copied to an another plays, for instance an usb-stick.Is there an application who fix mass change of all links to the songs?
for instance I have in m3u-files: #EXTM3U #EXTINF:268,Salt Fare North Sea[code]....
Or Is there a way in Amarok or another music-player that can make a copy of the playlists song order and use it with new links on a usb-memory? I don't now how sync to media-player and such things work.

I have a Sony MP3 player which is a SOK-NWZ-B512F(B) model that couldn't detected by OpenSUSE. I did try on other pen drive which is a Kingston brand, it is detected and a pop-up message mention that I have an USB drive connected.
I'm looking for some pointers on a method to "transfer" the song-playing from my laptop to my PC, both running ubuntu. The use case is: I'm home listening to some song on the laptop. Then I realize how crappy the speakers are. Here's what I do *now*:
1. Stop playback on the laptop 2. Get up, go to the PC, open the music player 3. Find the same song 4. Try to find the same point in the song 5. Stop playback on the laptop 6. Start playback on the PC (the PC has good speakers)
Of course now I'm dreaming of having a "button" I push that does all this all by itself. Can anyone give me some pointers?
i have a sony vaio desktop pentium 4 1.5ghz 128mb and i want to install ubuntu on it,iv tried ubuntu 10.04 but it doesnt meet the system requirements,i also tried ubuntu 8 but it says "this kernel requires an x86-64 CPU and i only have i1586CPU"
I have a Sony Vaio , desktop Model# PCV-2252 . I have tried to load
Mint 7, Mint 8, SimplyMepis 8, PuppyLinux
They all get so far and won't load anymore. Puppy gets to the Keyboard selection, but won't let you choose one. Most of the others get quite a ways thru the process (all the text on the screen) and then just stop. Have used the same discs on other computers and know they work. Apparently others have this problem with Sonys

As far as i know VLC is the best media player for linux bc it suppurts all file types. But there is one anoying problem - when i want to listen to song it opens VLC, but when i open another song it opens another new VLC window. And this problemug or whatever didnt apear in Windows version VLC player.
I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 on a Sony Vaio RX456DS Desktop (2001 vintage) which currently has Windows ME installed. As far as I can see, the Ubuntu disk is sound and the PC boots up from it. However, the initial screen looks very plain (no colours, text badly placed, not at all like the Welcome screen I expected) and if I select "Install" or "Try", I get a Ubuntu logo in the centre of the screen with 5 small red dots that progress from left to right, and then repeat this. Nothing else happens, even after a long time. Also, the initial screen has two more options - "Check the disc" and "Test the Memory" (or something similar). Can anyone suggest what, if anything, I should try now?
I have an older ATI chip card with tv in (both cable and a/v), and would like to build me a video editing box. Is there a utility to query the card, or at least the card's bios??
I tried assuming that the touchpad was a synaptics device and configure it as such, but it wasn't and this caused X to crash. (I also tried piping the output to grep -i and search for some key terms).
I have a problem with the unix firewall (gufw). I'm using Linux Mint Debian Edition. The problem appears when I double click on the icon to bring it up for configuring. Everything is grayed out so I click on the "unlock" button. Normally, this is when gufw comes alive with color. But all I get now is a note on the bottom of the gray screen that says "Wrong Identification". Uninstalling and reinstalling UFW and GUFW didn't fix the problem. I would like to have my firewall working for me.
I think that the biggest problem that I have had is that some of the music (and audio books) that I have gotten have not played on my walkman, or have not been able to be downloaded in to I-tunes.
First: I hate itunes... I only try to make it work because I love my wife. (and do not want her to hit me)
Second: I know that my Walkman has a very limited range of files that it can play, so I will need to convert some types of files.
But my basic questions:
* How can I figure out what format a file is in? * Below that, how can I identify the singular characteristics of a file? (bit rate, and other formats...) * Is there a best way to switch the formats or format options of these files. (I am currently using sox to do this, it seems to very complete)
Basically. I know nothing! The most that I do not know is that two files that as far as I can tell have the same formats, and should work the same never the less, one of them works, the other does not. I am looking to figure out a way to look at these files (maybe they are mislabeled) and figure out what their real format is (and a more complete format than just being MP3 or such) and then to be able to convert it in to a format that is able to be used by myself and/or my wife.
I had no problems upgrading from Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx and all data/documents were preserved. However my DVD player does not show up on the desktop when a DVD is put in and Movie Player won't play.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS x64 in VMWare Player on my Windows 7 x64. My host video card is an ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5730 with 1 GB DDR3 and I am very sure that my other specs are above par for desktop effects (i7-820QM, 8 GB DDR3 RAM). However, even though I enabled 3D acceleration for the Ubuntu virtual machine (along with 4 cores and 1 GB RAM), I can't enable desktop effects. I have successfully installed VMWare Tools. I used to use VirtualBox and with x86 Ubuntu desktop effects work.
I installed 11.04 desktop on a vmware player vm to use as a pausable browser based game environment. Tried Gemcraft Labryinth and it played very buggy. Is buggy flash player a known issue on Ubuntu, or is it something I can troubleshoot?
I'm a huge fan of Linux in general and Ubuntu in particular. But until there is a more user friendly microphone/video experience, Ubuntu has no real hope of achieving significant desktop market share, something I dearly want to see. Every install of Ubuntu I've tried in the past few years has had maddening problems in this area. I've spent hours trawling forums, fiddling with Alsa settings, disabling and re-enabling options, installing various packages, all to no avail.
Buy any Windows based laptop or Mac and the integrated mic and webcam will generally work first time. My other half recently bought a Macbook, and the video experience was completely seamless. I've recently completely ditched Windows, and feel utterly liberated, but I could only do this as I have access to a Mac for videochat. Videochat is not a luxury, it's a must have for most users. I'm aware of some of the various issues behind the problem, but surely Canonical can muster enough geeks to fix sound and video. This sums it up pretty well: Why do No Serious Musicians use Linux?
After seeing how good netflix movies looked over a wireless connection I decided to pull out an old desktop to see if I could up a basic media player . I loaded Ubuntu 10.4 and was impressed how fast and clean the computer ran. I also downloaded the latest version of boxee. I was disappointed with the quality of video; video was not very sharp, there were square blocks(pixelated) in dark areas of the picture. At this point I am trying to decide if the poor quality is due to my video card, boxee, CPU or if I am expecting too much from web content. should I just a browser or VLC. Naturally I would like to spend little money and use what I have. If however my hardware is not salvageable for what I want to use it for, I would like to know. Any opinions?
I don't fully understand this problem. Using 10.10 on Dell Inspiron 2650.
When I load a DVD or CD the DVD/CD player and disc doesn't show in Places or on the desktop. It doesn't show in Banshee. But using VLC and going to media/open disc/play I can play both the audio CD and the DVD's.
Any idea what the problem is? How do I get the player to show in Places? Should there be an icon on the desk top?
