Ubuntu Servers :: Cannot Find Printer Attached To New 10.04?
Oct 12, 2010
Having had an old machine running SMEServer for some time, I've decided it doesn't suit my needs and I've gone the Ubuntu Server 10.04 root. I'm having trouble connecting to a HP LaserJet 5P attached to the parallel port of the server. I had no trouble connecting to it when the server was running SMEServer, however, as this distro is aimed at Windows clients, the printer was configured as a Samba share.
In the new 10.04 configuration, I do not have Samba installed as I have no need for it. I'm exclusively Linux based (Ubuntu 10.04 desktop). Surely I do not have to install Samba in order to print?

I have a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 and my basement computer running Windows 7. I want to be able to access files on on both computers from either. I also want to be able to print from my laptop to the printer attached to the basement computer. I finally got printing working. Then I tackled the filesharing. I finally get filesharing working and now, I can't get printing working again, even though I've gone back to the version of smb.conf that I had when I was able to print. So here is what I've got.
<->testparm
Testparm results.txt
<-> Printer State
When I look at my printer properties in Ubuntu I see the status: Idle - Unable to connect to CIFS host after (tried 3 times) Cups Error Log When I look at the Printer Error Log, I see: (partial) Printer log extract.txt I can ping the IP address of the windows box 192.168.0.5, but when I try to ping the name owner-pc it fails. This would lead me to beleive that the there is a name resolution problem.

I am having some trouble getting one PC (Windows XP) to see the printer attached to the other PC (Ubuntu). I went to System > Administration > Printing in Ubuntu and did the following: Checked the box next to "Publish shared printers connected to this system" Checked "Enabled", "Accepting jobs", and "Shared" in the properties of the printer. I have an HP Deskjet 5650. Is there anything else I need to be doing?

I have a Brother mfc-8890dw that is attached to my local area network.I can ping the static ip address of the printer and receive a reply. I can print from all applications.I cannot scan. I did modify the rules files but that only appears pertinent for usb attached devices. What do I need to do to get XSane to recognize my Ethernet attached scanner/printer?

Want to access a printer attached to a windows 7 server. What I did was the following: 1. Installed samba-common, samba-client & samba-winbind. 2. Included Samba & Samba Client as Trusted Services in the Firewall with system-config-firewall. 3. SELinux is Disabled (in System Default Enforcing Mode). 4. Shared the printer in the Windows 7 server. Other Windows hosts in the LAN can print successfully.
In system-config-printer, I selected Add Printer -> Windows Printer via SAMBA -> Browse... The SMB Browser successfully found the Share and the Host, but won't show the printer. Am I missing something here? The samba wiki mentions that I also need to change some windows registries in this page: [URL].... Do I really need to do this? I don't want to needlessly mess with windows registry

How can I find a MAC of hardware attached via ethernet cable? I have been working nicely with an industrial scanner that is controlled by a Linux PC via an ethernet cable, but the hard drive has died I need to get it working again. The problem is that the main PCB has a Realtek RTL8019AS ethernet controller chip: [URL] which I believe is used in the most basic way possible, applied straight off-the-shelf and unconfigured. To utilise the chip ARP commands are used to assign an IP address to the chips MAC address e.g. something like:
arp -s 192.168.2.5 00-05-a4-00-a8-f8
Unfortunately the actual MAC address was lost along with the HD Th only thing I could have a reasonable guess at is that the chip will have a default subnet of 255.255.0.0 or 255.255.255.0

It's my first time setting a local server up and getting everything to go smoothly, at the moment I have the server running LAMP and I control it using SSH. I like to know how I can get the server online and actually connect a domain to it? I have the ISPConfig setup and it runs perfectly fine, what I like to know is:
How do I attached a IP to the server? (or can I just access it using the IP i have now?)

I want to know if there any way to find out interface of Linux Box(Suse 9>)is onboard or externally attached (pci slot)?
Note:- This is a problem which I am facing in my work. In onsite server we need to configure n/w card too. So some time when we configure, I'm confusing which interface should be configured. Client insisting us to configure embedded(onboard) interface. How to find out that.

As the title says the machine name is not showing up in the attached devices list on my router. Is there a file where I need to add the name? Or is this an issue with the router? The router finds all the other machine names on the network except my 3 servers.

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) on a desktop that is part of a small home network. The server has a laser printer on its parallel port. I want to use the printer connected to the server.
If I go to System>Administration>Printing and click on "add printer" a box opens with choices, one of which is to find a network printer.
What do I enter in the box that asks for the Host location?
If I enter the name of the server, or its IP address, and click the "Find" button, it goes to work and says "searching", then comes back and says "printer not found at that address".
What is the correct way to enter the location of the network Host and its printer?
The server is running Ubuntu 10.10 server edition.

I just rescued an old Lexmark Z35 and have been trying to find the file CJLZ35LE-CUPS-2.0-1.TAR.GZ. All the links I've found in this forum and Google seem to be broken. Does anyone know where can I find them? I have a Lexmark x5250 too, which I haven't been able to use in Ubuntu. I've heard there's a way to make it work.

Have Ubuntu 10.10 on Toshiba Laptop and Brother Wireless printer HL-2170W Everything worked OK and could install printer and print. However now system will not find printer, only thing I can think of that is different is that I installed all updates a few nights ago. If I go to System/Admin/Printing/Add Printer/Find - it will not find it. Have removed and reinstalled the Cups printer config tool. I am new to Linux. System will print when booted to Vista.

I can't use my printer/scanner - it is an Epson TX110. When I try to use Image scan - I get the message; "Could not send the command to scanner. Check the scanner's status."
There is nothing wrong with the MFC apart from not working on Ubuntu 9.10. I have had it connected to another computer that ran Ubuntu 9.01 (I think that was the release used) and it ran fine but now I'm stuck -
I have drivers installed but cant get them to co-operate with me.

In December I finally filled up my root partition and broke Suse 11.1. I therefore resized my partitions and installed Suse 11.3 on /root. I didn't not touch my /home partition.
Last week I had a paper jam in the printer. This has been cleared and as far as I know the printer is now fine. However the printer will not print. In url, it says printing has been paused, but I cannot find resume printer/printing anywhere.
I have tried Google, but the instructions do not appear to match where I would find 'resume printer'.I am able to provide further information.

When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?

I just downloaded and installed openSUSE 11.2. It looks good. Very fast and extremely stable.
My problem is that I use a 'Canon MP280' Printer / Scanner / Copier.
It seems that my printer and openSUSE are not compatible.
OpenSUSE can't find Canon MP280.

I cannot find a driver for the Brother MFC-490CW printer anywhere. I tried using the CD that came with the printer itself but that doesnt have any PPD files on there... Apparently they deemed it unthinkable that a Linux user might want to use their equipment.
