My computer is recently asking for my 'default keyring password'to get access to the internet. It never used to do this as I am single user and never created a keyring password as far as I know. I dont even use a login password.Luckily i tried my administrator password and that unlocks my keyring but I would like to get it back to no password or auto unlock mode.
View 2 RepliesI switched to Kubuntu with the upgrade to Lucid. After a couple updates, I started getting a "Gnome looking" unlock screen on my desktop at start-up. I get the regular KDE keyring password request and a second that looks like the Gnome keyring. I don't know how this happened. I checked in Synaptic and found the gnome-keyring was installed. Can I uninstall this or will that cause problems?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just re-sized my windows partition on my laptop and installed 10.04.1. Brand new clean install. I set up my user account, gave it a password, and everything was fine until I tried to connect to my wireless. I typed in the security key for my wireless, and it asked for a password to unlock the default keyring. The problem is, I never set a password for the "default" keyring. I never changed my user password. I didn't auto-login, I entered my password. This was the first boot up of the machine after installing 10.04.1. I can't use Empathy, because the keyring cannot be unlocked. If I "cancel" it gives me an error saying the account details are wrong, but I log into my facebook, aim, and msn every day, so I know the passwords are correct.
I have read about other issues with the keyring and with the auto-login bug that is associated with it. I have also read up on the bug that occurs with that as well. I couldn't find anything about my specific situation, so I hope this isn't a re-post of an issue that has already dealt with, but I did look it up. If it helps, the laptop I am running is a HP Pavilion dv7-3065dx, and I have Ubuntu Desktop 10.04.1 x86 installed. Clean install and the only thing I have done was log in, connect to network, and try to set up Empathy. Both Empathy, and connecting to network, gave me the issues with the keyring. It appears that there is already a password for the default keyring, it is not blank, and my user login password does not work for it. I'm at a loss...
Whenever I restart my computer, it asks me to retype the keyring password for Network Manager. Is there a way to get rid of this or set it permanently?

Longer story:
Somehow I got my keyring and login passwords out of sync. I went to change my login password using passwd on the terminal. I meant to change it to (let's say) "abcdef" but typed "abcdfe" twice. Realizing my mistake I tried to used passwd a second time to change it to "abcdef", but passwd complained that the new password was too similar to the old. So I used "su -c 'passwd myusername'" - I was able to change my login password but I guess this did not update my keyring password. I've tried changing my password using passwd as myself (not root) to something completelydifferent, but my keyring password remains the first password (e.g. "abcdfe").
I installed opensuse yesterday, but I don't remember the keyring password, and even if I know the WEP key by heart, it's boring to retype it. How can I reset the default password? I tried Keyring menu, dell all keyrings and created a new call "default", but it stills asking me the password, that is different that the new.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe only problem I am experiencing is that when I boot Ubuntu quickly finds my wireless network but does not automatically connect to it. A window then comes up asking me to "enter password for Keyring default". After having then entered this password the connection does take place and remain stable. So really no big deal but why do I need to do this every time I boot up. This is new to me. Never had anything like this on previous versions.

Now, I don't recall ever setting one up, each password I try (e.g. the user or root) fails and gives me the prompt again. After a few clicks of "deny" it does go away but I want to know what it is and if I can stop it from prompting me).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just did a fresh install of 10.10 and whenever I log on it request the password for default keyring (the same as sign in password) in previous versions of ubuntu it never asked and automatically started the wireless; now it asks and tells me the password is incorrect. I can hit cancel a numerous amount of times and it will eventually allow me to connect, but that doesn't seem like a good fix in my opinion. This also happened when I tried out lubuntu 10.04 which I promptly removed due to the menu style.

I set up Evolution, and it's working, but sometimes Gnome wants me to allow it to access the default keyring to get the email password. It takes 3 cancel-deny tries to finally dismiss this dialog box, after which Evolution is working fine. I see that this is not an Evolution thing. Other users report the same thing in VINO, and on wireless access. The GNOME forum seems to think there is a bug when accessing severs, and has a bug and milestone. Some other distros have the same problem.
One user says that they were able to Delete the default keyring (which must have had an unknown default password) and then create a New default keyring with thier own password. This seems to have solved that user's problem. However there were no instructions on how to do it. I think someone else was able to just stop the default keyring daemon. That would work too, although it's not as elegant. I'm now unable to find instructions.
I recently switched from centos to fedora as my server choice. Probably not the best decision but I like trying new things. Now before I switched I had my samba server setup just they way I wanted it. Now I'm having a hard time getting it back to that way. Here is my smb.conf

Now I did throw away my old smb.conf because it wasn't that complicated and I figured I could reproduce it.. aside from that everything is working except for the fact that I can access any share I want to listed without it requesting a password. I have a username and password setup with smbpasswd and I think everything else is setup correctly involving samba shares but I have no idea why it won't request a password.
I am sometimes getting the following msg, asking me for a password... enter password for default keyring to unlock, the application 'Account Manager' (/usr/libexec/mission-control-5) wants access to default keyring, but it is locked. I have never seen this before and I have no idea what the password would be (since I've never set a "keyring" password).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a bit puzzled by new "keyring everywhere" feature, well the case: Now I'm using 11.3 brand new suse and just when I want to connect to INTERNET via my DSL connection, a keyring password window appears, well I fill in the keyring password and hit enter, then another window pops out with my DSL connection asking me to enter a password for my DSL connection (but I've already set it up it before) and ok, I enter my password hit enter, but DSL window pops out again! and nothing happens,
I do it several times like a puppet, then I delete my DSL connection and make it again, so everything works with passwords no(no keyring is being promted). SO what do I do wrong? How can I disable this keyring feature, I do not need it at all, why do I need to recreate my connection every single time?

I can't remotely access my desktop when the desktop is asking for a keyring password. Why does this happen? it means that remote access is useless because you would need to enter the password locally before you can vnc to it. I do not wish to disable the default keyring but is there a way of making vnc work so I can enter the password.

In a memory lapse, I entered the root password instead of the current user password. Now I have this login and password messy dance to go through very often. On accounts where I have not made this mistake, it seems that the keyring gets is details from the current login session and I don't get frequent nagging for keyring access credentials.
