View 2 Replies'm running Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04 dual-boot. After installing Ubuntu, I installed CompizConfig. So, here's my problem. I tried to enable the 3d workspace seitcher and when I did the title bars for all the windows disappeared. And I couldn't disable the 3d switcher. Not knowing what else to do, I restarted the computer. Now when I log in, it goes to my wallpaper but nothing works. All can do is shut down/restart by pressing ctrl alt delete. Is there anything I can do other than reinstalling?
View 2 Replies View RelatedEverything worked 100% great untill I change color depth to 16 bits.I do not want 24 Bits, I want 16 Bits. I have good reasons. Never had this problem in Gutsy 7.10 ...I deeply regret in upgrading to 9.10 ...
My video card:
Gforce 7950 GX2
Changes to xorg.conf file: Firstly, I saved it at 16 color depth with the sudo nvidia-settings and by clicking on the save to xorg.conf file Button. Rebooted computer....... It worked, saved file, and I got the following bugs:
*Cannot move windows by dragging their title bars.
*Cannot see close "X" Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Minimize Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Maximize Button in the title bar.
Went back to 24 bits and problem got resolved. Then i tryed: I did sudo gedit xorg.conf I changed all the 24's with 16's ... Rebooted computer....... It works GOOD... BUT: I got the same bugs from before. I will retype them below
*Cannot move windows by dragging their title bars.
*Cannot see close "X" Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Minimize Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Maximize Button in the title bar.

Whenever I boot into Ubuntu Karmic, the visual effects are turned off and any window I open has no title bar.The cursor keeps displaying the Busy wheel, even if nothing's happening. I have to go into Appearances and manually set my visual effects.I don't know how this happened, but it started around the time I installed CompizConfig.Karmic Koala, 1.6GHZ Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM, dual-booting with Windows XP.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and I installed Compiz Fusion but now the only thing I can open that has a title bar that I can move around is Google Chrome, everything else I open, even firefox, has no title bar and I cant move the boxes around the screen.

View 5 Replies View RelatedEclipse has too thick title bars (see attachment), even when changing the default font size from 10 to 8 the font changes, but the borders remain the same.Tested with Eclipse 3.6 in Ubuntu 10.04, Kubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 13.In Windows XP the title bars are thinner (in Eclipse 3.5 and 3.6), and also remain the same when changing the default font size from 8 to 10.
So the default font size differs in those two OS'es.It looks like the title bars under Linux are designed for 10px fonts, whereas in Windows for 8px.What are your experiences with Eclipse?
I have just upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04
Using gnome I can no longer see the title bars of any windows or the minimise, restore and close buttons.
Example is shown here: [url]
I just moved from the netbook remix of Ubuntu to the normal version... I really didn't like the desktop layout of UNR. One feature I did like, though, was that every time a window was maximized, the title bar was integrated into part of the top panel... which saved a lot of space on this tiny little screen. Is there a nice way to get that feature on the normal version of Ubuntu?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe title bars / window decorations are missing since the last update done about two days ago. I have AMD64 / nvidia 6600 / 2GB / compiz. Latest driver is installed for nvidia and it was working without any problems since 9.04. Now I find that desktop visual effects are selected as 'None' and I am unable to make it 'extra'. Earlier it was set as custom and I had no problems. I have searched the forums and tried many solutions without any success. Now I am running metacity (metacity --replace)with no visual effects, 'compiz --replace' brings back the problem . Is there any way of enabling visual effects // compiz now? Or do I have to re-instal the whole thing
View 9 Replies View RelatedI came into work this morning to find XFCE's window manager completely broken: no title bars, unable to move windows around, and unable to focus on a window to type in it (terminal, browser address bar, etc.). I tried going into the preferences then window manager settings, but just got a blank panel. Deleting .config/xfce4 didn't solve the problem.
I'm thinking of just doing a clean install of Xubuntu, or more likely another Xfce-based distro, since my current setup (regular Ubuntu with Xubuntu also installed) is quite messed up (same startup applications being used for Gnome and Xfce, and various other issues). I can't remember whether I did any updates last Friday that might have broken it.
Interestingly I used to have similar issues with Xmonad when I used it - some features didn't work properly and I had to restart the WM to fix them. Never did find a proper solution.
owners out there they released the KindleforPC program today. As expected it's only Windows and (soon) Mac, BUT it WILL run on Linux under Wine with only a couple of oddities. (Such as not being able to see the text on dropdown menus and title bars. If you click into a book it'll load for reading, you just can't see any of the menuing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedToday upon booting my Xubuntu 9.04, I see that all new windows I open have their title bar missing and on top of my pannel menu. If I try to run windows manager from the menu, nothing shows up on the screen. Therefore I think my windows manager is not running at all. I have no graphic effects and dont want any. I noticed that nothing shows up on the task bar (bottom bar) when I have anything opened up in the desktop. Can't minimize, can't click close button, ...How do I fix this ? I followed a thread to install Compiz and emerald just so I could get it to work but I do not like this option. I do not want any special effects. The more effects/options I have the more possible problems I may get. By the way I also have this problem on my office Ubuntu 10.04. Both started having this problem recently. I suspect it is an update that was done that is causing this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've been testing Gnome Do and I now want to activate docky. To do that I have to activate the desktop effects, so I installed drivers for my graphics card which work fine. But I have an infamous issue with my compiz which causes all title bars of windows to disappear. Is there a solution in which I can activate docky and still have my title bars?
View 1 Replies View RelatedUpon turning on compiz, all the title bars above windows are lost, I am using the drivers on NVIDIA's website for my Geforce MX 4000 and I am using gnome. I tried doing what it says here, but the title bars are still lost.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently installed openSUSE 11.4 on my computer and laptop (both 64bit via dvd, one has AMD CPU and nVidia gpu, the other has intel cpu and graphics card). The problem is that when I move my mouse on close and minimize and maximize buttons of windows sometimes they aren't rendered correctly, and KDE menues aren't rendered correctly either, they mix with the background somehow. the menu problem goes away if I change the theme to plastik, but the window problem remains, here are links to some picture of what goes wrong in my system:

PS: Enabling or disabling desktop effects has no effect on the problem.
I am a ubuntu novice. I am running 10.04 LTS on a Lenova laptop. Runs fine. Yesterday upgraded firefox and upgraded Java 6 from update 20 to update 24 so that I could use the Zotero bibiliographic program in FF. After the upgrade and restart, the windows title bar that includes minimize, maximize and close buttons has disappeared from all windows that I open except google chrome. If I open and app, or FF, or the dvd player, title bar is gone. I have noticed that Java updates have caused similar problems before but none of the prescribed steps seems to have changed my system

Now it was working fine.. perfect even.. until i was working on a second virus infect pc in bed with the keyboard connection to this pc next to me. What happened next is a bit embarrassing and also why i have no idea what i did or how to fix it. Well i found the virus in the laptop i was repairing (god i hate vista.) when i wiggled in excitement .. only the keyboard slide under my breast and the next thing i know my screen looks stretched and i have no bars. i can move my mouse beyond the right and the bottom edges of the screen and i can't change anything cause i can't get any option.. or least i don't know how to get them without the bars.. i can't even reboot if i wanted to cause my task bar is GONE. the bottom active bar is there.. off screen where i can see it but if i drag my mouse down far enough it is there to click on things. However the top bar that i need is gone. I am NOT good with terminal.. nor do i know how to open it without the top task bar. Right now i'm cursing a storm and being very angry about being a woman.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWell I was currently using Ubuntu 9.10 and up until just before the release of 10.04 it was allowing me to view what is now my problem. I attend an online school so this is a big problem for me. I can not view a course button that accesses my course. I was able to view these buttons a while ago in 9.10 but then I couldn't anymore and still can't in 10.04.
I tried results in Firefox, Opera and Konqueror and nothing is different. Here is a picture for what I am trying to show: [URL] The button should be in the lower left of that frame. It is not a website error because it works perfectly on my Windows box. Is there a quick fix like Javascript that is not showing correctly or something similar? AT first I thought it was a theme problem but I changed my theme and no different.
I have a strange problem, icons are not showing up correctly in various places, attaching some screens to better show the problem.
Anything I open that has a notification icon, just appears exactly the same, as you can see in one of the screens even hovering over certain things brings up that same icon...
Edit: After some searching I see it's an nvidia bug...
fonts not showing up correctly in web browsers and the likes, more specifically bold fonts. On some sites, these show up correctly, but on others, they don't. I have no idea what's causing this, as it seems to have happened without me doing anything (like, literally, I opened a terminal window, then went back to my browser (Chrome, but I suppose that doesn't matter, as it happens on all browsers) and the problem showed up. Note that these fonts used to show up just fine.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running Fedora release 14 (Laughlin) and my Vim version is 'VIM - Vi IMproved 7.3 (2010 Aug 15, compiled Nov 16 2010 17:05:33)'. I've been trying for quite some time to get a more informative status line in my Vim window but to no avail. I am pasting my very last effort which is as simple as possible. Here is my .vimrc file:
Code:
set statusline=%B
set laststatus=2
Here is what the status line shows:
Code:
Documents/Work/fileName.txt
The .vimrc file does get processed, I've tried many other 'set statusline' combinations but everything failed.
My desktop is off to the left and there is a space at the right. How do i correct this. I know i have done this before but i forgot. I looked at the 'Nvidia x server settings' but i have never figured the things in that out!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just managed to compress my LVs, extend my VG to my new SSD, move the LVs to the SSD and remove the old disk from the VG. All is well and good (mind you, I did kill my /home partition but it's sorted now...)
My next step was to shrink the PV (I think that's what I want to shrink?) so that I can add another partition to the SSD (to reduce compile times). See below for my current setup. I have a 35G PV with LVs totalling around 33G but the "partition" of the LVM is still 58G.

I have this problem for a while but didn't notice it until lately(i did reboot the machine for few months). Now that i reboot it frequently i notice that the clock is always not what is supposed to be. I'm in Toronto, Canada so it should be GMT -5:00. Sometimes it shows GMT-6, sometimes -10, now is GMT -11. Anyone would know why i have this issue? I'm running Suse11.1 on a 64 bit. My laptop which runs on 32 bit is working fine.(well probably different versions for kernel and kde.(whatever was in th repository to be updated i updated)

Version 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4) "release 2"
I found that some application icons in the panel bar (at the bottom) is not shown correctly, which makes it hard to tell which application it is when I iconify that application. For example, the emacs application icon in panel bar used to be like a goat head. But now it looks like a generic icon, which I cannot tell it is an emacs application. I attached a screen shot here to show this issue.
