I am trying to get the ti_usb_3410_5052.ko driver installed but it gives a an error saying that "cannot locate the usb-serial.h file." Kindly let me know how to over come this problem. I saw in this forum about a patch but it is not working.

I click yes and it begins to search and I get the following error message. p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } The file could not be found in any packages. It will also give me this error message after I click OK All required applications and libraries are not installed. install the following manually and try again: mplex (GStreamer plugin) dvdauthor (application). I was able to locate and install dvdauthor via synaptic package manager but I was unable to find mplex there.
I am reading a book on OpenSSH and I need some help on sshd2_config . I cannot locate this file. The author claims that it should be in /etc/ssh2/. I don't see the ssh2 directory either. Is this another component that is not installed? Since the book is an implementation book, it doesn't give all the details as to what it is. It assumes you know.

I have a WNA 1100 wireless adapter. I have not been able to locate a mountable .inf file on the cd. Only a "setupt.exe" or a trans.tbl file.

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm attempting to use a microcontroller to send MIDI messages over a virtual serial port. I want to (eventually) read them with Mixxx. I'm using an FTDI chip, so I get a /dev/ttyUSB0. I've tried spikenzielabs' Serial-Midi program, but it doesn't see any serial ports. NOTEMIDI looks really old and won't compile on my 10.04 LTS machine.

I have been trying to do that through searching in "Files & Folders" but it seems that the search is not thorough: it doesn't look for everything. I have an external drive that when it's connected to the computer I would like to search inside of it as well. The "Files & Folders" option does not seem to do that at all.

Sometimes I have to access large files with thousands of lines in them and I would like to locate a particultar word. e.g.
vi /etc/passwd.
The contents of file passwd are displayed.I want to find a username of joe assuming the passwd file is 2000 lines long.
I would like to use a linux command that will locate joe and highlight in the passwd file as to where word joe is.
Is there a linux command that can do this?
A long time ago I wrote a short essay about the 'federal' 'reserve' board. I don't remember it's name or format. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get two way serial communications going between a Windows XP system and a Linux system (RHEL 5).I have /sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0
in /etc/inittab. I am using a generic USB to serial adaptor on Windows (Unitek) and a null modem cable. I have putty configured for 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, one stop bit, no flow control.I get the login prompt from agetty in the putty window but input does not work; I see weird characters in the putty screen. I can echo output into the device from windows and see it, but
cat < /dev/ttyS0. just prints out weird characters from what I type.
On my CentOS 5.2 install I've installed a dual-port serial card based on the NetMOS 9835 chipset. I've followed the serial instructions, but everything they tell me to do is already done - see setserial outputs below. I've compared these values to the lspci output (below, NetMos card is at the bottom of the output) for the card and it appears right. Problem being, I can't use the serial ports. Oh and I did use search, and looked at every 9835-related article before posting this :)

I just dl'd Thunderbird and its working fine with my Hotmail account however I'm having some problems with my Gmail account. I can send emails thru gmail just fine but when I click get mail, the error message: Unable to locate mail spool file pops up. The server settings for this account are Server Type: Unix Movemail Server Name: Local Host Username: (my gmail email - @gmail.com) I think this is all set up right, it did it automatically for me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am hoping to be able to get an old serial-touchscreen to work with a usb/serial adapter. I had this touchscreen working some years ago on different hardware. I would like to hook it to the machine I am setting up as a multimedia host with mythtv among other things.

I do know that the touchscreen works as I am able to get garbage on the screen as in the first part of my howto. But I have not had any success getting xorg to see it. I wish I had posted a copy of the xorg.conf at the time, but......
There is an issue with the current xserver in testing that I am hoping the next update (in unstable) will fix when it gets pushed to testing. That is that Code: Select all# X -configure fails with a segfault. So I am not able to generate the xorg.conf needed to get it to work. I was going to post a bugreport, that is when I found out there is an update in unstable, so I am waiting for it to get pushed at the moment.
Anyway I am hoping that I can link /dev/ttyUSB0 to /dev/tty0 and get it to work. I would like some kind of guess as to my chances of success before I go to all the work of getting the monitor hooked to the host.
I used locate cmd to search file abc.txt (for example) as I didn't know in which directory it would be present and couldn't find it. But when I did find . -name abc.txt, it traced the file, luckily the file was in the same directory. I am wondering how find was able to search abc.txt and locate not. How these two are behavinb differently? Usually I use locate when I don't know the path to the parent dir.

I am attempting to install MS Windows 7 as a guest in VirtualBox inside Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10. on a ZaReason Strata 3660 with 4GB of RAM and adequate memory. The machine is correctly partitioned for this event. I am using the Ubuntu Walk Through as a guide: [URl].. All was going fine until VirtualBox asked for the .iso image from the MS cd 'UDF Volume'. There appears to be no .iso file in the UDF Volume.

I'm new to bash scripting and I've searched around the forums and Internet for this but haven't had any luck. I've found similar things but not what I need. What I need to do is write a simple script that uses what the user inputs to locate and display where a file is. I would prefer to use locate instead of find since I know that the person I am writing this for has locate on her machine (my mom, who is just beginning with Linux).I'm writing the script to make things easier for her while she learns In this particular part of the script I would like to be able to have the script prompt to enter the file she is searching for, read the her input and then display for her where the file is. I realize it would in most cases be much simpler just to teach her how to use locate, but she is very impatient and this is just a part of the script I will be writing, but I can't figure out how to do this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have several directories of subtitles for some videos, but all the text for the subtitles in each file is in uppercase, and I would like to convert the files' content to lowercase, all in one go. I found on a website a bash command that would do each file separately:tr '[:upper:]' '[:lower:]' <input.txt> output.txt but of course involves specifying the input name and output name for each file.I have been trying to do it in a script that would work for all files in the current directory, without having to rename them each time, if that's possible. So far I've got the following, which doesn't work:

However, my web searches cannot locate a way of specifying "each file in current directory" in conjunction with the "tr" command, but also without having to rename the file once converted to lowercase. Is it possible, or would the tr command have to create a new file for each converted file?

Invariably the commands do nothing except to report bad or missing superblocks. I've removed the physical disk from the machine and am working with a dd image file (/mnt/image). I can mount what used to be hdc1 and read its files with no problem. I'm trying to recover partions hdc6 and hdc7.$ mmls /mnt/image -b

I am on Ubuntu 11.04 and using Libre Office 3.3.2 to compose new documents and am saving them using .doc, .ppt and .xls files. (due to having to share them with others who are on Windows systems)
I have a lot of doc files and I need to search for text INSIDE these files. I am perplexed with the fact that no search tool is able to search for text INSIDE these file types. "cat" can display them of course, but grep is not able to locate text INSIDE these file types. I even tried to save a .doc file as an .odt file, but no luck. The Applications>Accessories>Search for Files does not search INSIDE doc, xls or ppt with the option "Contains the text".
I have changed the preference in the Nautilus file manager/browser to "Single click to activate items" and it works.
However, when I run an application, say Totem Movie Player, and select Movie/Open I am presented with a Nautilus like file navigation dialog. This is a common dialog to most Gnome applications - probably part of Gnome. Problem is, the dialog does not respect my "single click..." preference.
I have tested this in Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 alpha 2 and CentOS 5.4 - I do not think it is distribution related.
