I have Ubuntu Server 9.10 setup on virtualbox and i'm using webmin and everthing works so far. But now i'd like to install Coldfusion 9, so how do i download or copy across from my Host OS ? Is there a very lightweight gui i could install, although prefer to stay away from that if i can ?

If I install Ubuntu Desktop to my local machine is it possible for me to administer the server using Ubuntu Desktop (using the GUI)? I connect to the net over ADSL. Any guides/advice for setting up Ubuntu as a web/mail/ftp with a key focus on keeping to secure? I know how to install LAMP but as I have root I need to learn a little more than I did when I was on a shared host.

I installed today Centos 5.2 64bit and followed the procedure on Centos.org before upgrading to Centos 5.3. I have installed Apache 2.2.11 and ColdFusion 8 Enterprise Edition. Tested Apache, it was working fine. I had to modify manually the Apache_connector and run it manually. I even run the libtool command "libtool --finish /opt/apache22/modules and chmod 755 /opt/coldfusion8/runtime/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun22.so". ColdFusion services were started without problem.
But when opening the path //localhost/CFIDE/administrator on my web browser (Firefox), i don't get the CF admin page instead a download box is opened asking me to open or save the file. It can be that apache_connector is not working properly. I installed it on Centos 5.2 64 bit and everything went well.
Have just installed ubuntu on virual disk. So now, as host machine I have - Windows, and as guest machine - Ubuntu. Such question, how to copy/paste texts between host and guest machines (into command-line, mc, etc.)? ps: I have tried ctrl+v and ctrl+shift+v (ctrl, shift - left buttons), no reaction at all.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the life of me I can not figure out what I am doing wrong with scp to copy a directory and its contents from a remote machine to my local host. I have no issues with getting a single file but would like to just save time and get the whole folder in one command.
Here is what I have tried:
scp user AT remoteMachine:/home/username/folderIwant user AT localMachine:/folderIwant this gives me a permission denied error and try again and received disconnect from localHost to many authentication failures
scp user AT remoteMachine:home/username/folderIwant . says can not find file or folder
I am sure this is something easy that I cant remember, and searches gives me local to remote not remote to local and trying to make the local to remote suggestions I read to work remote to local have not worked.
I have a slave node uploading all kinds of backups to my server in the internet. Now I would like to display the actual upload and download rate to this server (not the entire nic-traffic, any protocol) in a small php-page for easy monitoring.I had a look at quite some monitoring tools and the one which kind of offers what I am looking for is iftop with a filter on the IP of my server. As I would like to periodically update a file with the actual rates, an interactive program won't do. A possibility would be to filter the packages myself using but this seems to be quite a long shot.The optimal solution would be a program or script printing out the actual upload to a host specified in the options to STDOUT

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a copy of 11.04 desktop beta1 amd64 to download. This is running on an x120e. Beta1 installs and works but freezes every few hours. Beta2 almost fully installs but pops up with a friendly error that says "installation has failed" with not much helpful in the syslogs. 11.04 Final kernel panics half way through installation.
At this point, I've tried almost everything, so I'm just trying to get back on Beta1 to get stable because this is my work computer. There are a lot of links on google, but every single one went dead as soon as final was released. After that, I will work on trying to get 11.04 final installed properly.

I have been using ubuntu for a good time and now i want to install opensuse.I have dwnlded the new (11.2) version 2 times but on installing it says unable to create repository. it takes a full day to dwnld here.. please suggest how to use the existing dwnld or a way toget a correct dwnld. i think the earlier one is corrupt.

After playing around on the demo setup, I spent quite a bit of time figuring out how to get it set up on a hosting provider via FTP. Once that was set up, things ran smoothly for a few weeks until one day I logged into my user CP and saw a notice that they were shutting down and selling their server to a new adult video site and that all sites would be deleted in like 72 hours. I could never find another hosting provider that could give me the space I needed without ads for free, so I had this crazy idea of hosting it myself.
I have an older box with Lucid Desktop Edition that would be great for a server (I mainly use my laptop anyway), but there are a few problems: I have very little experience with Linux (although I'm great w/ Windows). I need Apache and PHP but I have no idea how to install them (and make them work together) and where to put the files to "serve." Knowing some administrative commands .
My ISP blocks incoming connections on port 80. I need help deciding on an alternative port besides the blaringly obvious port 8080 that won't conflict with anything important. I'll most likely link to it from our homepage on Google Sites (with a free .tk domain) so it doesn't need to be easy to remember.
I type in /etc/init.d/hostname.sh start
And I receive bash: /etc/init.d/hostname.sh: No such file directory
For hostname I've use "hostname" and my actual hostname, and both receive the same error.
Although when I do hostname is shows the correct hostname but without the the comcast part of it , and when I type in hostname -f, I get the correct hostname with the comcast part of it.
I currently have a virtual host setup to accept SSL connections as follows:

I upgraded karmic to lynx today and I'm stuck with some weird behaviour with one of my virtual hosts. The virtual hosts under /var/www/site work but my virtual host for DAVICAL which points to /usr/share/davical/htdocs/ doesn't.
Navigation to any html pages works but php files just show up blank!
Has there been a configuration change in lynx for virtual hosts outside of /var/www?
I got one problem with my linux webserver where I deployed from Virtual Machine template, usually i go to the console and then issue the command hostname NEWSERVERNAME to make it happens and then followed by editing the /etc/hosts file and its done, but how come this time after the reboot it reverts back to the old template name ? i want it to be "wordpress" as the hostname but instead it reverts back to SSV as the name ?
