I'm using ubuntu 9.04, I want to design webpages in PHP for that I installed apache 2 on my machine. I'm using my mobile to connect to the internet when ever the mobile is connected and the wired connection established the server running properly. But when the wired connection disconnected my browser page didn't show the localhost home. How can I configure the apache on my machine.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to configure Apache on my server to work with ssl, but everytime I visit my site, I get the following message in my browser: SSL connection error. Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have.
Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error. Just some background on the situation: I am using Ubuntu 10.04 desktop edition. I installed apache by installing zend server (it installed apache automatically). I then installed openssl. Non-https pages work fine on the site. I tried getting trial certificates from multiple certificate sites but nothing is working (same error). I was previously hosting my site on another server on which ssl worked just fine. I also tried using the key and crt file from that server, but I got the same error. The domain name and IP are still the same though. My SSLCertificateFile and SSLCertificateKeyFile are pointing to the correct directory and files.

I installed apache on my local machine to test my sites. I have one problem:I created a new site configuration in /etc/apache2/sites-available and enabled it. The problem is that cgi is not working, it just prints the content of the files. I have Apache Server working online under Fedora Core 6. But before I installed and configured everything, I've been testing in Fedora 12. The problem surges here, when I start the httpd service, every supuse 404 action on a web browser, takes me to localhost. I mean, if I enter google.com, no error, just goes to localhost, http://asdasd, no error, gives back localhost. I used to ignore the problem 'cause I thought it was a problem on my apache, but when I installed the Server on the Fedora Core 6 machine, I found that I have the same problem there. Of course, it only occurs when I am browsing through the same machine that has httpd started. Does anyone know how to change that??

I'm having windows 7 on virtualbox too and they can ping each other and the webserver on debian (apache2) is working fine. The problem is i can't get squid to block webpages. I have the correct settings on windows proxy settings, but i'm not so sure about squid. I want to block lets say www . xxx. com for example. So I add to the main configuration file:

I'm trying to create an archive of a websites images because it tends to go offline now and then. The problem is, when going to the image in full view, it opens it on a php webpage. I've tried using 'wget -m -A.jpg' but it only saves the thumbnails from the menu page instead of the actual images.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed Debian with the latest testing iso, and I'm having problems connecting to the web via browser. I can ping hostnames (i.e. google.com, debian.org, etc.) from the terminal and it resolves just fine, but if I try to load a page from Iceweasel or Epiphany it says the page won't load because it can't resolve the hostname. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?the detail that I'm running amd64. I've checked iptables and found no entries, and for good measure I flushed it to be certain. I also checked resolv.conf but that looked normal, just a nameserver entry pointing to my home router. I'm new to Debian, but have used Linux for years, and I'm genuinely stumped. I'm sure the solution will smack me in the head for its simplicity, but nonetheless I need at least a shove in the right direction.

When I try and browse to one of our websites the browser wants to download the file as the server will not process the php file. I get which is a: application/x-httpd-php
What's really odd is that from inside the network where the server is located everything works fine, its only from the outside that this happens?
Everything was fine until I ran an system update from webmin that updated a ton of things including Apache2 and PHP5.
Its a self hosted server that was running UB server 9.10, but I have since upgraded to 10.04.2 LTS but no luck.

I am thinking of starting a business creating web pages and supplying a 'enterprise server' type solutions, whilst still being highly cost effective - eg recomend the client to use an 'old' pc for the majority of their server needs (LDAP, mail, firewall, web server etc). I plan on doing all of this on a linux platform, so as to pass the cost savings of related 'microsoft enterprise systems' to my clients ~ thereby making my proposition more interesting to clients. However I'm not sure if the 'old' pc idea will 'cut the mustard' in terms of serving web pages. So my real question is, at what point does the speed of the internet connection reach a bottle neck with the speed of my CPU? As an 'example' in case I'm not being very clear (which I'm not sure I am).
My old pc has an AMD athlon chip in it, and equally old 30GB and 40GB HDD (SCSI ~ did I mention that they are old!). My intention is to set up a system to the above type specification at home, to see how long it takes me to do, and to give me an idea of what I should charge clients. I understand all the technology, but initially (to save on personal startup costs) I was intending to use my old pc as my personal gateway to the world, $40 for the web registration for 1 year is a considerable saving compared to the $20 per month for a hosted service ~ although as soon as things are going and being 'profitable' I would most likely either upgrade my server or get a hosted service. Any tools I can download onto the server to 'determine' the power consumption over any given period?
When using Linux, like Fedora or Ubuntu, can WINE run Abobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression or is there a program in Linux that has a similar user interface to Adobe or Microsoft? Further, does Amaya or Netbeans have free tutorials, or books or e-books? I need to adjust a Flash template, but things are going wrong with free trials of each, and I am concerned that if I buy the CDs that I may waste my money, as much as $600. I think WINE may run them, but Microsoft need net framework 4.0 and Silverlight, then the trial of Expression lasts 30 days.

When I try I go to servers->Apache Webserver-> Create Virtual Host I change the port to 81 and the document root to /var/port81www then I click create. How ever when I goto 192.168.1.5:81 (local ip, I know I have to port forward but its not even working local) it does not work.

I've got OpenSSL installed on the server and followed this tutorial. However, I still get an error message saying that either OpenSSL or PHPs support for OpenSSL are missing: Could not generate a new SSL key. Are you sure that both openssl and the PHP module for openssl are installed on this machine?
What would be the next steps to actually set up the Apache server and PHP so they can use OpenSSL? (I've already specified the path to my caconfig.cnf file in Maharas config.php)
I am trying to access logs Apache logs (I just installed Apache) and it is giving me permission denied errors. What permissions did you give to yourself in order to access these logs or should I just add this user(myself) to adm group?I can access other log files with no problems for example ssh logs.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince a few month, I upgraded my configuration to an Acer Aspire E 17 laptop. I dropped the Windows 8 that was installed inside by default. Right now my hard disk looks like that :
- A Windows 10 Installation form the final released version's iso
- A Debian 8.1 Installation with Gnome 3.x as desktop
As I am a developper, I enjoy Debian, the power, and the capabilities unlocked with Linux systems. However, I still need my Windows installation for design work, making templates, etc. For now, I need to boot Debian if I want to code, and to boot Windows if I want to use some proprietary programs such as Adobe's softwares. For a lot of reasons I can explain, I don't want to use alternative like Gimp, and I don't want to run so big softwares under Wine.
So, I want to do the following : I want to create a little partition formatted in ext4 on my disk (something like 10gb ?) and make this partition running my local configuration of Apache 2. This way, I could run my webserver, with the same files both on Debian (when I need to code) and Windows (when I need to design / template and to test some stuffs into my templates files). I could mount this partition under Windows using ext2fsd program, but this way of thinking supposes there is both Apache's linux binaries and Apache's windows binaries to run and manage the server in this partition (making something like a " portable " version ?) .
I haven't used Plone in quite a while and am having problems getting Apache to serve it up now. I'm using the same configuration that I used for proxying Plone sites for a couple of years, but now that same configuration now gives me the following error in Apache's error log: [warn] proxy: No protocol handler was valid for the URL /. If you are using a DSO version of mod_proxy, make sure the proxy submodules are included in the configuration using LoadModule.Here's the proxy modules I'm loading for troubleshooting purposes for now.

I've Googled this extensively and it seems most people who ran into this problem hadn't loaded the proxy_http module after upgrading to Apache 2.2 from 2.0.
Edit: BTW, I'm using Plone 4.0.3 now. I was running Plone 2.5 before. I don't see why that would be a problem though as VHM's are now built into Zope.

I have apache running on my server, and also Zoneminder, a surveillance system running on the same machine. Both services runs without glitches, and I think apache's config as well as ZM's config are fine. I am not sure I understand how apache (not to mention the whole thing zoneminder, apache, web browser...) works. Pretty hard to manage when you dont know what you are doing. Also, when I try the supposed to work zoneminder webpage in my web browser, I get nothing (a blank page), or sometimes a "Not found" error message. The latest seems to be from apache because it is the same font as the "It works!" message when I try http://localhost:80
The only bit of information I have so far is in the apache error log (/var/log/httpd/error_log) and it says:

I read the apache docs, but there is a lot of stuff, which is different in Debian [lenny, 5.0.6]. Apache ignores the host-header given by the browser: [URL] are all served, but should be blocked. I new new to apachy, but on my IIS this works as expected. All browsers act equal [so no browser header problem].I configured two VirtualHosts, an excerpt:

The I go to my hosts file on any box, and add hugo's ip-address under the new name x. Then, x is served, although the host-header in apache Every user coming from the internet could make the same!
In a squeeze box, I installed awstats and it's working like a charm. Its cron job update the awstats database every 10 minutes (as it runs as root). But I would like to be able to update the statistics from the browser as well. So I setup everything as required and I gave "read" access to "others" to every apache log file. Now, a couple of questions came to my mind:
1. Am I compromising server's security giving "read" access to "others" to apache log files?
2. Instead of giving "read" access to "others", I could add www-data user to adm group (as apache log files are owned by root:adm and permissions are rw-r----). Is this more secure than giving "read" access to "others"? 3. If the option would be giving "read" access to "others" at the end, a log file would be owned by root:adm and its permissions be rw-r--r--. As apache rotates its log files, when Apache create a new log file, does it preserve the permissions (rw-r--r--) or create it with the default permissions (rw-r-----)?
