Jun 3, 2011

I want to get a serial mouse (PS/2 with adapter) to work on a Dell C400 (so I can use the one USB port for wireless). I enabled the serial port in the BIOS, but the mouse didn't work.

Fedora Hardware :: Mouse Module Not Detected Without Installing Mouse With Xorg1.7.3?

Sep 27, 2010

I have custom built Linux kernel (2.6.31) and also xorg. xorg is using xserver 1.7.3 . I have an application which simulates the mouse and sends mouse move events. When I switch the device on, the system boots and Xorg comes up, I can see X cursor on the system. When I start sending mouse move events from the application, the cursor do not move. If I attach mouse to the device and then move the mouse, from this point onwards the mouse events get detected from the simulation application. I have checked the dmesg log as follows

BEFORE MOUSE CONNECTED.
.....
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3 FS on hdb4, internal journal
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with writeback data mode.

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Use A Serial Mouse

Apr 3, 2011

I'm having ongoing problems with my Ubuntu installation(s) almost to the point that each addition causes new problems. The latest, continual problem is periodically the computer is being used and abruptly hangs with a blank screen. Though I believe the error is associated with my having an undefined ServerName for LAMP development server. I've decided to do a fresh install with all the options included and see what happens. I need some assistance in developing an install CD/DVD which has all the packages (and configurations) that I need. I want to be able to use a serial mouse (the computer is an older one and I only have a serial mouse to use).

But the problem is that mdetect doesn't recognize it, and whatever protocol i select in inputattach, the cursor jumps unpredictably when i move the mouse. How can i get the parameters for this mouse - maybe baudrate, etc.? Or maybe i'm doing something totally wrong? Here's mdetect output (i moved the mouse while mdetect was working) on 300 8N1 mode (set by minicom):

Fedora Hardware :: Serial Mouse Not Working With 11?

Login as root.3. su -c 'yum install -y system-config-display'This step will take some 2 to 5 mins 4. su -c 'system-config-display --reconfig'After Fedora 9/10, the xorg.conf is not available and it uses HAL to detect the hardwares. The above steps create the config file.

General :: Palm Vx & Serial Mouse Communication ?

Apr 25, 2011

When I try to Sync a Palm Vx to my PC through serial port I get a communication error message in the gadget. My PalmOS Devices application is already configured to use tty0 or tty1 in unsuccessfully trials. I have a lot of information in the addresses, agenda, notes, etc. and do not want to loose that information gathered for years, nor to return to Windows.

As a test, I used a serial mouse in the serial port and It didn't work. I verified the Bios Setup and COM 1 and COM 2 are enabled.

I also checked my system serial support with the following commands:

And messages were OK when compared with typical outputs. My machine is a Pentium 4 CPU 1.6 GHz, in a U8668 motherboard (Award Software International). I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Gnome.

I am new in Linux and don't know Bash yet. I had followed indications from Internet tutorials successfully, but I don't know how to proceed in this case.

CentOS 5 :: Detecting And Mounting Serial Mouse/trackball?

May 7, 2009

I am attempting to use a serial trackball in CentOS 5.3 and have run out of ideas. The mouse is connected to COM2 (/dev/ttyS1). I have tried to configure it through xorg.conf using every protocol I could find including "auto" and tried the same again using "inputattach". The mouse communicates at 1200 baud, so I've tried using stty to set the port to that baud rate and still no luck. Is there a test tool that can be used to see if the serial connection is functioning? If not, are there any other ideas?

Anyways to fix this? I looked around under system and didn't see anything that would let me maybe fix this.

Debian Hardware :: PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Detected As Mouse?

Jun 23, 2011

I'm running Debian Squeeze on an HP Pavilion dv6-6040ca. The touchpad featured is relatively new, which is likely the root of my problem. The touchpad with its winblows driver features a backlight, two mouse buttons (buttons, not dedicated touchpad space), and an 'on/off' switch/zone in the top left of the touchpad. The touchpad zone works well for pointing, but no gesture support. The touchpad's tap/click feature works way too well, which is very frustrating. The touchpad is detected as a mouse, so there is no option in System->Preferences->Mouse for a touchpad. Both mouse buttons function as expected. The 'on/off' switch/zone does not function, nor does the backlight.

The only feature I really need is the ability to turn off the tap/click feature, as it makes typing a nightmare. It's gotten to the point where I wrote a shell script to toggle the loading/unloading of my psmouse module (which isn't a bad solution, but I don't want my general account having access to modprobe).

Here are some details:

/proc/bus/input/devices
cat /proc/bus/input/devices
I: Bus=0017 Vendor=0001 Product=0001 Version=0100
N: Name="Macintosh mouse button emulation"

[code]....

I'm using the proprietary ATI driver (couldn't do 3D with the open driver), and I'm using a proprietary wireless module for my RaLink wireless adapter.

Passing parameters to the psmouse module
Unloading the psmouse module
Trusting HAL entirely (no xorg)

[code]....

also the xorg input synaptics driver is installed. Now here's the fun part where the obvious things I've overlooked are quickly pointed out to me.

Debian Hardware :: How To Get Old Serial-touchscreen To Work With USB / Serial Adapter

Oct 9, 2015

I am hoping to be able to get an old serial-touchscreen to work with a usb/serial adapter. I had this touchscreen working some years ago on different hardware. I would like to hook it to the machine I am setting up as a multimedia host with mythtv among other things.

Following the instructions I left behind when I got this to work way back when does not work. See [URL] ....

This info is a work around to get the xserver to see the touchscreen. [URL] ....

I do know that the touchscreen works as I am able to get garbage on the screen as in the first part of my howto. But I have not had any success getting xorg to see it. I wish I had posted a copy of the xorg.conf at the time, but......

There is an issue with the current xserver in testing that I am hoping the next update (in unstable) will fix when it gets pushed to testing. That is that Code: Select all# X -configure fails with a segfault. So I am not able to generate the xorg.conf needed to get it to work. I was going to post a bugreport, that is when I found out there is an update in unstable, so I am waiting for it to get pushed at the moment.

Anyway I am hoping that I can link /dev/ttyUSB0 to /dev/tty0 and get it to work. I would like some kind of guess as to my chances of success before I go to all the work of getting the monitor hooked to the host.
