Ubuntu Servers :: Downloading Jpg From Php Webpages?
Mar 4, 2011
I'm trying to create an archive of a websites images because it tends to go offline now and then. The problem is, when going to the image in full view, it opens it on a php webpage. I've tried using 'wget -m -A.jpg' but it only saves the thumbnails from the menu page instead of the actual images.

I'm really desperate as I have spent the better part of the last 10 hours trying to sort this out before my boss finds out
When I try and browse to one of our websites the browser wants to download the file as the server will not process the php file. I get which is a: application/x-httpd-php
What's really odd is that from inside the network where the server is located everything works fine, its only from the outside that this happens?
Everything was fine until I ran an system update from webmin that updated a ton of things including Apache2 and PHP5.
Its a self hosted server that was running UB server 9.10, but I have since upgraded to 10.04.2 LTS but no luck.
Apache version 2.2.14
PHP Version 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9
Joomla 1.5 -latest

I'm using my mobile to connect to the internet when ever the mobile is connected and the wired connection established the server running properly. But when the wired connection disconnected my browser page didn't show the localhost home. How can I configure the apache on my machine.

I am thinking of starting a business creating web pages and supplying a 'enterprise server' type solutions, whilst still being highly cost effective - eg recomend the client to use an 'old' pc for the majority of their server needs (LDAP, mail, firewall, web server etc). I plan on doing all of this on a linux platform, so as to pass the cost savings of related 'microsoft enterprise systems' to my clients ~ thereby making my proposition more interesting to clients. However I'm not sure if the 'old' pc idea will 'cut the mustard' in terms of serving web pages. So my real question is, at what point does the speed of the internet connection reach a bottle neck with the speed of my CPU? As an 'example' in case I'm not being very clear (which I'm not sure I am).
My old pc has an AMD athlon chip in it, and equally old 30GB and 40GB HDD (SCSI ~ did I mention that they are old!). My intention is to set up a system to the above type specification at home, to see how long it takes me to do, and to give me an idea of what I should charge clients. I understand all the technology, but initially (to save on personal startup costs) I was intending to use my old pc as my personal gateway to the world, $40 for the web registration for 1 year is a considerable saving compared to the $20 per month for a hosted service ~ although as soon as things are going and being 'profitable' I would most likely either upgrade my server or get a hosted service. Any tools I can download onto the server to 'determine' the power consumption over any given period?

I have an Ubuntu 9.10 server set up at my house. I have Apache2 and PHP5 installed on it. Every time I go to the server on a web page and try to load the PHP index page it downloads instead of displaying.
I have virtual servers set up and have the files stored at /home/cusinndzl. If anyone needs to take a look I can let them into the webmin panel.

Whenever I do anything in Zypper, there is always a huge lag before it starts downloading a file, but then it downloads at normal speed. I think this has to do with the fact that it is now trying to download from multiple servers, and I would like to turn that off. Where do I go for that?

I want to download a file (reasonably large) from say for e.g sourceforge. The problem is some mirrors give speeds of at max 40kB/s and I was considering options to increase this. I considered download managers and seems to work somewhat I experimented with axel and lftp's pget. Now I am wondering how I might download the same file from severals servers (say sourceforge's various mirrors). I tried axel by concataneting all server adresses but not sure if it is working. How do I verify that it is indeed using all the servers specified??

I would like to run a small file server at home which I could connect to both remotely and within my own network. I was thinking of using something similar to a cheap dell optiplex machine (Pentium 3 or 4 2GHz?, with 256mb ram and a 40GB hard drive[will do something about the lack of space later]).The file server part of this should be straightforward but I wanted advice on how I could manage downloads on the machine. On my laptop I currently use both firefox's built in download manager and JDownloader. Sometimes Jdownloader isn't the ideal solution for all downloads, e.g. sometimes a single connection through firefox gets a faster download speed. I also occcasionally download torrents through Miro.
If anyone has setup something like what I'm suggesting, could you please give me a general idea of how best to go about this?

How to can I host my own domain by myself for free?I've installed phpmyAdmin, ehcp, filezilla, mySql, mySql query browser, proftpd, gforge, wordpress, activeperl.I'm not sure either how to make a domain name for my IP address and how to use dynamic DNS.
1) OK, I've got to admit that I'm a newbie in networking.
2) I'm lost with tons of different programs, I don't know where to start from now, there are many methods. I have made many user names and passwords...
3) What to do? I don't want a local web page, All I want is get my web page on Internet where anyone else can visit it.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64bit and am having a problem with Firefox. I'm currently dual booting windows 7 and Ubuntu. My net works perfectly on Windows 7 and even on Ubuntu I was able to download a NVIDIA driver and 193MB worth of updates for Ubuntu. I just can't seem to load any webpages on Firefox. I have DHCP enabled but I also tried a static IP address but still had no success. I also tried adjusting my proxy settings in Firefox cycling through no proxy, Auto-detect proxy settings etc. but i still could not load any pages.
The error message is always "The connection has timed out. The server at ubuntu.com is taking too long to respond." I've tried other websites and can't load them. As a point of interest I was able to access my routers web config page.

I've run into problems in some websites where Chrome, Chromium, Firefox and Konqueror will not render the pages correctly (yes, I've installed and tried them all). I've tried on three different computers with dual boot Windows and Ubuntu and get the same results...If I boot into windows, I can browse the pages with no problems, however, in Ubuntu these pages just hang at certain points...Is there some setting I can adjust to improve web performance?[URL]Orbrowse by location, a warning sign appears, click 'agree' and wait endlessly...Why would these pages work correctly on Windows, but not in Ubuntu?I HATE having to boot into Windows, so if I can avoid it I will!

I had actually the same problem in 10.10, but I was patiently hoping that 11.04 will fix it for me. At the moment it's facebook(nothing will load) and lifehacker(mainpage will load, but further on no news will load) First of it loads facebook after fresh install, but when i closed firefox, and reopened it, it won't load. I pinged facebook.com and it's working:S Chrome for instance loaded facebook atm, but didnt load lifehacker news aswell. Altho Windows on same machine will do it perfectly. I would like to use 100% ubuntu, but its not possible if some essential webpages won't load

I just recently had to have Ubuntu installed on my computer, and of course, the Web Browser they put on here is Firefox, which I love, however...... Before I had Ubuntu, I had Windows, but due to a problem with a nasty virus, and then not having the original product code for Windows, I couldn't get Windows back on my computer so they put lovely Ubuntu on it. Now, I am a Manager at a hotel, and I have to be able to view my hotel security cameras from home when I am not at work. It is an IP web address and it is not compatible with Firefox. My question is this. Is there any plugin out there that would make webpages that are non compatible with Firefox able to be viewed?

So I have a laptop that I installed 9.10 on recently and for a bit everything was going fine. I have done a few updates over the course of the past week and for a couple days now I have got a huge problem. I am unable to view web pages without having to refresh them over and over until it finally loads. I thought this issue was only with Firefox and I researched the issue and ended up disabling ipv6 in FF. To no avail.
Synaptic Package Manager also will not connect to the internet. It will receive the list of updates but as soon as I click install it sticks on Downloading File 1 of XX. Since it wasn't limited to Firefox and there is debate on whether ipv6 slows down connectivity, I have disabled it system wide. Also to no avail. I have confirmed this to be so with wired and wireless connections to my router.

I loaded Orca but was turned off by the 'machine voice' feature. I noticed Gnome-mag in my files list but that does not seem to work for me?!?

When the installation had finished I had no Internet access on the computer.Or..it's not exactly NO Internet access - I am able to enter Google (at least that's the only one I've managed to enter - And yes, I've tried more than one..). Furthermore, I am not able to update the system..
For starters:
The computer is running Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit
I've attached the output of 'ifconfig -a' Other than that, I don't know what information will be relevant, so please ask for whatever is needed to (hopefully) get this to work

I have Ubuntu 9.10 and I am trying to get my ALFA network adapter to work. It shows a few wireless locations including my brother who lives beside me. He is going to let me use his internet on my laptop. His connection is opened and I can connect to it fine... but no sites load... I've tried about 4 other open networks that I picked up and the same thing... it sometimes loads the first page but then thats it... This is suppose to be the best network adapter on the market for under $100. I have a 5dBi ant and a 2.4ghz 6dBi ant.
Oh yea, I've tired this on two other ubuntu 9.10 desktops and 1 laptop and get the same thing... I am however able to connect to my wireless router and browser the internet... but I will not have internet much longer

This happens to me with any browser (tested: Firefox, Chrome and Opera) and DE (tested; Gnome, KDE, LXDE). While for the most part, the text is OK, some text looks quite messed up (please look at the attachment for an example).
By inspecting the affected pages, I fond that usually (maybe ever?) when the characters are garbled, the font is Tahoma.
Then I tested with The Gimp and its text tool: I choosed Tahoma and I tried to type something inside an image. Same issue. It seems to happens when the font size is 14 px or >= 17 px.

I haven't used linux in years, but decided to try out Ubuntu. I'm a total newb at this but it has been pretty easy to transition over from Vista. I have had no problem with it for months, and then all of a sudden my internet doesn't work. It says that it is connected to my router but i can't connect to the internet. Typical troubleshooting has not helped. Most advice I have gotten was to try installing the NDISwrapper, but Ubuntu won't let me install it without internet access (that, or the package I tried to use from my USB is messed up??).

So last night I decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 using the WUBI installer, everything went well and it installed, but there was one problem. I didn't have any wireless networking options, so I scavenged this forum using google and came across on how to fix it using System -> Adminstrator -> Additional Drivers. I reset my laptop(Dell Inspiron 14R N4010 I believe) and to my success, I was able to join my network. So I took out the cable(The wired connection has worked since fresh install) and it didn't work... I updated using Synaptic Package Manager and restarted, hoping it would work, but it didn't.

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, I have this problem where programs to redirect me to webpages. It just loads up my home page and acts like it's finished. Even if I have Firefox previously open, nothing happens.Programs this happens with are Apport (when I try to file bug-reports), Tomboy (if I click "get add-ins"), and Liferea until I edited a setting telling it not to use the default gnome browser but to use Firefox.I know the first thing you'd think hearing that is that my web browser isn't set in my gnome default applications, but it is. When I open firefox in terminal this error pops up
Code:
LIBDBUSMENU-GTK-CRITICAL **: dbusmenu_menuitem_property_set_shortcut: assertion `gtk_accelerator_valid(key, modifier)' failed

I use Debian 6. I noticed that when ever I try to open certain websites, the pages doesn't load at all. This happens when I try to open [URL] and certain other web pages. Browsers like chrome, epiphany, iceweasel, opera all had the same issue. The download speed is pretty normal. note that disabling ipv6 inside the browser configuration didn't help fight this issue.

I have recently installed fedora 13 on my desktop, it is ibm hardware, an older 1 gig processor, it is a full install, it functions fine but with one problem. The ethernet card is functioning, however the only web pages I can get to come up is the fedora stuff I believe comes with it. I have looked at the forums and guide and they all say it should connect itself and be good to go, it has found the connection, but cant find anything on the internet. I have two computers connected to a router, when running windows both connect just fine. When I switch mine over to fedora it will not open any web pages, gives me a "cant find the server" message. I have tried several things including changing settings and manually setting IP addresses and mac addresses, nothing has worked.

The wired internet connection for my notebook works fine after starting up Fedora. Webpages load quickly. But if I close the notebook for as little as 10 minutes, webpages won't load at all, even though NetworkManager still shows that there's an internet connection.
Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't fix the problem, and neither does logging out and logging back in. Restarting the computer does fix the problem. This problem doesn't occur with Windows 7 on the same machine.
