There are lots of technologies which are used for virtuaizing such as OpenVZ, Xen, VMWare, KVM.
I tried all except KVM. Is there any web gui control pane which can be used for KVM virtualization ?
Like, HyperVM is used for openvz and xen, vmware have their own control panel web gui
After installation and deinstallation of XEN the main topic "Virtualization" is missing in the YAST control center.
Under "Software Management" I searched for "yast" but found no fitting module.
How can I reinstall?

There will be a development server and a production server, which changes from development will be rolled onto. Unfortunately, I am more of a web programmer than a Linux guru, and I really don't know whether or not it is better to have two physical servers or two virtual servers on one machine. I don't think there will be a huge toll on the machine, as there will probably be around 1000 total users and less than 100 on at any given time. We are also able to spend quite a bit on the server, so I'm sure one could handle it, but I just wanted to check and see what the advantages and disadvantages would be in this situation.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have set up UEC and have installed the store images. I have seen that we can create and run instances which are similar to virtual machines. We can utilize virtualization and create virtual machines and thereby fully utilize the server. Not sure what extra benefits or features can be achieved using cloud (say UEC). I suppose I am missing something. Kindly let me know how cloud adds more value than server virtualization.

I've got quite limited hardware.
AMD Athlon II (Dual core)
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM

What I would want to know is how to create the virtual servers in an truly optimal way. Should I use KVM or VirtualBox? How can I make the request to mydomain.org go to one of the virtual servers and the request to anotherdomain.com go to another virtual server?
If the virtual server is the best solution.
* How much memory should be sufficient for a simple LAMP/FTP-server?
* What would be the most optimal settings for my limited hardware capacity?
In Kile I got the log and messages pane it is just gone in the latex main page. What do I have to do to get it back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI figured out how to give folders the icon of my choosing (say, by digging through to /usr/share/icons/Humanity/places).
But, if I drag my newly decorated folder to the side pane so I can have easy access to it, it becomes an ordinary folder icon again.
I've looked through the options in gconf-editor for Nautilus, and there does not seem to be an obvious fix there. It should be doable, because if you drag, say, the Music or Photos folder to the side pane it maintains its custom icon.
How can I keep my chosen icon on a folder when I bring it to the side pane?
I found this thread: [URL] but the info is 1 year old. Has anything changed? I would like the extra pane every time I start nautilus without having to press f3 or view->extra pane.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to set up a hosting control panel solution on my Ubuntu LAMP server to make it easier to administer virtual hosts, users, databases, and so on. I'm completely disgusted with how drastically the installation seems to alter your system (I highly doubt it even works at all with Debian/Ubuntu).
I'd actually prefer something that was more than JUST a web hosting manager, but that gave me options for managing my server in general. What control panel option would you recommend?
Most importantly, I want something that's going to work well with the Apache config standards that are unique to Debian/Ubuntu and won't require a PhD to setup. I really like the default Apache/PHP stack in Ubuntu. Of course I'm particularly interested in Open Source solutions. The new OpenPanel project sounds really exciting, and I've heard lots of people talking about Webmin. Others I've heard good things about include VHCS, ispCP, and ISPConfig.
I want to set up a home computer as server. I've installed Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04, and can access it through SSH. However, I would like to have a browser based interface for managing things, such as installing a phpBB forum and stuff like that. Also, I want my friends to be able to share files on my home server as well. I know I can do it by using FTP, but I would rather not have them to install a FTP program.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is a known issue or not, but I have a strange problem when I scroll through certain applications. For example, whenever I scroll through songbird's lyrics pane or add-ons pane (does not affect the main library pane), the bottom 1/5 scrolls while the top 4/5 stays static. The same applies scrolling up, the top 1/5 scrolls and the rest stays static (the middle never moves either way I scroll).
I've tried using arrow keys to scroll, but it is the same issue. I vaguely remember another app that had this problem (can't think of it at the moment), so I don't think it's a songbird glitch. Does anyone else have this problem or a solution to it?
Is there a way to start nautilus already set in split-pane mode, every time you open a new nautilus window?

It is easy to get them back by disabling and enabling the account, but then it may disappear again in a while.I saw this in a bug report later, but no fix. I shouldn't like to degrade to an earlier version, unless no other way.

1. The minimized KVpnc disappears after connect, no clue where it goes, the other go to Unity Side Bar.
2. Once connected since I cannot see it, how do I disconnect it? I tried opening it from applications again, this time around it says it cannot resolve my VPN server.
3. I see multiple instances of KVpnc running when I do a ps -ef
Can someone please tell me if there is a way to have Nautilus open with the extra pane by default? I use it quite often and would like it to open that way. I have been searching but seem to only find fixes for Gnome on Jaunty and earlier versions.

I've managed to setup Ubuntu Server 9.10, and created folders/files toview/edit/execute with Windows and Mac.
Now here is my dilemma, this is for a home server, and I will have 4 users(1 for myself, one with "admin" rights, my fiance(mac user), media pc, and a "guest" account for the computer or 2 that are out in the public(they don't need access to my taxes ).
I'd like to have it so that on my laptop, I can access the whole server, but some files/folders would even need me to put in a password. I want to do this because my fiance gets delete happy and deletes things, so if she goes on my computer she won't delete important info. I'd like her to have access to music, photos, and videos, as well as her having her own folder that she can treat as her hard drive.
The question is, do I need to setup a domain for this, or can I get away with a workgroup?
I'm setting up an Ubuntu server and I keep getting strange problems with my editor.I'm not sure if this is because my keyboard configuration is wrong or I screwed up the installation but regardless it's quite frustrating.
When using the movement keys (arrows and numpad) I get "[" brackets and "C"s, if I hold down or push down on the key hard a list of errors and text comes up, usually involving something that says something like:"Mount disabled" or "____ disabled press CONTROL-X to restart the shell"Similair problems are also found in vi (when in insert mode).I have been plagued with text editor problems and have need several reboots just to get out of a file, often because it just flat out stopped responding to keyboard commands.
I have been using wamp on an xp box and now have set up ubuntu with the localhost server seeming to be going okay.
As this is just a desktop graphical test server with no real public hosting, I was hoping to find a control panel like in wamp where one can stop/start php, apache, mysql, phpmyadmin and see logs etc.

I'm trying to get the HP Proliant DL120 G6 server a lot quieter after startup under Ubuntu Server 11.04 (x64).
For now, it seems like there is no fan control at all: when I start the server, the fans start running at max speed, then it slightly lowers to 3.5K-5K RPM. Once there, it never goes down or up. There's just no fan or power control at all.
In no specific order, I will describe as much as I can my situation.

I'm wonder why my NTFS partition which automounts on startup (via /etc/fstab) is not in Thunar left pane - both in the tree and shortcuts. But I'm pretty sure the /etc/fstab is correct. Is there any way I can check and correct this?I managed to make a work around though. I created a bookmark of the volume. Although, of course, I wanted it the way it should be in the first place.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.4 with Ubuntu 10.04 but I find the default highlight colours extremely hard to read when new mail arrives in a folder.
The default colour is grey which is both difficult to read and greyed out items have tended to mean something is not available. How can I can i change the default colour to something much better or am I stuck with extremely poor choice ? Has it something to do with 10.04 .
When browsing my external hard disk I noticed that Nautilus' side pane marks directories that contain files as empty. Is this a bug or a misconfiguration on my part?
