Ubuntu Security :: Keyring Password - Why And How To Stop Being Asked For It?

Sep 28, 2010

When I installed Ubuntu (Lucid) on my new computer, As well as the login password I was asked for a keyring password. I gave one, but I am not sure exactly why I need this password. It seems that it was required to let me access the wifi - even though this has its own security code. I found I could stop the system asking for it every time I tried to connect to the internet using wifi by checking a button in the network setup, but when I registered for Ubuntu One, I was again asked for it - twice, once when I registered and again when I set up Tomboy notes sync. Now I get asked for it again every time I switch on.

I would like to know why the keyring passwords are needed in addition to the login password for a single user computer, which mine is and also how I can stop it asking for this password when I switch the computer on. One suggestion I have seen is to make the keyring password the same as my login password. If that is the case, then how do I change the keyring password?

Ubuntu :: Get The Regular KDE Keyring Password Request ?

I switched to Kubuntu with the upgrade to Lucid. After a couple updates, I started getting a "Gnome looking" unlock screen on my desktop at start-up. Can I uninstall this or will that cause problems?

Server :: Encryption Of Password Request In Squid?

Feb 2, 2010

When I user wants to navigate through the internet, he must first give his username and password. The password is sent in clear text. I would like to encrypt this using SSL (or an other solution already integrated in Squid). Is this possible in Squid?I read that "user_cert" option can do this, but I couldn't configure it.I have: acl myacl user_cert src 192.168.1.5Which gives: "aclParseAclLine: Invalid ACL type 'user_cert'"The other solution is probably tunneling, but I don't want to install special software on the client machines

Server :: Samba Shares - No Password Request For Access

Feb 23, 2010

I recently switched from centos to fedora as my server choice. Probably not the best decision but I like trying new things. Now before I switched I had my samba server setup just they way I wanted it. Now I'm having a hard time getting it back to that way. Here is my smb.conf

Code:
[global]
workgroup = workgroup
netbios name = netbios name
server string = Linux Server
security = user
wins support = yes
encrypt passwords = Yes
domain logons = yes
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
browseable = yes
writable = yes
valid users = %S

[me]
path = /home/me
read only = no
public = yes
create mask = 0777
directory mask = 0777
browseable = yes
writable = yes

Now I did throw away my old smb.conf because it wasn't that complicated and I figured I could reproduce it.. aside from that everything is working except for the fact that I can access any share I want to listed without it requesting a password. I have a username and password setup with smbpasswd and I think everything else is setup correctly involving samba shares but I have no idea why it won't request a password.

Ubuntu Security :: Ettercap Can See Http Request But Not Response

ettercap can see http request but not response

I'm trying to see regular http responses from my wireless ipad (victim) from my wired pc (attacker). Everything's working great but I can only see the http requests not the responses.

I've done much reading and googling and tried registering in more relevant forums but some forums were shutdown, so I've come here.

Code:
# setup ip forwarding
echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
# use ettercap to do the mitm using only mitm
sudo ettercap --iface eth0 --text --plugin autoadd --only-mitm --mitm arp:remote /192.168.0.1/ /192.168.0.155/

OpenSUSE Install :: Module Apache2::Request To OS - Error "No Targets Specified And No Makefile Found - Stop"

Jun 19, 2010

I'm using openSUSE 11.1, KDE I'm trying to install the module Apache2::Request to my OS. After the gzip -dc libapreq2-2.12.tar.gz | tar -xof - I typed in Shell these (as shown in INSTALLATION document of module): perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs Then something goes wrong, make doesn't work saying: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop..

I think the problem is in the command perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs in section .../path/to/apache2/bin/apxs . What does mean ./path/to/apache2/bin/apxs? Maybe I should write the path to apache2 which contains a file named apxs? I did not find such file apxs. My apache2 path is /etc/apache2, but there is no file named apxs... Result for perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs:

I know this has probably been asked too many times here but I need to secure my emails. Personal matters of course. But yeah. I use the program "Password and Encryption Keys" to generate a key to sign my emails with but I do not know what to do. To be blunt, I'm stupid when it comes to this. IF not, steps in creating a key? and giving it (my public key) to the significant other? Finding where both keys are? Implementing it into Thunderbird? If it helps any here's some extra information: Ubuntu distro: Ubuntu 10.04 Email client: Thunderbird

Ubuntu :: Evolution Not Prompting For Password (keyring)

May 1, 2010

I have installed Ubuntu three times now, and I'm running into same problem all the time, both with Karmic Koala (9.10) and now also Lucid Lynx (10.04):

When I configure Evolution for IMAP access to my GMAIL account, it never prompts me for a password. Instead, I guess Evolution tries to connect without any password and fails every time. Switching to Thunderbird didn't do the trick either, so I think it might have something to do with the Keyring daemon. My Internet connection is fine, as I can access my account under other operating systems.

Things I've tried so far:

"Forget passwords" in the evolution menu
Forcing shutdown of evolution and deleting the ~/.evolution folder (as suggested by https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221112)
Accessing the keyring and deleting the default keyring

[code]....
