I have been trying to set VLC as the default player, i have been reading in the forum but nothing works for me.
When i hit right click on a file and open with and set VLC as default it opens the vlc just that one time, not always.
I recently installed VLC Media Player and now wonder how I could make it my default media player in Ubuntu because every time I want to listen to a song, I have to right click and "Open With...VLC Media Player".
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set my default media player as MPlayer and selecting it with a right click in the menu, open with and then telling it to open with every time. It then opens it in MPlayer that time no problem but then next time I just double click on the file (or any file with same type) it just opens it with the original default player. I've tried using SMplayer as well as default and it does the same thing. I'm on Ubuntu 10.04.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI changed the default player for mp3 to audacious, which works fine, just that every time I doubleclick a mp3 file, a second application button appears in my taskbar saying "opening [file]" which looks like the default player. this program will eventually time out and go away, but it's still annoying - any idea on how I would go about fixing this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have already had Vista installed on another drive and from what i've read on the webs you get to dualboot if you install ubuntu after vista. when i did install it (i installed on a blank hdd with no partitions, choosing the "erase entire disk" option since for some reason default option was attempting to eat a part of my windows 1 gb drive instead of using disk i specially made for it) and the grub 2 loaded for the first time, there was NO option to run vista. only 2 linux (normal and recovery) and 2 memtests. I've ran linux and went to google this. I found that i should add something to some config files in /etc/grub.d/From reading the readme file i understood i could add my own files that are named like NUMBER_SOMENAME and insert code into them. I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I click once with my bluetooth mouse (Logitech M550b), about one time in three ubuntu receives two clicks.I'm not sure if this is a problem with the mouse or a bug in the OS, but even if it is a problem with the mouse these two clicks arrive at the same time, way too quickly to be a genuine double click.I have searched everywhere (including all the options in gconf-editor) and cannot find where the debounce delay is set for mice. Debounce should ensure that two clicks occurring in rapid succession are interpreted as a single click and thereby solve my problem.
The mouse settings window and gconf-editor both have a setting for 'maximum double click delay', but nothing for 'minimum double click delay' (AKA debounce delay). Does anyone know how I can change the setting so that two simultaneous clicks from the same mouse will be interpreted as a single click?Alternatively, does anyone know of an ubuntu bug which might be causing a single click to be interpreted as two simultaneous clicks? I suspect that the mouse is not the source of problem but have not had a chance to test it on another machine to confirm.I've searched the forum history and found lots of other people having the same problem of phantom double clicks, but nobody has found a solution in any of the previous threads.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Lucid, I haven't been able to play videos in Totem or VLC player, though I've got all the necessary codecs. The sound plays, but I just get a black screen with (very) occasional flashes of the image. However, I've found that SMPlayer DOES work.
Is there a way to make it the default, so that when I double-click the vids, it will fire up automatically, instead of my having to use right-click/open-with ? I've tried changing it in the multimedia tab of 'Preferred Software', but that doesn't seem to work.
I would like to set xine as my default player for DVD playback and cannot figure out how. I have read other posts that state to right click on file>properties>open with but do not seem to have the open with option when right clicking a dvd that is in my dvd drive. I would also like to change the open with option in the right click menu. The current option is to open with movie player, and movie player cannot seem to find additional plug ins to open file with.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 and Ubuntu(latest version), dual boot, and I've locked myself out of Ubuntu. I have 2 hard disks and 2 cd/dvd drives. I was working on getting my 2nd hard drive to mount on boot up and succeeded. I should have left well enough alone, but I changed the 2 cd drive from swap to default, (just to see if it would mount automatically), and now I can't boot into ubuntu. It just hangs. I can't even in get using recovery mode because the updated graphics drivers won't allow me to read the screen during the boot into ubuntu until the boot has completed. If anyone has any ideas, please help. It had been working pretty well until this set back.

I tried with a few older Exaile versions (from various repo's) - nothing... compiling 0.3.1.1 from source - still nothing. with these I can set every other player to be default player (so, only Exaile refuses to obey). to be more exact, after setting Exaile as default, double-click on any audio file associated with it results with temporary CPU usage increase and than NOTHING :S just don't tell me to use VLC, Audacious, Rhythmbox, Amarok, QL or any other player... I used them all but I NEED Exaile (and not just because it looks beautiful enough with Ambiance to make me completely forget foobar2k... and because it's sooo stubborn ).

As of now, when I upload a file, it plays but has no "play/pause/stop/mute/fullscreen" buttons. How do I get those? I've tried installing FFMPEG, MPlayer and a few others to no avail. Please suggest a tried&true method of allowing for this. I need it to be able to at least play audio(mp3) and video(mp4,wmv,avi,flv)
View 4 Replies View RelatedUsing Ubuntu 11.04, Totem (the default media player) is not able to seek (read: to forward or go back in time) whenever the file is read from a mounted ISO archive.
Whenever I extract individual media files from such an archive, the seek bar at the bottom works as it should. Thus, it can be ascertained that it is not the media files that are the source of the problem, here.
why that is doing so? Sounds like a bug, or what?
I downloaded VLC through the Synaptic Packet Manager. When I double click on a movie file, Ubuntu still tries to open up Movie Player. How do I set VLC as the default movie player for all video files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo when I click Places in the Main Menu and then any directory like Desktop or Documents or Pictures the Movie Player starts, and all the files that the directory contains are in the playlist. The only way around is to click Computer which would bring me into the file manager as normal.
