Ubuntu Servers :: Set Up 11.04 Install So That Php Access Ms-sql?

Jul 17, 2011

I am trying to set up my 11.04 ubuntu install so that php can access ms-sql servers. I have done this twice before once with ver 9.10 and centos 5. So I figure I would follow the same steps again as I did last time. but its not working this time around. I get to building php and get the following error. I do not often build packages as I dont know much about it so I figure I have missed something some place. Can anyone tell me what this means and a clue to where I can find the fix.

>> dpkg-buildpackage
dpkg-buildpackage: export CFLAGS from dpkg-buildflags (origin: vendor): -g -O2
dpkg-buildpackage: export CPPFLAGS from dpkg-buildflags (origin: vendor):
dpkg-buildpackage: export CXXFLAGS from dpkg-buildflags (origin: vendor): -g -O2
dpkg-buildpackage: export FFLAGS from dpkg-buildflags (origin: vendor): -g -O2

Servers :: Install - Access It Remotely Via Ubuntu Desktop Environment Instead Of SSH Command Line?

Aug 5, 2011

Is there any way to install a Ubuntu server and access the server remotely via a Ubuntu desktop environment instead of a SSH command line?

I will be installing a Ubuntu server in an office where the office manager will need to be able to do simple things like add/remove users, access filesystems, etc. She can handle these tasks in Ubuntu desktop/GUI, but it is impractical for her to have to learn how to use the CLI terminal to do this stuff.

Will I have to install desktop Ubuntu on the server to do this, or can I install Ubuntu server version and setup another computer Ubuntu desktop to remotely login graphically?

Ubuntu Servers :: Webdav Access - When Connect From Nautilus - Says - Access Was Denied

Mar 26, 2010

I'm having a problem with my webdav share. I have a secure webdav folder that gets accessed via a non-standard port and requires basic authentication. I can connect and interact with it fine via cadaver. However, when I try to connect from nautilus, it says "Access was denied." To make it even stranger, sometimes I can click on the folder in nautilus (it still mounts) and access it. Sometimes not (just repeats the error message and won't show me the contents). I may not even un-mount it, but just look at other folder, then click it again and be able to access it, but again - only rarely.

I asked a friend to try connecting from his windows vista computer and it would not work. It would not work from my windows XP virtual computer either. However, it mounts and works just find from my work computer (also Windows XP).

So it seems to be a 50/50 chance that the drive will mount on any given computer/system and work. Do anyone know what the problem may be? I'm guessing user permissions, but I can't figure out what.

I've made sure the webdav folder is owned by www-data and www-data has read access to the password file as well.

When I try connecting from nautilus, I get this in the log file:

Code:

Here is one of the (many) sites I've tried looking at: [url]

Ubuntu Servers :: Can't Access A Few Addresses?

May 28, 2010

I am having an issue on my server where I can't access certain ip's erratically. These addresses could previously connect to us.I think it may be related to getting rootkitted. I know the risks in not reinstalling but we are not able to install yet at this point. I cleaned out shv4 and shv5 from the os and setup tripwire. The client can't ping the server and likewise back. From my personal computer they both respond to pings. The server is running denyhosts but that is about it in-terms of security.I can't find anyhting anywhere... No ipchains present, nothing in host.deny, subnet is 255.255.255.0.I'm really at a loss so I'm looking for some direction

I know someone is going to tell me that I have to assume all my files are compromised and i should reinstall; I did md5 checks on alot of files and there is no data on here that shouldnt get out and I check for stuff running that shouldn't be daily. The server is 10.04 server. Latest updates. Here is a list of installed packages

Code:
adduserinstall
anacroninstall

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache Access Though VPN

Sep 1, 2010

just switched our company from windows server to linux and everything is going good except we have 4 vpn connections though out the country coming to our server. All giving the client machines ip addresses of 192.168.x.x based on where they are located 192.168.1.x for the main location 192.168.2.x for a second location etc, and IIS could see the clients ip instead of the wan ip and was setup to block all ips except 192.168.x.x ip's and this worked great.

So i set up apache the same way, to allow only 192.168 ip's but i guess it doesn't work that way in apache for connections coming though vpn? 2 out of our 4 VPN connections are not static IP's, so the 2 that are I just add that ip to the allow list and that worked. But i don't think we should HAVE to get static ips for the other 2, that's one of the benefits of using VPN, especially if our old windows server didnt need it.Is there any way for apache to see the clients ip address for access or is there something somewhere else that needs changed for this?

Ubuntu Servers :: Restrict Access To Particular IP?

Oct 7, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu Server 10.04 32-bit.I'm looking to find if there is anyway I can lock down ubuntu so that remote access, whether it be SSH, ftp, apache.etc can be only accessed from a certain IP range, or a certain set of IPs?Essentially, we'll say the Server IP is 192.168.1.32, and I want the IP addresses 192.168.1.33-50 to be able to access the server, but no other IPs.I am in a switched environment, router's are not allowed to be placed on the network, and I do not have access to a DNS or DHCP server. Is there a way to do this in on the server via a configuration of some sort?

* Starting init crypto disks..
* Could not access PID file for nmbd

I don't know where the message "Could not access PID file for nmbd" it doesn't appear to be coming from samba because samba is starting later in the startup. I've had no issues with samba and I can restart samba with no issues. Is this something to be concerned about? I noticed it started after I upgraded my samba server.

Ubuntu Servers :: Give User Ftp Access To /var/www?

Feb 12, 2010

Apache by defaults points to /var/www/eachdomain. I need to be able to give users ftp access to /var/www/specific domains.

It seems that if I change the owner of /var/www/specificdomains/ to the user in question, then www:data no longer owns the directory and Apache starts to have issues..

What's the best way to set this such that I can allow users to FTP into specific directories, and still have www:data own them? I'm currently using vsftp, but that can easily change.

Ubuntu Servers :: Cannot Access Tomcat On 8080 Outside Lan

May 24, 2010

On my Ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx server edition machine I have an Apache http server listening on port 80 and today I installed the Funambol server which added an Apache Tomcat server listening on port 8080. From within my lan I can reach both servers, but from outside the lan I can only reach the http server on port 80 and not the Funambol server on port 8080. I get a time out message instead.

In my router I have setup port forwarding, such that both ports 80 and 8080 get forwarded to my server machine. Must Tomcat be told to listen to external requests? Is my server listening on port 8080 only for requests inside the lan? Or is there some authorization that fails when I try to visit from outside my lan?

Here is some netstat output, I don't know if the differences between the 80 line and the 8080 line are relevant:

Code:
remon@compaq:~$ sudo netstat -nlp | grep 80
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8009 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1778/java

Ubuntu Servers :: Relay Access Denied 5.7.1

Setup an Ubuntu LAMP server to house a Wordpress site. Everything is gravy but I am having some troubles getting emails to route outside my local network. I have setup Internet and also added my ISP SMTP as a smarthost - either way I get the dreaded Relay Access Denied 5.7.1.

I am using DynDns as I do not have a static IP - not sure if this makes a difference?

telnet my_dyn_dns.org 25
ehlo localhost

250-PIPELINING
250-SIZE 10240000
