So now that it's working the Server can't be seen from the internet. I see that the router changed all the ip address so I changed the fort port forwarding on the router and still not working. And the external ip address has not changed.

The power supply will be replacing a 450 watt power supply and the video card will be replacing an ATI 5750 1 GB (Which currently doesn't work without 10.9, so far) The problem with these is that it doesn't meet the AMP rating of 38A of the GTX 470.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 500GB WesternDigital Elements external harddrive and recently I plugged it into my computer and noticed the green light on the power adapter didn't light up anymore. I'm assuming that the power adapter failed - is this a fairly safe assumption? I know it COULD be something else, but does this at least make sense to move forward?Coincidentally, I've been researching new externals to order a 1.5TB because the 500GB is full.
I'm contemplating two options:
1.) Replace the power supply for ~$40
2.) Take apart the external and mount it internally
If it is in fact the power supply it might be the best option to just replace the thing and have 2 externals for backing up data on. But if it turns out to not be the power supply I'm out $40.I'm not sure how taking apart the external and install the hard drive in a desktop computer would be. Is the harddrive a standard drive? Does it have all the same power cords a normal computer would? If so, I could just install it into my brother's desktop and retreive the data that way (and he'll have an extra 500GB hdd).
I have installed on my computer Solaris10 (64bit version), PCBSD8 (64bit) on 2 primary partitions and 7 Linux distributions (Redhat,Debian,OpenSuse,Fedora,LinuxMint,Slackware,Ubuntu) on the extended partition. I know this might be a stupid question, but here it goes: I have a problem with my actual power supply unit (the fan doesn't work as it should) and I will change it soon. Is there a problem with any of the Linux distributions if I change my power supply unit? I mean, will the Linux operating systems work properly with a new power supply unit or do I have to reinstall all Linux distributions?

I've got one minor issue - it's really more of an annoyance, but I would like to have it solved.When sending e-mails, the messages come in addressed to three destinations - when it's only supposed to be sent to one. What's worse is that the two additional addresses are based on the hostname of the machine.Let me explain: I use this command:Code:mail -s Testing email@somedomain.comI then compose the e-mail and send it. The mail arrive a few seconds later but addresed to the following:Code:from@hostname.domain.com;email@somedomain.com;hostname@hostname.domain.comThe "from@hostname.domain.com" has the actual word "from" in the address. I've installed many, many servers like this in the past and this is the first time that anything wonky with email has happened that I couldn't fix or explain. The machine is running postfix and I installed the bsd-mailx package to get the command line "mail" command (I used to install "mailx", but this seems to work just like the old package).

Now the problem is my OpenSUSE network won't come back on! I set the static ip as Autoeth0 to eth0 however when network updates I losse eth0. Why is this happening? Why doesn't the PC simply re-connect? Can I do it via command line?

Is ther anyway to simply get the result without having to supply a password and to see all user not only me. (i have the file open also).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI registered here and got Ubuntu a couple days ago. After setting up and connecting to my wireless LAN I went on the internet and uploaded the WINE source. However, after about 5-10 seconds of staying on the internet it all of a sudden stopped working (the internet stopped its connectivity) that is. And I was still connected to the wireless LAN. I tried to reconnect like most people would do, and I was not able to connect again (Would prompt me for password continuously to no avail). There isn't a problem on my windows 7 (I'm able to connect to LAN/internet).

Running 10.10 After a main power failure I can't boot.
It says:

and stops.
I get a (initramfs) prompt and have no idea what to do with it.
Allready tried to install 10.10 again from a CD. But it also hangs immediately when it starts to install. The liveCD feature works OK and I can access the hard disk. I tried to update the initramfs with the liveCD but it says I can't write since I have only "read-only" access. But if I do "sudo nautilus" I have full access to the disk.
I was wondering, is it possible to open Ubuntu's main menu from the command line? I've been searching for the answer for about 30 min's now but no luck.

I do find, however, that people like to keep up to date with the -current version, and sadly I can't do that so easily because I live in the middle of nowhere and my only internet is at work. So, I'm looking for a way to download the -current slackware packages and make it into a slackware installation disc (DVD), but I have no idea where to begin - quite literally, I don't know where to find theofficial slackware -current files. I guess after that I have to figure out how to make it into a CD, but that's ok for now

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a server with multiple domains and a DNS service (bind9) my main domain is registered with GoDaddy and it's A-record points to my server, it then has CNAME records with ns1 and ns2. I use ns1 and ns2 to point my other domains to the DNS server I host, which then manages what happens.
Anyway, what I would like to do is enable the DNS server to manage the subdomains on my main host. For example, if the domain was example.com and I use admin.example.com in the DNS server, it will not follow through unless I set the cname up, whereas my others will. How do I do a similar thing for my main domain.
Our area was hit by a power surge and I cannot get the internet connection to work? What can I do. I'm using an AT&T modem which is connected to a netgear router.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSometimes either due to a power outage or due to lightning I turn off my Wimax modem and continue to use my laptop on the battery.Then when I turn the modem back on, there is no internet connection.Here's what I've tried:
1. turn off and on the network connections - right-clicking on the icon on the bar on top of my screen.
2. turn off and on the dsl-provider connection - no effect.
3. When I tried to re-do pppoeconf, it says that there's no response from the concentrator.
This has happened a few times in the past and the only thing I can do to go online again is restart the computer. And it works.Now on Windows, the double-computer icon showing a network indicates connectivity AND data movement. Unfortunately we don't have this on Ubuntu.I'm just after a restart and I'm online now. But I'd like to know if there's a way around this without having to restart.
I am using legacy grub i easily fixed my MBR but how did it vanish on me I attached boot script info results the 1st one is before i fixed is the second is after i would like to know why/how it went poof anyone know how to remove the MBR on /dev/sdb
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been running my Dell SC440 as a home server/workstation for about a year now and whilst it can cope with both roles, it is power hungry, loud and does get a little slow down sometimes. What I am looking to do is create a home server to take away the need of it to be on 24x7.My requirements in a home server would include:
- Media Server (using TwonkyMedia or uShare)
- NZB Downloader (hellaNZB or sabNZB)
- AFP + NFS file serving
- rsync/unison for Linux backups and N900 media sync and backup
- Email/Calendar/Contacts hosting and sync (zimbra or zarafa?)
I would like to achieve this with an Acer Revo and a couple of 1 or 1.5TB external hard disks, I'm unsure if the Atom processor would be strong enough for all of these services, although I could test it using my netbook, if that can cope, the Revo would be able to easily.
About 2 years ago I was trying to figure out a way to use high end GPUs to supplement server processes. I made a post about it:URL...It seems like somebody was able to do this and create a super computer which ran purely on GPUs:URL...It would be interesting to see if this was possible to set up the server kernel to use high end GPUs to add processing power.It should be possible as long as the kernel would handle this as it would a multiple core processor.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am planning to make a home made NAS running ubuntu server 10.04 LTS. Nothing fancy, simple samba with open access for all and openssh for admin access over the network. The NAS will not have heavy traffic, two home computers with occasional access, just to serve as central location. I am in doubt which CPU to use and I am after both budget and power saving solution.
1. I have an old Athlon Clawhammer I can use but the TDP of 90W is putting me off. I can also use existing 2x512MB DDR-400 memory with it. The board would be new.
2. I would rather invest in new mini-ITX board with built-in dual-core Atom D525 (TDP 13W), VGA and Gb ethernet. I would add 2GB DDR3-1333 memory.
Since I would need a new board for the Clawhammer too (current one doesn't have SATA), I am more attracted to option 2. Would the dual-core Atom be enough running this simple home NAS? I think it should but my experience with ubuntu server is limited.
I've done a lot of search and already kind of fixed part of the problem, so this is where the fun comes in. I went away for the week, and not until the day I got back I lost power while out, and my computer rebooted after the power outage to Mac osx, which it's supposed to do as I'm using a Mac Pro and have a regular version of OSX 10.5 on there and my ubuntu server. I restart my computer and I get a few errors and my raid5(3 1tb drives) doesn't mount and says read only for everything else. I finally found a way to remount that raid which while in root I could create new folders and move folders, but only on that raid. I wasn't able to do anything with my boot drive. The weird part is, that now I can't ssh into the server and webmin won't even load. I'm still relatively new(little over a year, but honestly, not much has gone wrong to need to troubleshoot) to ubuntu server, so I'm not that best at troubleshooting it. I won't be home till later tonight, but any tips/tricks/ideas I can try when I get home would be great, or if you need any info, I can get it to you.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have no idea what is happening but I started getting a problem after some updates and then I decided to upgrade to 11.04 from 10.10 to see if this fixed the problem, then I just did a clean install last night and I'm still having problems. I'm always asleep when it happen or not around so I'm not sure what is happening right before this screen, but I can say I usually will only have VLC open (at this point I'm sure it stopped playing videos) and maybe Transmission in the background, nothing else. The computer won't respond to the Ctr+Alt+B+PrtScn or to the power button, or to Crt+Alt+F2 or the like, seems completely frozen...
